From DAVIDsTEA

Feeling hot, hot, hot

We take hot chocolate pretty seriously around here. It’s gotta be rich, decadent and mega-creamy. And after searching high and low for the ultimate hot chocolate tea, we finally found the perfect blend. We took a flavourful base of pu’erh and black tea, then we added real cocoa nibs and fudgy chocolate chips. The result? An uber-chocolately blend worthy of the name Hot Chocolate. Dark, sweet and totally satisfying, it’s the perfect winter treat.

This is pretty darn good!
It’s become cold again tonight after being mild for a few days (which was lovely) so I wanted something that would give me cozy, comforting vibes in a mug.
This is doing the trick!
I love Tim Horton’s steeped tea and this reminds me of a chocolate-infused version of that and I’m here for it!

I do not generally like pu’erh teas. In fact, I put off tasting this for quite some time because of it. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I really enjoy it. I don’t care for the stevia (it always tastes bitter to me), but the chocolate notes are great.

First time trying this tea since i started drinking loose leaf teas and realized my tastes have changed. I remember thinking this tea was meh first time but now enjoyed it very much. Kind of has a chocolate nut flavor to it

Here is yet another tea that I decided to sip down, only to discover that it isn’t even listed in my cupboard. But my pouch is nearly empty and there are no tasting notes from me so how did that happen? Needless to say, I am adding to cupboard so that tomorrow I can have the pleasure of deleting from cupboard.

It isn’t quite a sipdown yet, but will be soon.

This was a gift from Superanna, I bet about five years ago! Maybe even more. Then I hoarded it, waiting for cold weather and company to coincide. Time to drink it!

This is a blend of puerh and black tea. I don’t taste the black tea much as the puerh and strong, strong chocolate dominate. It was nicely chocolatey and I have grown accustomed to chocolate flavored tea over the years. It isn’t an abomination to me now and I no longer complain about it being thin and unlike REAL hot chocolate. It doesn’t seem to have suffered from aging. There is a deep, dark almost coffee note (mocha?) that is pretty nice at breakfast,

There is a lot of oil floating on top of the cup, but I expect that from some flavored teas, especially ones with real chocolate in them. I had this with breakfast, which was a heavily buttered Bays English Muffin.

Once the muffin was gone, I sipped and realized that this was way way too sweet to be just sweet from melted chocolate pieces. I looked at the package and saw stevia extract. Normally I hate stevia but with food it wasn’t as apparent. Now that the muffin is gone, I get the weirdness of stevia.

This was decent with food, and if you like stevia it is decent on its own. I won’t repurchase, but I enjoyed it well enough. If I want chocolate puerh, I will order Lupicia Chocolate Strawberry!

I blame steepster for too many teas because of the fun of adding/deleting to the cupboard. :D

Had a Hot Chocolate “latte” the other day; it was pretty tasty and used up a good portion of the remainder of this tea. Generally, though, I’d prefer to just have brewed cacao shells with milk if I want to have an unsweetened but delicious hot chocolate.

I love this tea. It’s a longer steeped tea for me, which is just fine as I tend to like teas that I can steep for a long time and not have to worry about oversteeping. I don’t like to fuss about with my teas. Although, Oolong teas are worth the fuss! But I digress, onto the hot chocolate review!
I steeped it for the duration of my cup and while it was lovely on it’s own, it really felt like a cup of earthy hot chocolate once I added a pinch of sugar and a dollop of cream to it. Then it was the chocolately treat my heart desired! Creamy, chocolately without being too sweet, with an earthy charm from the Pu’erh. It was simply heavenly and claimed it’s spot on the favourites shelf.

Additional notes: I bought this in the David’s little sampler tower of cardboard boxes with six teas… I was kind of hoping for more tea in them. I think I only had two steep sessions with this tea, which probably only means a little over three teaspoons, maybe four was in the sample. Oh well. I wanted a chocolate tea today. I’m not a fan of this — it tastes mostly like cloying stevia. It would have been so much better without it!

AJRimmer

Whenever I buy a DavidsTea sampler that’s supposed to have X ounces in it, it always makes way fewer servings than when I buy X ounces of one tea. Their measurements must be off or something.

Yeah, looking at my past note, for 1 1/5 teaspoons, this sample only had 3 teaspoons total. The choc chips were big, I guess?

The flavor of this tea is one that is truly unique. Of course, the rich pu’erh leaves let off a slightly smoky hint. However, this is quickly cleared by the creamy and delicious combination of chocolate and cocoa. This tea is extremely rich in chocolate flavor, to me the essence is a more of a dark chocolate vibe rather than a classic super sweet milk chocolate which makes sense given the slight bitterness of cocoa nibs. Personally, I’m a major fan of dark chocolate, so this tea, especially steeped as a latte and topped with warm steamed milk, is one of my favorite winter tea treats.
