Sadly I ended up ruining this for myself today by not properly cleaning out either my travel mug or tea pot (or both). As a result this clearly got mixed up with either the Peppermint Amour or Honey Bee from yesterday (it was hard to tell which). Needless to say this was not a good mix. It was kind of grassy and acidic. I’ll be more careful about this in the future.

This reminds me of something gross I did the other day. I made tea using hot water from my coffee maker, only I did so without removing the used coffee filter first. That was a nasty surprise.

Peppermint for me has a time and a place—Christmas and usually covered in chocolate. That being said, tonight I wanted something new but knew I really should stick to herbals or sacrifice any idea of sleep; that left me with this. I almost wish the peppermint was stronger in this. It’s heavy after the sip, but while the tea is in my mouth it’s much more toned down. In general it’s like chewing on a mint leaf rather than the icy intensity I normally associate with peppermint. I am enjoying the fresh aftertaste of this though. Having no other experience with peppermint tea, I’ll say this is good for what it is. I guess peppermint tea just isn’t my thing.

drank Honey Bee by DAVIDsTEA

I was really unimpressed by this. It reminded me of a sweet vinegar (like balsamic) in both taste and smell and I just could not get over that. Beneath that maybe a touch of honey that seemed to disappear as I worked my way through the cup. There’s no way I would buy this again and making it through another cup isn’t something I’m looking forward to. It was not undrinkable, but I the entire time I was drinking it I was thinking “is it over yet?”.

Sounds like one for me to avoid.

Yeah, considering how sensitive you’ve said you are towards sour I would stay far away from it.

drank Orangery of Lady Grey by Twinings

Oh wow, here’s a black tea I could drink every day. I bought this as a gift for a friend in London but didn’t buy any myself as bergamot has never really been my thing; I went over to their place this evening, tried a cup, and fell in love. This is wonderfully light. Very heavy on the citrus—I noticed the lemon peel first, then the orange. The bergamot and black tea in this are more in the background, but still nicely present. I just realized the dry leaf does kind of smell like Froot Loops though. I think this would be wonderful hot or iced. If I get the chance I will certainly pick up some of this.

drank Tazo® Chai Tea Latte by Starbucks

Had this yesterday after work with a pump of mocha syrup. While no drink at Starbucks really has me hooked, I’ll go for this from time to time. Definitely enjoyed it and would have again.

drank Ginger Lemon Green Tea by Kusmi Tea

Another that’s been sitting in the cupboard for two and a half years so I’d be interested to try some fresh.

Overall I found this kind of bitter. In the future I would try steeping it considerably less. Ginger and lemon notes were present, but I would have like a little bit more to shine through. Drinking this makes me go “well that’s an okay green tea” as opposed to “yum…lemon and ginger!” which is what I was hoping for. Wouldn’t be a repurchase based on this cup alone.

Update: I just made another cup of this steeping it for 2.5 minutes and the bitterness was much better.

drank Imperial Label by Kusmi Tea

I ended up buying this as part of a set of five Kusmi green teas about two and a half years ago before I knew anything about tea as a gift for my boyfriend. He got through about half the tin and it’s been sitting at the back of the cupboard ever since.

I ended up uprooting the set during a tea purge this afternoon and though “hey, this might be nice to try”. No idea what the flavour was like when fresh but this was pretty heavy on the citrus and cinnamon (which I mistook for ginger). I get a slight hint of licorice towards the end of the sip at the back of the tongue and down the throat. I usually avoid licorice teas out of personal dislike for the taste, but don’t usually mind it if it’s there.

I wouldn’t buy this again, mostly because of the licorice, but I’m happy I gave it a chance.

I still have a tin of this sitting around I got a few years ago. I don’t like it either but it makes me feel better if I have a cold.

I had a sore throat about a month ago; this would have been perfect.

Well had this iced this afternoon which got me in the mood for having it hot this evening. Basically melted down peach gummies—very sweet. Little bit of tartness as well. Good both ways, but better iced.

So much for rich wintery teas, but I haven’t had this one for a while.

This was the first tea I actually enjoyed. Probably because it’s closer to peach juice (at not very natural peach juice at that) than tea. I friend bought it for me in the summer and I made a few cups of it iced one day—YUMMY! As I’ve discovered more of DAVID’s Tea I’ve had this one less, but I still like it. The bf really enjoys it iced as well, though he’s usually more of a straight tea drinker.

drank Chocolate Chili Chai by DAVIDsTEA
326 tasting notes

Well with the first day of spring less than a week away and a fresh 30cm of snow outside it seems time to ditch the spring collection and settle back into a warm chocolate chili chai latte.

Having this one as a latte really tones down what chili there is, but there’s still a slight note of it in there, becoming stronger as it cools. Most prominent, however, is the chocolate. I don’t really taste the black tea in this too much.

All in all this goes excellent with a breakfast of chocolate cake as I watch the neighbors try to dig out their barely visible cars. I’ve still got the majority of my 100g of this from Christmas and if the weather keeps up I might finally be able to make a fair dent in it.
