Cold brew. This is nice and fruity but I think it may be better hot.

We have a joke in the house that I am simultaneously the smartest and dumbest person living here. That could explain why I did something really stupid and picked up my light box, fully forgetting that the mug of this tea was still inside. I remembered quickly enough that I didn’t lose too much of the tea nor make too much of a mess but it was a dumb plan.

As for this tea, it’s a cloudy pink color and that’s cute. I don’t love it tastewise though. It’s got lots of marshmallows which in this much sort of just make everything sweet with a slight berry tinge. It’s thick and sweet but doesn’t have much else going on. I want to like it but this isn’t for me.

I cold brewed this one again and its growing on me. I was unsure of the hibiscus in a creamsicle tea but today the flavors are really working. The creamsicle flavor is front and centre and sweet but the tartness of the hibby comes through at the end and plays off the citrus notes. It’s saying Summer! While I am enjoying it, I am also cold today and so I think I want something channeling more heat.

Blooming Tea Sipdown (208)

I submitted my last law school exam today!! Provided I pass everything, that means I am now a graduate…again. Yay!! It’s a weird feeling because if Covid was not a thing, I would have been walking out of the exam next to a friend and being all excited about being finished. We probably would have gone for a drink or lunch or something to celebrate after chatting with all the other people who just submitted their last exam. Instead I pressed “Submit” exam while sitting in my bed. Something just less anti-climatic about that and I think it hasn’t fully hit yet but I know today is an exciting day!

My sister surprised me with a light box for my tea pictures. I keep complaining to her that all her surfaces look the same so all my tea pictures look the same. I told her she should change her countertop to accommodate but I guess she decided instead to get the lightbox. I was having a lot of fun messing around with it. https://www.instagram.com/p/COLtmlpgfSu/

I decided to do a time lapse with my bloom tea except the bloom decided to not work with me. It refused to sink and bloom well. That said, the light box still made it fun. Also, I realized after I did the photo that this is the last tea in my stash from The Tea Haus. So on the same day I finish school, I am finishing the last tea I bought in the same city as my school. Seemed like a fun fact.

Tastewise, its fine. It is sort of floral. Sort of sweet. Sort of nothing interesting at all. That’s usually the case with these blooms though so I’m not too upset. At least its not bitter.

Congratulations!!

Leafhopper

Congratulations on finishing your exams!

Lexie Aleah

Congrats! I bet it feels good to be done.

VariaTEA

Thank you everyone! And I don’t think it hit yet

Martin Bednář

Congratulations! I can feel you it’s a bit weird feeling to just “submit” and hope. Or even being sure that you have passed. I had one exam like that. I just submited my work and I got results right after.

I was like “Okay, I made it. Cool. But okay, now let’s do something else.”

Congrats on this colossal achievement! Well done!

Latte Sipdown (209)

Z is for…Zesty Earl Grey

This has kept me company as I study for my last law school exam ever! (Hopefully, I guess I could fail one and need to rewrite but I don’t think that will be the case)

As far as EGs go, it was not as bold and brisk as I expected which made for an alright latte. Still a plain EG latte so not a tea I need more of but better than expected. Thank you Roswell Strange for sharing!

I was drinking this and it dawned on me that this tastes an awful lot like a cinnamon roll. I like cinnamon rolls so I was happy drinking this one and made at myself for tossing the leaf because I think I would have resteeped this a few times.

You made it to Z! Good job. :D

VariaTEA

Thank you. I don’t know what to do with the remaining few days of the month now lol

tea-sipper

haha. I’m planning on trying to find more teas for the letters that weren’t TRULY sipdowns. I think I’m breaking my own rules a bit too much.

Z is not for…Berry Pink Rose

And this tea is not for me. It is going into my swap box because it just tastes look much like potpourri. I tried different ways and I just can’t seem to get it to work.

Another black tea that’s alright but nothing special. Stone fruit, malt and honey.

Y is for…Yu Lu Yan Cha

Thank you Sil!! Turns out I have 3 “Y” teas. All are straight black teas. 2 were gifted to me from Sil and this is one of those two.

I keep forgetting about this tea and tea note. I feel that’s not the best sign for this tea. It’s good. Got a lot of cinnamon notes. Honey as well. It’s just not capturing my attention much apparently. If I were someone who drank a cup of black tea daily to get a caffeine fix in, this would be alright for that because its got just enough flavor to be delightful without being something you would get bored with. However, I drink tea for the flavor and this just isn’t standing out. Still fun to try though so thank you again Sil!

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
