White Anastasia

This tastes quite floral, though it’s hard to tell what kind. I think I notice a little peach. I guess the other flavor is bergamot, though it’s hard to pick it out when it’s not paired with black tea. It’s a little too strong on a white base vs a black base.

Thank you Roswell Strange for this share! I wasn’t sure I would enjoy this but seeing it went further than one round in your sipdown tournament had me intrigued. However, it’s not my favorite. I like the addition as the lime as that brightens everything up but the combo of strong citrus and the white base is reading pithy to me. Fun to try though!

Kusmi Advent Day 11

Just had this as I received it as a sample with my advent order. Still not a fan. Wishing I was tasting the orange blossom that is included in the ingredient list, instead it’s still lemon and bergamot.

Light, citrusy, bergamoty. I like it, but the more frequently I sip the more the citrus builds up and becomes a little bitter. This is one I should drink more slowly!

Flavored white tea seems to be kinda rare. There are a couple of AQ2T blends that were based on white that I really liked. I’m thinking of exploring that category some more. Any favorites?

Well… it is different. Unusual. Interesting. Not your everyday white tea for sure.
I actually got it by accident, I was rushing through the Paris main train station, trying to catch my Eurostar on time, I knew I wanted to try their Tropical White tea they released at the time, so I grabbed the first white can I saw. What was my disappointment when I noticed at home I got the White Anastasia instead of Tropical White – even more disappointing, because where I live (Cambridge) we don’t have a Kusmi store with all the new releases.
I wasn’t too happy about it at first but I decided to give it a go anyway – and WHAT A NICE SURPRISE!

Be careful with it, don’t steep it for too long as it becomes bitter. I prefer it brewed in colder water, around 70-75 degrees, and not for too long. Even few seconds too long will make it bitter.
But if you don’t overdo it, you will be met with a lovely surprise – it is sour-fruity, citrusy, zingy and FRESH.
Goes well with sweets (well, what doesn’t, one might ask), good for morning, afternoon and evening. Feels different, interesting and a bit ‘special’. If you’re a fan of traditional Earl Grey – this is a must try!
I’m glad I made this mistake purchase – it seems we were meant to be together ;-)|

Adventaggedon Day 23: Tea 1/8

I was beginning to think this tea might now have made an appearance but I’m happy that it did! It’s one of my favourite EG blends in general, and yet another example of how well Kusmi approaches their white teas.

It was actually the last tea that I steeped up today as I was wrapping up at the office. I was trying to make sure I had dotted all my ’I’s and crossed all the ’T’s since I’ll be going on vacation tomorrow and wont be back there until sometime in the New Year. Were all the dishes gathered in the dishwasher? Did I start the dishwasher? Did I collect all of my mail and put it in my backpack to bring home? Were all the cardboard boxes collected for the cleaning team? Did I have my power cord for my laptop?

And, well, in trying to make sure I wasn’t leaving anything unfinished I over steeped my tea. A lot. I think I would be more bummed out by the bitterness I drew out were it not for the fact I already own a larger tin of this tea. It’s one of the few Kusmi blends I have a tin of, in fact. Even with some bitter edge, the cup was still nice – sort of like hot soothing lime water in the best kind of way one could possibly interpret the phrase hot soothing lime water.

At the end of the day I know the prominent lime note is why I actually like this tea so much compared to other Earl Greys – but hey, whatever works!

Kusmi Tea White Anastasia, the special blend for the celebration of its 100th anniversary. Since I’ve already used to drinking Taiwanese black tea and oolong tea, my palate can’t take the strong British style black tea nor the special blend tea ( like sea salt caramel oolong tea from Dammann Frères).

Dry leaf: The strong citrus aroma rushed into my nose. It should come from bergamot essential oil.
Taste: High note of citrus took over the first 3 seconds but the subtle freshness of green tea appeared. After one or two sips of this tea, you can feel the vibrant lemon aroma lingering in your mouth.
My Brewing: I first fellow the instruction, but the second time I used 3g of tea with 500ml water. This is just about right for me.

Why hello there! ❤

Long time no see, tea frens. I have been drinking zero tea for the last month or so, as I just didn’t feel like it – I assume because of the hot summer weather. But now that fall is fast approaching, I’m hoping to get back into the tea swing of things! Plus there’s nothing like the sweet siren song of advent calendar season to tempt me back… :D

So I’m happy to be among my fellow tea nerds again!

As my first tea, I figured I’d pick something out of my “oldest teas” box and an Earl sounded like just the ticket, so this one won out. I’m surprised to see a lot of the notes have rather mediocre ratings, as I dig this one. I enjoy Kusmi’s bergamot – it’s present but not overpowering. I’m not the type who enjoys those double bergamot Earls, so a more moderate amount is perfect for me. The lemon makes itself known, and I do get just a wisp of floral that could be the orange blossom. I tend to find bergamot a bit floral, so it’s possible that’s making it harder to detect the additional floral notes. Not being a flower lover when it comes to tea, I’m quite pleased at the subtlety.

Anyway, it’s a lovely light Earl Grey. I’m not sure I would know that it’s a white tea if I wasn’t told, it could just as easily be a very light black tea. There’s an earthy note to it that’s unusual for white tea, and I don’t get much in the way of hay. A perfect choice for a little afternoon tea relaxation break!

January Sipdown Prompt – your oldest tea

I am not counting teas that age like pu-erh norma couple of ancient herbals. This seems to be my oldest camellia sinensis and I am a little peeved to see that I didn’t even have it listed in my cupboard after all these years.

I really like this tea and have liked all the Russian style blends from Kusmi pretty well. This is essentially a white Earl Grey. The best by date was in 2021 and here it is 2024 and still flavorful. The level of bergamot is really good for me as I don’t like it overwhelmingly strong. This is moderate, so if you don’t like bergamot it probably won’t be your cup of tea,

I guess I need to focus on this one for a sipdown since it is older than I realized.

Pretty sure I’ve never had a white Earl Grey before, so it’s hard to compare. Though, so far there isn’t much to compare anyway, because it mainly just seems really light/mild. There is a sour-fruity, citrusy taste, and just a hint of the white tea, but I think I’ll need to make it stronger next time.
