Interesting! Does this tea have marshmallow root instead of marshmallows? How did it taste?

VariaTEA

It does have marshmallow root. I really like the marshmallow treat genmaichas and this is one of my favourites. If you check out the tea page, I’ve written several notes on how it tastes. These blank ones are just to track how many times I have a tea.

Silent Kettle

Aw! I am so glad you enjoyed it! Will be sure to see your previous notes on it! :)

Made this and then forgot about it while I did schoolwork. So its cold and also just not a favorite. It’s a Christmas tea so it has a similar profile to Merry Cookie. However, the rooibos base comes through a touch medicinal and then the orange is very sweet making this like an odd and artificial orange candy drink.

I was surprised at how much the orange came through here. It’s a whole lot of cardamom and orange, which is pretty festive. Almond also makes an appearance, not as marzipan and not in an overly nutty way but it does round out the flavor. This is a lovely take on the classic Christmas tea profile, with the flavors all being nicely balanced. However, it doesn’t scream cookie to me and this isn’t a flavor profile I want often so I don’t think I would repurchase this one.

Merry Cookie is such a cute and tasty-sounding name!

Oh my gosh! I have wanted to order from the NeccsiTeas for ages. It sounds like the type of teas I would love. Thank you for your honest review. Fellow Canadian tea-lover here! Ha-ha. Did you have to pay customs for these teas? Thank you!

VariaTEA

@Silent Kettle – I shipped this order to my Dad in LA and he brought them to Canada when he came to visit. It’s been a while since I ordered the Necessiteas to my address in Canada (several years), but when I did, I did not need to pay customs. While that should still be the case now, I can’t say for sure.

Thank you so much for letting me know! :) I might treat myself since I keep hearing wonderful things about this company.

Pretty sure there is more of this hanging out at my Dad’s place in LA for me. However, the package I had here has now been finished. Yay!

I like this one and I took it out a couple times when my stomach was unsettled. That wasn’t the case today but it’s nice it has the ability to help in those instances.

I like this best when its very hot still. Today it has cooled and so the apple comes through the ginger a bit and my fondness of the tea comes from the candied ginger flavor more than anything. So this cup is not my favorite.

Tea Lemonade Sipdown (257)

I didn’t like this one. The fruit notes were nice enough but the cinnamon and dandelion really ruined it for me.

I enjoyed this tea while it lasted but it always seemed to be missing something for me. I think I want more ginger and more crisp. Less of the sweet component.

I’m dealing with some bad congestion right now and find I am reaching for ALL my ginger-bomb teas right now. They just feel so nice on a sad throat…

VariaTEA

I’ll bet! I drink ginger teas if I’m nauseous and they’re just so comforting when you’re not feeling the best. I hope that you start feeling better and the congestion goes away soon though!

Threw the weed powder in this tonight since last time it did a great job of calming my brain while not really getting me high. I was able to focus and watch a lecture for class. I am actually super impressed b/c this tastes completely normal. The weed taste is fully covered and this is just deliciously banana and genmaicha awesomeness.

Courtney

The name of this one sounds so good! Which classes are you in?

Cameron B.

Mmmm banana. More banana teas!

VariaTEA

I can share some!

And this semester I am in Employment Law, Labour Law, Canadian Human Rights, And Income Tax. It’s been interesting learning them remotely, especially since some profs have adapted much better than others.

Courtney

Ooh sounds like a handful. Yes, some profs are better at adapting than others for sure!

Meant to make this as a tea lemonade only to realize we had no lemonade after I steeped the concentrate. So then it became a tea apple juice and it’s not very good.

I didn’t like this one. It was just way too sweet and artificial for my tastes. The Christmas tree sprinkles were super cute though.

Cameron B.

Why do sprinkles have to be so darn charming? :P

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
