drank Honeycrisp Apple by DAVIDsTEA

Mmm…this is exactly what I was hoping it would be. Sweet, crisp apple with a bit of a tart note (think granny smith) at the end. I do like it more as it cools down so I’m going to throw some together as a cold brew tonight as see how it fairs, but it’s definitely good hot too.

drank Nutty by Nature by DAVIDsTEA

While I was planning on avoiding this tea as it’s a mate, the smell was amazing so I gave into having a cup. There’s definitely a distinct and enjoyable fruity note but I didn’t really identify it as apricot (I would have said citrus-y, but it smelled like apples). However, the most prominent flavour for me here is the macadamia nut (and it’s unbelievable how much it reminded me of a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie). Nutty, buttery, creamy, and oh so good. This is followed up by a hint of almond, which is also rather nice.

The mate is still pretty prominent here, which is disappointing (though it goes with this tea better than many other mates I’ve had). This won’t be a restock for me for that reason. If this had been another base (maybe white), I wouldn’t hesitate to stock up.

Flavors: Almond, Citrus, Cookie, Creamy, Fruity, Nuts, White Chocolate

This wasn’t something I was all that interested in due to the coconut, but I got a whiff of it and decided to give it a try.

Well I’m glad I did! It’s a pretty sweet blend, with heavy creamy vanilla and fruit notes. I’ve never had mulberries before so I don’t really know what they taste like, but this reminds me of raspberry jam and maybe something a little more tropical. The coconut is definitely there, but in a good way. A few weeks back I had some pineapple squares with coconut, jam, and vanilla icing, and this keeps reminding me of those. I wouldn’t need to have this all the time, but I’m really enjoying it!

drank Random Steepings by Various Artists

Decided to follow the advice of a fellow steepsterite and mixed up a 50-50 mix of Salted Caramel and Peanut Butter Cup, and it was a fantastic idea! The blend was very heavy on the salted caramel tastes (which I’m glad had a decent amount of salt; I feared it wouldn’t be noticeable) with a light peanut/chocolate taste in the background. The two teas mix nicely. I’ll certainly finish off the last tsp. of my sample of Peanut Butter Cup like this.

I’m really looking forward to getting my sample of peanut butter cup. If I like it, I will try it as a latte :)

I think it would be really good as a latte :)

drank Mango Matcha by DAVIDsTEA
326 tasting notes

I’ll start by saying that I’ve never enjoyed matcha and wasn’t ever really planning on giving it another chance. And even in this case I’m not yet willing to try it by its self, even as a latte. HOWEVER, I can’t say no to mango so I picked some of this up to throw in smoothies and while I’m not at the point of adding enough to really taste it, it doesn’t ruin the flavour and it adds an awesome caffeine kick to a morning smoothie. I’m even contemplating trying it by its self (though I might have to pick up some more to do so; it’s going pretty fast).

Long story short, if you really hate matcha, this seems to be a good way to introduce yourself to it, if your determined.

As time go on, I seem to be more and more fond of straight teas.

I really like this one. It’s floral, sweet, and quite vegetal; it reminds me of corn husks among a number of other things. This seems to be a nice sipping tea. It’s a little intense in big gulps and the flavour changes as it cools. Completely ignored the brewing instructions, opting to steep it for 3 minutes at 85 degrees and there’s no bitterness and plenty of flavour. Really liking this one.

drank Ginger Pear (Organic) by DAVIDsTEA

Well this lives up to the name. First there’s ginger, then there’s pear. No real surprises here. I would like to see a bit of a stronger tea base; while there’s a hint of it at the end it’s really not a huge contender here. While in the past this might have been a bonus for me, I’ve been more looking towards straight(er) teas recently.

I think I’m about a month too early for this tea really. I suspect its warm/fruity notes will be welcome more in late September. Given that this was part of my “back to school” stock up before the summer steeper program at DAVIDs goes away, that’s probably rather appropriate. Still enjoyable, and I finally have a ginger tea.

drank Peanut Butter Cup by DAVIDsTEA

Got this as a free sample at DAVID’s today; it’s going to be part of this year’s fall collection. I figured this would either be excellent or a real let down, it turns out it’s kind of in between. It does capture the flavours of a peanut butter cup, but it’s a little too peanut-y for my tastes. I’ll probably try mixing the rest of my sample with a chocolate tea to amp it up a bit. I’d also be interested to try this as a latte. If you’re a big nut fan, give this a go. Looking forward to seeing what else the fall collection has in store.

Flavors: Chocolate, Peanut

I got an email about this tea, and it really intrigues me. I think I’ll buy 18 grams of it in the fall to try as a latte.

drank Yogi Berry by DAVIDsTEA

I’m not really sure how I feel about this. I enjoy the aftertaste, predominantly raspberries and blueberries, but I don’t actually enjoy it when drinking it; it’s a little overly sweet and artificial. Certainly wouldn’t buy again and I’m in no rush to finish the cup I have now. Sad, as I was actually looking forward to trying this one.

drank Honey, I Dew by DAVIDsTEA
326 tasting notes

My boyfriend got a cup of this today and, while he complained it was bitter, I found it WAY better than the cup I had a few months ago. This cup had an intense honeydew taste with a hint of mango. There’s still an astringency there, but it was not the almost undrinkable bitterness I experienced with my first cup of this. I’ll leave the difference up to the tea steeping skills of DAVID’s staff, but if this one’s done right it has some potential. Boosting it a few points.

Flavors: Astringent, Honeydew, Mango
