1780 Tasting Notes

I’ve been drinking this a bit lately. I think it’s supposed to be a valentine tea, so it seemed appropriate for the themed tea in the sipdown thread. The first steeping of this today was great. Strong rich rose with good supporting flavors rounding it out nicely. The second steeping was a little weak and still tasted bland even with the addition of whipped cream. At the rate I’m going, it’s likely to be a sipdown soon along with Hound On The Hunt!

It’s been 12 days since I last drank this and I forgot what I thought of it. Cinnamon. It’s all coming back to me. No chocolate, just cinnamon. I’m not in the mood for this cup.

Sipdown! Is it sipdown or sip down? Hmmmm….
Got to try this tea thanks to AmandaStory sending a sample! I overleafed this cup a bit and it’s much more flavorful than my first. I’m not quite sure what a fluffernutter is. I’m guessing a marshmallow peanut butter combo? I’m having this with a bit of creamer, Oat Yeah I think. It adds a lot of sweetness to it. The sip tastes very banana nutty with a slight graham cracker taste coming out at the end of the sip. The finish is very similar with the banana and nuttiness taking turns being more prominent. It’s a very tasty cup. Probably not anything I’m moved to buy, but very fun to try!

drank Creme Brûlée by The NecessiTeas

Sample from AmandaStory! Thanks!

I keep going back and forth between thinking this tastes creme brulee like and not. I feel like it’s a hard flavor to transfer over to a tea. It starts out with a deeper burnt sugar flavor, a hint of sweetness and malt, then it goes a little flat. It gets interesting again in the finish, but only just. Malt is just barely back and an almost rooibos taste. I wonder if this would do better cold steeped. Hot isn’t doing it for me.

Sipped on this yesterday and had to have another cup today! It’s slightly sweet, some sips are spicy, smoky and delicious! Shared some with a friend who thought it was quite smoky, but she’s never had a lapsang before. I’m loving this tea.

AmandaStory sent me a sample of this! Thanks! :)
I made this, took a few sips then walked away from my cup until it had cooled. When hot it was sweet and fruity, mostly pineapple flavor. Now that it has cooled there is a slight tartness to it that seems fitting with the fruit flavors. It’s still mostly pineapple, but I think I get a little lemongrass along with it. It looks like there is a variety of things in the ingredients list, but I’m not able to taste those. This is a fun cup, but not something I’d seek out and buy.

Trying this again. I was careful not to overleaf. It smells pumpkin spice like and it has a pumpkin spice taste, but there is something I’m not liking in the scent and flavor. It almost tastes chemical like, but I’m not sure which ingredient is giving me that impression. The clove is really strong in the sip. The strange taste lessens as my cup cools, but there is something that is still off in the finish. I’m not digging this one. :/

Trying to watch the impeachment trial… and it’s really boring watching this lawyer go on and on with irrelevant filler material. I’m going to have to check in later to see what they decided. In the mean time I needed a peach tea to drink for the occasion! I haven’t had this in some time and it’s one that I love. Having it hot today, although my preference for this one is cold steeped and iced. I’m getting a softer peach this way instead of the vibrant flavor I get when iced. Still, it’s pretty great start to finish with a consistent level of peach the whole time. This is a staple in my cupboard.

Oh! Peach AND mint! That’s clever!

AJRimmer

Ohhhh peach. I didn’t get it until Mastress Alita’s comment. I think I’ll have some peach tea too (:

Mastress Alita

I can’t stop laugh-crying over that video. Made my whole day.

tea-sipper

Too funny! And that cat looks so sad.

Dustin

I saw that clip! I was disappointed it wasn’t longer. It would have been hilarious to see more of the hearing with the first ever feline lawyer!

VariaTEA

The shaky voice and the need to say he’s not a cat is what got me.

Trying this one again for National Pizza Day! It pretty much tastes like pizza sauce, so it seemed like the perfect fit. It has tomato in it, so the sauce base is there. On top of that there are herbs that hit me like oregano. I think it works better as a pizza sauce tea than a bloody mary tea! It’s a little more enjoyable with that mindset, but still not a tea I enjoy. This being probably my least favorite AQ2T blend. Maybe I should pick a second tea for pizza day. One that I like. :/

I was thinking maybe something with fennel, that always reminds me of sausage…

Mastress Alita

I love fennel (and sausage… and fennel-y sausage!)

Dustin

I like weird pizza toppings. Pesto and potato. Kafir lime powder and coconut shavings. Pear and gorgonzola. BBQ sauce instead of pizza sauce. I’m going to have to think on this a bit to find the perfect tea.

Mastress Alita

I actually hate regular pizza sauce (tomato) and can only stomach it if it is super light and there are lots of toppings. I have some weird texture issues… so I always get pizzas with some sort of “alternative” sauce (garlic, ranch, BBQ, etc.) As an Idahoan, potato on pizza is pretty common in the specialty/mom and pop shops around here! One that I quite like has a ranch sauce topped with cheese, hashbrowns, and bacon. Nom! They also had a chicken and cashew pizza that I adored.

Dustin

I have only ever been able to find one place that puts potato on pizza here in CA, Extreme Pizza. We ended up ordering some last night. I got the potato/pesto pizza and their gorgonzola/sage/walnut one!

Got a sample of this with my order! It wasn’t very exciting when my cup was hot. There was something empty or flat about it. Since it has cooled the flavors have gotten more interesting. It’s still a little empty in the sip, but the finish has something going for it. It reminds me a lot of the chocolate orange tea this company does, but with the orange replaced with darker berry flavors. So far feeling lukewarm about this one.

Bio

My name is Dustin and I like tea.

I’m an added flavor kind of tea fan, but have had a growing appreciation for plain. I want my tea to remind me of cookies and cakes with coconut and almond slices with a hint of chocolate drizzled on top. I want dancing ponies and flying monkeys shooting off fireworks! And no hibiscus. Hibiscus is the devil.
