1598 Tasting Notes
Total impulse buy. /0\
I went to Granville Island because I hadn’t been there for years and then I thought this would make for a nice souvenir tea to drink when I’m in Ontario and so I scooped it up. The prices for 50g are really reasonable!
(Don’t buy teas based on souvenir value. That’s tea purchasing rule #17.)
So… this tea? Well there’s definitely darjeeling in there – I can tell because it’s bitterish. There’s also some fruity notes too which help to make it more enjoyable. And it is enjoyable, although not necessarily memorable. We’ll see if it grows on me.
Preparation
Mmmmm, yes. I rather like this one. It’s a nice solid green and it almost seems like it’s creamy and coconutty, but it’s actually the caramel and seseame seeds. Oh, I’m bad at this when I don’t cheat and read the desciptions. It’s totally toasty with the seeds, which is probably where I got coconut from. And it’s deliately sweet too, which is how I like my greens.
This might be one I’d want to re-order. I’ll have to narrow it down between Bangkok and this as I might not be able to drink 8 oz of green teas, but can commit to 4…
Preparation
I love Bangkok! When I was in NYC I went to H&S and Tokyo and Bangkok were the two I needed to pick up haha!
Ok, now I’m curious about this one. I’ll have to snag a sample pack (if they have them) with the next order I do.
If I can’t get the steeping parameters right, I might give you my tin when you come to Toronto. I have yet to make this work.
Goodbye Chocolate Monkey tea! I wish you were more chocolate, but whaddaya do.
Speaking of monkeys, our little monkey must have gotten cold and woken up, and by the time I woke up and noticed she was too awake to go back to sleep. So, basically I woke up at 3:30, tried to feed/cuddle her and get her back to sleep for more than the next hour, and now at 5:30 I’m drinking tea because that’s much better than throwing pillows in frustration. The little monkey is happily chasing the cat and doesn’t seem to care that she’s had less than 5 hours of sleep.
Good thing I’m off work, I guess! She hasn’t done this in the last 3 months (she’s pretty good normally!) so I haven’t had to deal with going to work on 4 hours sleep. :P
Okay – enough ranting. I do like this tea, and will probably pick some up once I have tea money and there’s a new Tealux sale.
ETA: Sipdown puts me at 111 teas, 43 of which are sample sized!
Also, ETA: The baby is starting to lie down face-down on the floor. I think that’s a good sign she’s ready for bed! \0/ I just finished my cup too, so good timing!
hahaha
grats on getting so close to 100…maybe i can hit 200 this weekend before packages start arriving lol
Hahaha.
Well I just checked the “what did I get in the mail” thread, and it shouldn’t be too bad? Lots of samples, so – quick sipdowns, and then the teaspot stuff is big, but only 5 more teas if you just look at the total and not the weight? #justifications
You’ve got until Monday to drink down enough that that Butiki order replaces it – then there’s no change there. And you can probably drink the stuff from your swap during the weekend? :P Maybe? Go! Go! Go!
Yes! Sometime in the next few days I’m going to get all my tea out and take a picture (as well as portion out the take it away ones!)
I’m not sure if it’s because it’s older, or I’ve just had more experience with green teas, but this is so boring. Boring. :(
ETA: Oh, I remembered to lower the rating. :P
First sip: malt. Second? Chocolate?
I’m getting honey too, but I think I taste honey in a lot of teas. :P
I love how each sip starts off strong, but mellows out near the end. This is really tasty, and dark and earthy too, but not like a puerh either. It’s hard to say which I like more – this or the Laoshan Black.
Yay! Tasting notes are back up! This is my light afternoon tea and it’s just awesome. I probably should have iced it, but it’s really good hot too.
I’m packing up boxes and watching Series 1 of Doctor Who. Wow. Some of it is pretty awful. Nine is so angry!
haha but rose! she teaches him to let go of his anger! and then IT JUST GETS BETTER AND BETTER! OMG!
Nope. This isn’t for me. I tied it hot, cold, and as a tea pop and I just couldn’t get it to taste that good.
Sorry.
i can’t rememebr (and steepster won’t let me check) if kittenna and i bought a bag of this one to share.
So I haven’t posted in a few days or checked the logs, but I’m ok you guys. I’m okay.
Things are crazy getting ready for the move to Toronto. Friday was my last day of work. The weekend was spent moving a good friend/my roommate into her own apartment, and yesterday was a quick trip to the island to visit family. So much traveling!
I’ll catch up when I can.
But on to this tea. It’s so sweet and smooth. I’m really happy I split a tin of this. I couldn’t quite identify the fruit flavours, but then I read the description (i.e. cheated), and I can totally seperate the apricot, plum and cherry flavours in my head. This is delicious. And as I said before, super sweet.
I think there was real dried fruit in there – there’s a bit of sediment left in my cup which is unappetizing but doesn’t change how good the cup is if I don’t look at the tea. :|
Preparation
I really like this one! I have a couple cherries in my half, but I’m saving them for a day off when I have time to sit and enjoy the tea and then eat the fruits. :)
You might need to get some souvenir tea from Murchie’s. :)
Haha. If we meet up there maybe I’ll try some, but I’ve been pretty ambivalent about most of their teas. Although I do like the Prince Charles blend – maybe because that was one of the first loose-leaf teas I have ever had. It was a gift!
A friend gave me 6 as a gift and they’re all pretty good. :)
Glad you’re enjoying them! I just found I didn’t care for most of them and that was with trying to under-steep it etc. I do have their Russian Caravan and will enjoy that, but I have too much. Gonna add some to my freebie list for the meet-up. :P
