Y is not for…Marzipan Yum

This was leftover from my extra cups of yesterday. Drinking it today and while its definitely a more tolerable marzipan tea, it’s not a favorite and I don’t think I need more of this one.

X is for…an eXtra cup of Summer Berry Pudding

I tried some of my brother-in-law’s beer and it tasted almost like teriyaki sauce. Thankfully I had a cold brew ready to go to wash it down with. This is strong into the hibiscus berry flavour and a touch herbal. I am okay saying goodbye to this one because it was never a favourite. That said, it’s better than the teriyaki beer so yay for that.

I am sad to see this go. I had it a number of times but for some reason the sample from Roswell Strange was just better. Smooth. Delicious. Caramel and lemon and it just screams lemon dessert and baked goods and I just enjoyed it so much. Sad sipdown but thank you for sharing, Roswell Strange!

X is for…an eXtra cup of Lemon Mango Sherbet Green Rooibos

I tossed the last of the leaf into a disposable tea bag and just let that tea bag hang out in the cup.

It’s got a lot of lemon flavor today. Lemon and green rooibos. I definitely got mango in the past but today I am not. Perhaps it is the steeping method or just because of what was left in the package. It’s fine but this isn’t a tea I will think much about now that its gone.

That is the way I always make my herbals… stuff in a teabag, leave soakin’ while drinkin’

X is for…an eXtra cup of Uncle Iroh

I had this the other day while in panic mode studying for my exam. I am now studying for my last Law School exam (hopefully, assuming I pass) but it is not as rushed as the last one was and I am feeling much calmer so I have the time to actually write a proper note.

This tea is named for an Avatar: The Last Airbender character. I am not actually familiar with Avatar at all so I can’t speak to whether this is true to its namesake or not. However, I can say its better than I thought it would be. It’s a jasmine green tea and I am not a huge fan of florals or green teas usually but this one is actually really nice. It’s smooth and fruity. A nice lychee flavor. This is the type of flavor profile I think my Hot Cups White & Green Lychee tea from yesterday wished it had. It also has a depth to it that makes it richer/less light than a green tea typically is. If I didn’t know better, I might have actually thought it was on a black tea base.

X is for…an eXtra cup of Blueberries and Cream Rooibos

I was talking to Roswell Strange and mentioned I had no “X” teas. I didn’t even have a tea by an X company. I said I could skip X and just do “Y” teas, or I could do number teas since X usually stands in for unknown numbers and this could be a fun play on that. I also said I could just do random teas. That’s when Roswell Strange said I could do X as an extra cup of teas I had throughout the alphabet tea drinking but didn’t quite finish. Since I actually have a number of teas that I enjoyed throughout this sipdown challenge with only a serving remaining, I thought that could be fun.

This particular tea I actually didn’t realize was at its end. I pulled it out just to have before bed and realized as I was weighing out the leaf that I only had the one serving. So I guess I am starting my “X” day with the last cup of this.

I went back to my previously note for this tea where I mentioned that I had it sort of hot because its the tea I made for my at-home laser hair removal day. Here I am doing that again and this has once again cooled.

This tea does have a lot of blueberry flavor. That blueberry flavor is pretty true to the fruit. Though today its a lot of blueberry and rooibos. The cream is lingering in the background as a nice smoothness but it’s mostly a blueberry rooibos. Thank you Sil for the chance to try this one!

W is for…White & Green Tea Lychee

This has a nice lychee sweetness to it but the underlying base teas can be a bit drying. Combined with the lychee, that makes this come off floral. It’s a nice enough cup but I don’t need this again.

W is for…Winter in Arendelle

Had this as a latte while on a WhatsApp video call with friends. It’s a classic vanilla mint profile, like Santa’s Secret from DAVIDsTEA, and so cute with the little snowflake sprinkles. It’s a little heavier on the mint than Santa’s Secret and also not as accessible for me in Canada so I will probably stick to the DAVIDsTEA version. That said, this was fun given the sprinkles and the name and I enjoyed it.

W is for…Warm Berry Muffin

Made this overnight then made carrot muffins to go with it. Ate the muffins, forgot to drink the tea. I’m drinking it now. It’s pretty rooibos forward this way with a berry aftertaste. It’s not a favourite and I definitely prefer the DAVIDsTEA blueberry muffin tea to this.

Yum, carrot muffins sound amazing!

VariaTEA

They are “healthy” which means no sugar added but they had applesauce and honey ang got topped with greek yogurt and honey. They were very good and looked cute.

I love applesauce in muffins! Maybe I’ll bake some muffins this weekend…

W is for…White Anastasia

Thank you Roswell Strange for this share! I wasn’t sure I would enjoy this but seeing it went further than one round in your sipdown tournament had me intrigued. However, it’s not my favorite. I like the addition as the lime as that brightens everything up but the combo of strong citrus and the white base is reading pithy to me. Fun to try though!

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
