This is a nice, light chai. Very ginger heavy with a hint of anise that isn’t strictly unpleasant. Cinnamon and other spice notes in the background. Overall, very similar to some of Kusmi’s other teas but that’s not a bad thing.

DAVID’s iced teas of the day were this and Black Cherry and, since I really don’t like Black Cherry, I decided to try this. This is predominantly mint, and there’s something about DAVID’s mint that I really dislike. It almost tastes dusty to me. On top of that, mint isn’t something I would normally consider doing iced, and it definitely doesn’t work in this case. It tastes like drinking a glass of water right after using mouthwash. Hardly a hint of chocolate and I didn’t notice the rooibos at all. I would be willing to give this a go hot, but I think it would be so similar to Mint to Be or Read My Lips and still have that gross mint. I did get through my cup, but mostly because it tastes like water until the mint hits you.

Managed to forget that I had a cold brew going of this, so this was given a generous 40 or so hours to steep. The orange was a lot more prominent in this than the first time I had it, which did make it taste a lot more like an actual Shirley Temple than red licorice (though there’s still a hint of red licorice in there). It’s pretty sweet with a hint of tartness coming out. In there future I might steep it a little less, but this cup was more complex than my first.

So this tea seems to basically be Blueberry Jam with an added floral hint and a white base. First I tried this as a room temperature sample and it had a slight astringency, though not strictly unpleasant. Later, however, I had some in my travel mug with A LOT of ice and the colder temperature seemed to get rid of the astringency. As a bonus, none of the stevia you get with Blueberry Jam. Not sure if I’d be in a rush to pick some up, but it’s pretty good.

Finished this off by giving it a go iced. Better than what I was expecting and certainly one of my favourite black teas when it comes to being iced; probably because the black tea isn’t all that noticeable. Intense juicy blueberry notices and not a strong taste of stevia (as I’ve noticed in this tea on occasion and really rather dislike). This is not an essential in my cupboard but it will likely get restocked eventually.

This seems to be Kusmi’s version of a Lady Grey. It’s less intense than Twining’s Lady Grey, but has a similar “Froot Loopy” flavour. I don’t remember much else about this. It’s not remarkable, but it’s nice.

I’ll start by saying that I had no idea Laura Secord made tea, so I was a little skeptical. Overall though, this is rather nice. Heaviest note is most certainly blueberry accompanied by a nice, light, English Breakfast-y base. While the blueberry is the most intense, there’s definitely some other fruits in there (couldn’t strictly place them, but kind of feeling pomegranate). All through drinking this I had a feeling that it reminded me of something and now I realize it’s Peek Freans’ Blueberry Brown Sugar with Flax cookies (which would have been a nice accompaniment). It also seems very similar to DAVID’s Blueberry Jam, but with more kinds of fruit and no stevia taste. This tea gets juicier as it cools, which makes me believe it would make for a nice iced tea as well.

Chamomile has never really been my thing, but it’s grown on me over the past year. There’s not much to say about this particular one. It’s chamomile. Nice and simple.

I’m not sure if this was an odd scoop of leaf, because this seemed different tonight. Much sweeter than usual with more of a pineapple kick. Strong strawberry notes as well with a heavy pear aftertaste. Still good, but this tea usually gives me a more acidic vibe than I was getting tonight.

This is pretty good, but I definitely prefer black St Petersburg. The caramel and red berry notes work a lot better with the black base and are comparatively pretty weak in this variation. It’s not bad, but it’s nothing special and you’ll get more out of the original blend.
