From DAVIDsTEA

Indulge

This ultra-rare oolong from the Wuyi Mountains of China is velvety smooth and lightly creamy, with a subtle hint of orchid. It’s said that it came about when the moon fell in love with a comet. The comet passed her by, as comets will do. The moon cried milky tears, which chilled the tea fields, withering the leaves and giving them a delicate creaminess. It’s been a rare luxury ever since.

Ingredients: Chinese oolong tea from the Fujian province, natural flavouring.

This is my first milk oolong :)

On first opening the package, the scent is intoxicating. I loved the milk scent, not quite milky but more like sweetened condensed milk. The leaves are tightly rolled and dark green.

The milky scent stayed throughout the four steepings, so I’m inclined to believe that it is natural and not from added flavoring. The brew was as smooth as I’m used to (I’m an oolong-lover) and had low to no astringency.

I found it very pricey at $18/50g, but with multiple steepings the cost becomes more manageable. Note: this tea is from China and not from Taiwan. I don’t think I’ll repurchase this tea and will move on to Ten Ren’s High Mountain Jin Xuan milk oolong after this. It is from Taiwan, and is a more affordable $38/150g.

This was my first oolong, I believe, so I had no idea what to expect.
I enjoyed it! When the leaves unfurled I was surprised at how large they were. I did not need many to make 16 oz, and I resteeped them a second time with great success.

The flavour was deliciously mossy, with an almost peachy taste. Very smooth.

I’m not an oolong fan but this is definitely changing my mind. I bought it because the milky scent really intrigued me. The downside is that I’ve read that this oolong is actually flavored, but I don’t have too much familiarity with unflavored oolongs.

It definitely has that milky taste and creamy texture to it. It’s slightly sweet and floral – almost a bit too floral for my tastes. It goes well for breakfast and I’ve found it tastes even better cold. It can be a bit too strong on the first steep (or if it’s oversteeped), but if you do it right it comes out very refreshing. The scent is amazing and it definitely enhances the taste of the tea.

While I enjoyed it I most likely will not be purchasing it again. I prefer it iced versus hot as I feel it reduces some of the floral notes that I personally don’t like.

By far my favorite Oolong tea. I love this tea so much! It keeps its flavour for a few steepings and has a nice creamy taste. I don’t find the need to add anything to this tea, but when I’m feeling extra fancy it goes well in a latte. I do find that after the 3rd steeping it tends to get a bit grassy so I usually throw in a couple more leaf curls and I’m good to go. I could drink this tea all day every day.

I often add a little more tea on later steepings to help keep up the flavor profile, too.

So sweet, so good…. so expensive too… so it make me sad to see the bottom of the bag this morning :(

This tea is very unusual, i just love it !
Its hard to describe, green and spinash-y and at the same time so smooth and creamy like milk….and buttery too ! I can pick some of the orchid floral flavor . Every sip I take is a little bit different, sometimes its very green and floral, sometimes very milky and sweet. There’s a lot of layer of taste going on here ; It is so tasty and at the same time so delicate!

I’m going to resteep this all day long :)

Okay, as I’m drinking this tea for perhaps the 5th time, I’m noticing more and more about the flavors. The scent is, of course, the most appealing part of this tea. When I first opened the bagged, I was swooned with delight. I LOVE condensed milk! I went around shoving it under everyone’s nose as I waited for the water to boil.

The third steeping might be my favorite. The condensed milk flavor is gone, but there is still a hint of milky smoothness. The mineral flavor has mostly gone as well. What’s left is still floral and earthy and totally oolong-y.

However, upon drinking it, the milky flavor is noticeably marred by the heavy mineral flavor. I hope this means I’m getting lots of minerals from this tea. :D While I can still enjoy this tea and even look forward to drinking it, it’s just not as creamy as I would like and it tastes too much like vitamins. It is also not really too floral with a slight bitter aftertaste that I associate with lesser quality oolongs. There’s also a bit of apple peel in the aftertaste.

Rich oolong flavor… wished it was a bit more milky
Good after multiple steeps

Twilight

I find it’s milkiest after a shorter steep – even just 30 seconds! :) How long did you steep it for?

beestea

thanks! ill try that
i usually steep it for at least 3 mins

Twilight

Ah, that’ll do it! I usually steep it for one minute, then increse by 30 seconds for each subsequent steep. Good luck!

Milk Oolong remains in my top five favourite teas, and I love the one from David’s Tea. From the mythical story about the tea, to the taste itself, this tea is hard to beat. It’s also great for re-steeping, making the initial expense worth every penny.

The greatest part of this tea is that nothing is even added to the tea itself – so the unusual, amazing flavour of the oolong is completely natural. The flavour comes from very specific conditions in weather caused by a rare, sudden change of temperature during harvest.

The smell of the tea itself comes across as a strong milky odor. The taste keeps this milk flavour with some hints of light orchid, a usual characteristic of oolong. To me, this tea tastes like milk and cookies – a delicious combination reminiscent of a shortbread cookie.

Try it – you won’t be disappointed!

Edit: Its not good anymore. I picked up another 20g and now it has a very artificial, yogurty powder taste (like those dry yogurt bits in cereal). When I first tried this tea there was no milk flavouring, and the price was higher, and it was delicious. Well, now there is flavouring, which I imagine is why the price dropped. The taste is just not the same… I don’t like it at all.

Ooooooooh my god. I picked up 15g of this to try. I’m still a newbie to tea, and while I read about the gong fu style of steeping I messed up my first try. I gave it a rinse of 15 seconds, steeped it again, tasted like meh. I gave up and just steeped it for 5 minutes straight and it tasted like grass. Oooooh, what a waste of good tea!

I gave it another shot a couple days ago and oh my god. I steeped it at a little under boiling for 2 minutes, took a sip hot, and thought it was much better than before but still not impressive. I let it cool for a couple minutes while typing up my essay, took a second sip…. and oh my god. It was like drinking cream of broccoli or spinach soup! It was so creamy in the mouth and the taste was so buttery and rich – I couldn’t believe it. I’m trying to drop some fat weight, and while I still enjoy eating bacon and eggs and other rich foods while doing so… This was such a rich treat. I felt like such a gluttonous fatty drinking this tea, as if I’d put on 10lbs with each sip. God. I need to buy a hundred grams of this stuff! Its too good!

I did a second steep of it at 4 minutes and this taste was a little less like cream of whatever soup and more like pure butter. Almost sickening. Almost. I need more of this in my life. I can’t believe its not butter.
