Cold Brew Sipdown (222)

V is not for…Peach Mint Julep

I tried this cold brewed the other day and it was really nice. So I cold brewed the last of it again today. The peach is smooth and light and provides the base. Mint makes up most of the sip but there is also a very smooth cocktail quality that comes in mid sip and sort of takes over and lingers in the aftertaste. It’s really quite lovely as a cold brew.

V is for…Vanilla Horchata…except I am pretty sure my sample is actually of Pineapple Upside Down Cake

The sample had black tea instead of rooibos, which was my first sign. Then I opened the package and smelled pineapple. And saw pineapple. And I double checked with Roswell Strange who said her sample of Vanilla Horchata definitely looked more like the website’s photo. So I think it is safe to say that this is not vanilla horchata. I guess I have had a lot of vanilla teas today though so pineapple is a welcome change.

V is for…Vanilla Chai

I am with Sil on this one that there is just too much anise for my tastes. I am still grateful for the chance to try it so thank you Sil for sharing!! In fairness, I had 4 of this company’s vanilla teas today and this is my first miss so all in all pretty successful!

Cold Brew Sipdown (225)

V is not for…Tie-Dye Butterfly

The tournament really helped me get through a lot of this tea. Then having the cold brew the other day reminded me how much I enjoy it that way. With just one serving left though, I decided to just go for the sipdown. Not much new to say about this one other than this cup was super blackberry leaf heavy and thus way too sweet. I know that’s just due to the mix of what made it into the cold brew though so oh well…

V is for…Vanilla Coconut

Sil, I am the others that finds this delightful. You were not a fan of the coconut but personally I am really enjoying it so thank you for the share!

It’s reminding me of sweetened coconut desserts. My sister used to make hello dollies with shredded coconut, chocolate chips, and condensed milk. This is tasting like the shredded coconut mixed with the condensed milk and I am a fan.

V is for…Vanilla Orchid Oolong

Another from Sil. Thank you!!

This is so similar to the DAVIDsTEA tea of the same name. Are they the same tea? They are super similar which means this is awesome vanilla pudding deliciousness. So if the DAVIDsTEA one is unavailable, this is great alternative.

V is for…Vanilla Bean

A lot of the “V” teas are vanilla teas by The Tea Girl that Sil was super kind to share with me. Thank you, Sil!! So I figured if I was going to try a number of vanilla teas by the same company, I should start with just the straight vanilla and go from there.

I was taking my pictures of the steeped tea and it smelled so good. That had me all sorts of excited for the cup. That and the fact that Sil enjoys the vanilla from this company and she has tried a lot of vanilla before and tends to enjoy the ones I enjoy.

Drinking it now, I am so happy it delivers a great vanilla taste. This vanilla is somehow both creamy and floral. It also has a pretty full black tea base that is present but doesn’t interfere with the vanilla at all. So far, so good.

drank Vive le Thé! by Palais des Thés

V is for…Vive le Thé!

This is the only non-vanilla “V” tea I have. I am not complaining about that but made this one a priority to throw into the mix today.

I also wrote my exam this morning. The day started with the exam but before that I recall my first of many alarms waking me and me turning it off and being confused as to why I was being woken by my phone. Thank goodness for my million alarms because my sleepy brain completely forgot that I had an exam at that first alarm. However, I figured it out and despite only the one day of studying, I actually think the exam went pretty well. Either that or I was so underprepared I didn’t even know what I was missing. Hoping is the former. I think its the former.

As for the tea, its alright. It says it has “delicate” flavoring and in this case I feel that delicate is a little code for bland. It’s supposed to be citrus and ginger and I guess I taste both but its very light flavoring. That said, I am glad I don’t get a lot of base tea either which means no grass, vegetal, bitterness, nothing. Just some citrus and ginger – very, very light citrus and ginger.

U is for…Unicorn Fluff

I guess technically I am late with this one since it is 2 am and thus my day of “U” teas is done. That said, it sat next to me the whole day while I studied and now that I am turning in, I gulped it down…so that counts, right? I forget the ginger in this and its a welcome ingredient for me.

U is for…Unitea

I was going to write this off because of the darjeeling but then the smell of the dry leaf was nice. Drinking it, there is a bit of the astringency that comes from a floral/drying darjeeling at the end of the sip but the body of it is pretty nice. Again, I will write a proper note at a later time when life is less hectic.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
