Mixed up a cold brew blend of Pink Passionfruit and Ruby Red and it’s actually really good! I was concerned for a moment when I realized I’d totally forgot about it (it steeped for about 60 hours vs. the 24 I was aiming for :/ ) but it didn’t turn syrupy and it’s just got a nice, not too tart, grapefruit flavour. If you’ve got these lying around (though I know Pink Passionfruit was discontinued, so it seems unlikely), give it a go.

I’m not really a huge fan of what I’ve had of Teavana so far, but this is worth a go. Nice, simple jasmine tea. I only had a very small cup of it on my break, so I didn’t have much time to really explore it thoroughly, but I might get some for home.

So I really enjoyed this tea black, but it seemed like a latte kind of day and I figured this would make an okay latte.

This does indeed make an okay latte. In fact this makes the best latte I have ever had! If I ever drink this black again I will be surprised because this makes such a good latte! Take the delicious taste of this black and then imagine it sweeter, fluffier, and with English cream drizzled all over it. That is this tea as a latte, and it is magical. That said, it is quite sweet even without anything added to it, so you might want to save it for dessert. But YUM! If I could give this more than 100, I would.

Flavors: Bread, Cinnamon, Cream, Sugar, Sweet

Fjellrev

That sounds oh so scrumptious! I’ve yet to try it as a latte but I can only imagine how good it is.

Alyssa

Sounds like a nice Christmas morning kind of treat! Can’t wait to try my sample as a latte

drank Sweet Almond Green by DAVIDsTEA
326 tasting notes

So another rather enjoyable brew from the winter collection. I feel like this one varies a lot sample to sample because I’ve seen comments about it being both very almond-y and very grassy. Personally I found it just right. The words amaretto and marzipan are getting thrown around a lot, and that pretty much sums it up. Maybe a little more on the amaretto side than marzipan. We used to get amaretto cookies from the Italian grocer here; that’s basically this tea. Not getting any grassiness from the green tea at all, though it is evident it’s a green base. This isn’t bang on for me, because I’ve never been the biggest almond fan (though I really did like those cookies). All the same, I’d have this again.

Flavors: Almond, Marzipan

Preparation
175 °F / 79 °C 3 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 17 OZ / 500 ML
Alyssa

So strange— I was just commenting that it would be nice to try DAVIDs Amaretto and Sweet Almond Green side by side. I will have to try it if it’s in the advent calendar.

Fay

I believe sweet almond green is in the advent calendar.

drank Mulled Wine by DAVIDsTEA

Wine has never really been my thing, so I was going to make a point of avoiding this one (particularly as the last tea I had that reminded me of wine (Elderflower Spritz) was far from being my favourite). However, the dry leave of this one smells amazing, so I had to give it a go.

Really glad a did. While this does have a bit of a spiced, warm, sangria vibe, it still fails to really remind me of wine. It’s more just Christmas time by a fire with your family or a good book (which is obviously a good way to describe a taste). Overall, it’s predominantly cinnamon and orange, but if that’s how somebody described it to me, I wouldn’t be sold. It’s both light and heavy at the same time. I’m kind of not sure how to describe it. It’s a Christmas tea; I don’t think I’d want to drink it any other time except November or December, but it’s a very good Christmas tea.

A note on the oolong base: It’s not really there. If your after this because it’s an oolong, buy a different tea.

Flavors: Cinnamon, Fruity, Orange, Spices

Fjellrev

Maybe that’s why I subconsciously steered away from this one; Elderflower Spritz really turned me off too. But I’m glad to hear it’s not bad. I shall pick some up next time I go.

