From DAVIDsTEA

Indulge

This ultra-rare oolong from the Wuyi Mountains of China is velvety smooth and lightly creamy, with a subtle hint of orchid. It’s said that it came about when the moon fell in love with a comet. The comet passed her by, as comets will do. The moon cried milky tears, which chilled the tea fields, withering the leaves and giving them a delicate creaminess. It’s been a rare luxury ever since.

Ingredients: Chinese oolong tea from the Fujian province, natural flavouring.

Had this one brewed in store for me. After reading all the reviews I had high expectations for this milk oolong, having only ever had one other before. Sadly in comparison this tea seemed almost flavourless. There was a definite milkiness to it, but compared to the one I have here from the Tea Haus, David’s can’t compare. Sorry David, for once I’m going with someone else for my crack supply.

Sweet, light and delicate. I didn’t let this steep for too long because I wanted a second go at my sample. Don’t add anything to this beautiful tea, you heathens. (Thank you for the sample, TassieTeaGirl!)

Third oolong! Sweet aroma and smooth taste; a very very light-colored brew. Seems like it can stand for quite a few infusions. Surprisingly not bitter for such a long steep time.

Too expensive to become a regular for me, but I’m really liking these oolongs.

The first thing I noticed about this tea was its aroma. Oh, my, this aroma! Sweet condensed milk, and overpowering. As the tea is steeping, the aroma expands to reveal a floral base. It’s as if someone has had the bright idea to add buttermilk to a glass of rosewater.

Waiting for the soup to cool, the flowers become more pronounced. When I sip, I taste the butter first (it’s still the dominant odor) but it quickly rolls to the edge of the tongue to make way for orchids on the tip. This movement happens as quickly as electricity flows through a circuit. A slight vegetal taste creeps up but is drowned in butter so quickly it leaves not so much as a footprint.

Another sip. Sheesh, the butter! It robes the mouth, but still there’s a kernel of flower petals. If they’re the pistachio, the butter is the chocolate encasing it. This tea survives three infusions easily without losing much of its potency. The buttermilk taste is slick and delicious, but I can’t imagine drinking this every day. It’s something to have for dessert along with a bowl of ice cream and a slice of baklava.

Scratch that. Sounds like a recipe for a sugar-induced coma.

This tea is a blessing! If you are strictly a black tea drinking I highly suggest you step outside your comfort zone and give this tea a try! I drank this tea plain and it was perfect. The milk note comes through strong and creamy. The tea has a light green flavor that goes down smooth.

I think I read somewhere that Oolong is like the “champagne of teas” though I might be thinking of Darjeeling. Or I’m totally wrong with both. :P In any case, this tea tasted truly decadent as my $1 Straight Tea promo tea to go today. I got it with a little agave, but decided to skip any milk (with Oolongs, I can go either way, which is one reason I love them so). Ok, so for the taste…I couldn’t really discern any milky or creamy notes, but honestly, I have a hard time pinning this down to a particular flavour, as it seems simple and complex at the same time. Like Roxy Music’s Avalon…so many members in the band, but the sound is smooth, but textured. Some people say buttery, and yeah, I guess I could say that, though sometimes I can’t get the descriptives. All I can say about this tea is that it truly does feel like a luxurious tea that tantalizes my taste buds. Should I decide to buy a straight tea, this is one I will definitely consider.

I have been drinking this one to death with the straight promo, because it’s so darn expensive otherwise! It resteeps like a dream, and it just makes me so beautifully happy.

I think that the promo is great, because sometimes we forget the basics of tea under all the fruits and nuts and flavours and all. Of all the straight teas, I think Oolong is my favourite, maybe tied with Darjeeling. I do love me a genmai cha though, and I think they count that as a straight tea.

I think this might be the perfect cup of tea.

It’s complex and rich and floral and light and and and… awesome.

I find myself craving a cup (or three) of milk oolong almost every day! I’ve had some other “milk-flavoured” oolongs, and they absolutely pale in comparison with this one. It re-steeps incredibly well, and the creaminess lasts and changes through every infusion. It’s gorgeous, and I love it.

Only shared with very special folks. ;-)

Okay, “milky” oolong we need to talk a little.
You do taste good, okay, we’re right with it and I do like that.

But, what’s the difference with every quality oolong i’ve tasted?
Do you add something to my collection?
Do my buds will notice the difference between your aroma and taste?
NO. YOU’RE LIKE ANY OTHER FUCKING DUDE OF THIS KIND!
YOU’RE A LIAR! I’VE HAD GREAT EXPECTATIONS FROM YOUR PART!

Hahaha! No, seriously, this one is like a lots of Oolong i’ve tasted…
Buy “Tie Kwan Yin” which cost less than this one.

This is my first experience with both milk oolong and DAVIDsTEA, and I’m very very happy with both. The shipping from DAVIDsTEA was fast and free, and the teas came packaged in appealing foil pouches describing the contents and providing steeping instructions. The inclusion of a free tin with every 100g purchase is a wonderful bonus, and I expect I’ll have more than my fair share of DAVIDsTEA tins laying around soon!

Not knowing at all what to expect from a milk oolong, I was mildly surprised at its nondescript appearance and absolutely blown away by the smell – this may as well be a stick of butter in a bag! The leaves are rolled up and dark green, and light! The 25g bag I purchased seems like it’ll last me a fair while.

The butter smell yields a bit to an earthy, herbal scent in the steep, and is nearly gone by the time I’m putting the cup to my lips. The flavor sticks around though! This is all cream, honestly one of the smoothest teas I’ve been able to try, with just the right amount of grassy aftertaste to remind me I am, in fact, drinking something made from a plant. The liquor is a perfect golden yellow, classic oolong appearance. Upon multiple steepings, the grassy flavor becomes more prominent, which is not a bad thing in the least.

This tea impressed me with the novelty, but wasn’t gimmicky enough that I felt iffy about finishing the bag. I have heard tale of a coconut-flavored milk oolong, and that sounds like an absolute dream. I’d purchase this again.

My favourite tea ever! I absolutely love it through every steeping. I love that it tastes like sweetened condensed milk, with no milk whatsoever. All tea should be this incredible.
