Superfine Jasmine Downy Dragon Pearls Green Tea

jasmine is a favourite of mine… not just the tea, but also the flowers that climb, their scent wending its way in through windows echoing the motion of the vines. jasmine has an interesting caffeine effect i find… i can drink it anytime without fear that it will keep me awake so it has become a lovely warm nighttime beverage.

to be honest i think the most striking aspect of this tea is that it unrolls… as an artisan tea, the pearls meet the requirements nicely. each ball is reminiscent of fiddlehead ferns as it uncurls. aside from that though it’s a nice jasmine, but it doesn’t stand out remarkably aside from that. nice, but not something i would pay shipping for.

Ahh, this is much better. Had to get the icky rooibos taste out of my mouth! Mmm, jasmine :)

Fruity like Fuji apples and just as sweet and satisfying. fragrant. Truly delicate and cute. Very very tasty. I’m happy I bought a sample of this.

I had been saving this sample for towards the end of my sample stash because I tend to save the best things for last. But I’m having a really hard time right now and I need to calm down and treat myself.

I was a little confused about how much to use for my teapot with 200ml of water. Teavivre’s site says 1tsp and equates that to 7g, and that’s not right. Others here have mentioned using 1tsp. Most notes though haven’t said outright how much they used, but hinted that they used the whole sample pack of 7g. I hedged my bets and used 3.5g, which turned out to be exactly my tea scoop that is 1.5tsp! With that amount I did Teavivre’s recommendation of 1, 2, and 3min steeps.

1st steep: On opening the pack, I was met, no, I was virtually mugged by sweet jasmine. But mugged in a good way, of course. Behind that was a subtle woody scent. After the steep, the pearls were only starting to open, and the woody scent seemed to be in the middle of the jasmine now, making me picture a swirling ball of jasmine with a small, central core of the woody-ness. It was just like being able to smell the flower and its stem. Tomato lovers know that a tomato smells best when it still has some vine attached, and this is the same; you get a fuller sensation. In the cup it was just the same, and all the heady aromas really filled my mouth and nose.
2nd steep: The pearls were most unfurled now, but they still kept the general pearl shape in the centers. This was very much like the first cup, but the woody scent in the wet leaf was now much more like green tree sap, a bit richer and deeper. I wouldn’t have expected to pick up on that. Rather proud of myself there.
3rd steep: I’m surprised that there still seems to be some centers of pearls mostly together. Looks like I could get another steep from this, but it’s getting late. I’ll have to try getting to four steeps next time. It’s also not noticeably different from the previous cup.

This is so smooth and velvety that it is almost creamy as someone else here mentioned. I haven’t tried the lower-priced Premium Jasmine Dragon Pearls, but based on everything I’ve had so far from Teavivre, I can’t imagine they would be a disappointment. But it looks like I’ll be getting one or the other of them for my permanent stash!

Jasmine tea is not a selection that I pursue. Many of the different brands that I tried were like drinking a bottle of perfume. However, Teavivre surprised me with their last jasmine offering. I actually enjoyed it. So, I wasn’t filled with dread this time.

Immediately upon opening the sample package, a strong jasmine smell flooded my nostrils. Uh-oh, I thought. But, I remained positive and kept reminding myself that I did like Teavivre’s other jasmine tea.

I steeped the little green pellets at 175 degrees for two minutes. A gold colored liquid was the result.

The brewed version of this tea also had a powerful jasmine odor. I still trudged on and took my first sip. Yes, I could taste the jasmine, but the flavor was light and sweet. I was able to swallow it very easily. After several more swigs, a very nice honey-like aftertaste lingered on my palate.

I have to admit, Teavivre has done it again! This is another jasmine tea that I like!

It is a very sweet, light, and pleasant blend. I still won’t run out and stock the house with jasmine tea, but I will enjoy using up this entire sample. And, if someone were to offer me another cup of this selection in the future, I won’t turn it down!