Fay

I would say it’s definitely worth a try!

drank Hot Chocolate by DAVIDsTEA

I was skeptical about this tea for a few reasons: 1) Other reviews haven’t been great so far (Can we say stevia? Ew.) and 2) it’s a pu-erh which I’ve yet to have much luck with, so I was actually rather surprised this morning. Does it taste like hot chocolate? Yes. Does it taste like good hot chocolate? Well not really. It’s more a long the lines of a too watery cup of hot chocolate that could really use some milk, but there’s kind of a nostalgic element to that feeling that makes it rather enjoyable. I actually really liked this as a pu-erh. The earthiness actually added to the flavour as opposed to getting in the way (looking at you, Juicy Orange). And, though it may have just been my sample, I didn’t pick up on any stevia in this. I would really like to try this one as a latte, but black I actually found it quite nice.

Flavors: Chocolate

Preparation
Boiling 4 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 17 OZ / 500 ML
Fjellrev

Glad this one didn’t assault your tastebuds!

Alyssa

I hope DAVIDs is looking at the Steepster reviews re: stevia, but I doubt it.

Fay

I doubt it as well :/ Though overall I think the popularity of stevia is going down.

Alyssa

Thank goodness. It seemed like such a huge thing last year! I’m feeling like they’re trying to go more organic, at the very least.

This is a pretty nice fruity mix. A little tart, but not overpowering with a bit of an artificial, bubblegum vibe. Not my favourite, but refreshing.

Preparation
Iced
Alyssa

Is it better iced?

Fay

I do enjoy it iced. I haven’t tried it hot though.

Alyssa

Ah! Is this an old sample or did you get it recently? The cup I had was at least two years old, haha.

Fay

I ended up picking up 100g of it cause it was on sale online (they brought it back briefly this summer) and I needed to boost my order to $50 for free shipping when I ordered the advent calendar. I do enjoy to opportunity to try some of the older blends sometimes as I only got into tea about a year ago.

drank Cardamom French Toast by DAVIDsTEA
326 tasting notes

Out of the 2015 Winter Collection, this was by far the one I was more eager to try. But I didn’t get my hopes too high, because quite often the one I’m eager to try doesn’t live up to my expectations.

I’ll start by saying that I do find something off putting about the smell. Overall it’s not gross but there’s something about it (probably the lemon peel) that would make me hesitate. Red flag moment for me, because the smell is usually not overly wrong about how much a like a tea.

But it would seem this time is an exception to that rule! Whatever’s causing the funky smell in no way translates into the taste! On top of that, this 100% delivers on the whole french toast thing. Pretty perfect french toast at that. Even a drizzle of maple syrup in there. Mmm…

Now I have probably already blown the rest of the year’s tea budget at this point, but I know I’ll have to pick some of this up…On the Christmas wish list it goes!

Flavors: Bread, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Maple Syrup, Sugar, Vanilla

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 4 min, 0 sec 3 tsp 17 OZ / 500 ML
Fjellrev

Yay, glad you like it too!

drank Tippy Ceylon Black by DAVIDsTEA

So I’m not entirely sure how to feel about this one.

Well start by saying that it smells amazing, no doubt. Then at first the tea its self was as expected. Sweet grass, sweet grains, etc. Good, but not amazing.

And then it goes from sweet grain to sweet pasta. And I don’t want to say it tastes like Alphagetti, but it 100% tastes like Alphagetti. Now that’s not strictly unpleasant, but it’s not what I want in a tea. At the very least, it’s a little odd.

But THEN it starts to taste like bread and butter. And I’ve been looking for a tea that tastes like bread because honestly, if I could live off bread I would. This gets huge points there.

And then we’re back to the Alphagetti…

So probably not a buy for me. I’ll leave the limited quantities to someone who isn’t having as much of a roller coaster ride with this one.

I do kind of want to buy a baguette now though…

Mixed together some of DAVID’s Kashmiri Chai and Chocolate Chili Chai this morning (50:50). Was a little hesitant as I was afraid of how the chili would mix, but it’s so good. Really brings out chocolate and marzipan (I still don’t understand why I get marzipan from the Kashmiri Chai, but I do every time) with subtle spice notes in the background. Would recommend.