Every time I think I don’t like floral teas, along comes Jasmine. Sweet and naturally “perfumey” I truly enjoy the dry aroma almost as much as the tea.

Teavivre has a new Jasmine tea that is supposed to be even higher quality than their premium Jasmine. While I am not doing a side-by-side comparison today (I’d be all jasmined out) this is a superior Jasmine.

The dry leaves are rolled into tight pearls and are olive green with prominent silver-white fuzz from the leaf tips. In producing this tea, the infusion of the leaves with jasmine is a time intensive process as the tea leaves are scented with jasmine flowers 7 separate times. If you have ever had cheap jasmine tea (that was probably just sprayed with a scent), you will truly appreciate the effort made here.

Liquor is pale yellow and translucent. The flavor is as you would expect-very sweet and jasmine-y. Not sure what else smells or tastes like jasmine. The tea is completely smooth and natural. I got 3 good steeps out of this at 1m, 2m, and 3m respectively with a constant water temp of 175. If you like high-quality jasmine, you should check this tea out.

Another sample from Teavivre! I haven’t had Jasmine Pearls before. I have almost been staying away as I had a Jasmine tea that I very much disliked and I assumed I just did not like Jasmine. However, this tea is divine – aromatic like the Jasmine flower, sweet and light. Just a nice tea to drink over and over again.

The dry leaves are so pretty – little pearls with streaks of white – that just putting them in my tea strainer feels like a special occasion! The pearls smell wonderfully like jasmine perfume.

I don’t have the equipment to make this perfectly, but I did my best. I brewed one serving in 8 oz of water at approx. 180 degrees for 1.5 mins. The first steep comes out a nice golden color and smells very intensely of jasmine. It’s actually almost too strong. The flavor is a beautiful, delicate green tea with a strong jasmine element. Again, the jasmine is very nearly overwhelming, but doesn’t actually cross the line. This tea is very smooth and leaves an almost minty aftertaste. So far, very enjoyable.

Second steep for 2 mins, approx. 180 degrees. The grassy green tea flavor comes forward, though the jasmine is still strong. Incredibly smooth mouthfeel. The slight dryness of the green tea base and sweetness of the jasmine balance each other nicely.

Third steep! 3 mins, approx. 180 degrees. Still quite a good cup. Tastes about the same as the second steep.

I actually got a good fourth steep out of this, too. It should be noted that this tea is very energizing – more than I have found most green teas to be. Which is awesome, unless you start drinking the tea at 8pm. So I stopped after the fourth cup, but I saved the leaves and will try to make more tea with them later.

If you like jasmine, this is the tea for you. If you don’t, this isn’t a tea that will ease you into it. Personally, I quite enjoyed it and am looking forward to the rest of my sample.

update: I ultimately got SIX good cups out of this! Granted, the last one had to be steeped for a long time and was a tad weaker than the previous cups, but it was still quite good. Very impressive.

Wow this is so lovely. I love jasmine teas and this is a really good one. Very smooth and sweet. It has just the right amount of jasmine not overpowering at all. This is so calming and soothing. I got this as a sample and I must say I can see myself ordering a full amount next time. Thanks Teavivre!

WOW THIS IS. SO GOOD. The smell is strangely nostalgic, I’m totally being brought back to when I was like 5 years old or something. EVEN THE TASTE IS SOMEWHAT NOSTALGIC. Wow this is probably the best tasting jasmine I have ever had. I’m not even a fan of super floral teas, but something about this is… beyond what one would think of when they think of FLORAL this is just really clean but kinda woodsy and DANG THE PEARLS! The pearls alone are gorgeous! This is my first pearl tea and even watching them unfurl was really neat! I can only imagine the work and care that was put into making each one of these. How cool, what a delightful tea, golly.

I wish I could figure out where this nostalgia feeling is coming from, maybe it will come to me. But for now I will just keep smelling and sipping this, I’m on my 3rd re-steep already HEH HEH!
