drank Colada Splash by Hotcups

Cold Brew Sipdown

I actually drank this about a week ago at bedtime. It was good – classic pina colada taste with a lean on the sweet pineapple more than anything. It was good but also the typical flavor profile so I don’t necessarily need to get more from HotCups as opposed to another company offering this.

Rooibos hit me first, then caramel, then the jasmine. It’s supposed to be a creme brulee tea and while I can see what they were going for, it misses the mark. I blame the jasmine.

Matcha Latte (sorta) Sipdown (300)

I whisked this in hot water and topped it with milk. I took a couple sips and dumped the rest. These mushroom-infused matchas are not for me. This was better than the other one I tried by Amoda, but it ended up being a loose coconut milk flavor w/some umami notes from the mushroom. Thank you Sil for the chance to try it though since they were intriguing.

It’s a sinkdown! ;)

This is really good. It’s like rich and creamy vanilla pudding, without adding anything at all. I’m a fan. Bumping the rating slightly from 80.

Latte Sipdown (302)

Squeaked in my 28th sipdown. This is leftover from the advent I received late and since it’s coconut, figured it was best to finish it sooner rather than later. It’s a coconut black. Had this 10000x before so it’s nice enough but nothing to write home about.

Matcha Latte Sipdown (303)

Another easy sipdown since these matcha bursts are single serving.

I have decided I like Three 6 Tea’s earl grey flavoring in their matchas, however, I think that’s because it has never been overly strong. As someone who is picky about their bergamot and not a huge lover of it, a subtle note of it is preferred and that’s what I am getting here and in the other earl grey matchas I have had from this company. What I find to be positive, I imagine would be disappointing for others.

With that said, the lack of bergamot mostly means this is just a sweet vanilla matcha, with some citrus top notes. Basically, I think this is what I would have liked DAVIDsTEA’s vanilla matcha to be considering I didn’t love the DAVIDs take on that flavor.

Thank you for sending this my way, Roswell Strange! It was fun to try and not one I would have picked for myself but enjoyable nonetheless. I am glad I tried it because I liked it more than I thought I would but at the end of the day, I don’t need more of this one.

Sipdown (304)

This was a sample in one of my many DAVIDsTEA orders and an easy Sipdown since I’m at 25 empties and trying to stretch it to 28. Feels a bit like cheating but technically counts, right?!

This particular tea I’ve had several times before and it can be quite finicky. Today it’s awesome. Somehow the jasmine and other flavors is reading almost peach like. I don’t know how that’s a thing but it is and it’s good. A light, fresh, and sweet peach cuppa – like fuzzy peaches, without the sour coating.

Cameron B.

I don’t think it’s cheating!

Courtney

I also got fuzzy peaches with this one!

This screams holiday tea to me. I’m getting a lot of orange with a brown sugar cinnamon undertone. I guess that could be orange cinnamon rolls but mostly I though cinnamon orange holiday blend. I guess I’m missing the bready component to truly get cinnamon roll.

drank Strawberry Hibiscus by Wize Monkey

Noticed the Sipdown prompt today was for strawberry day so I grabbed this tea out. I made it iced because that seemed the appropriate way to have this. I don’t like coffee leaf. I think that’s my issue here. It’s got a nice juicy strawberry top note and then the classic coffee leaf profile underneath and that’s distracting. Nevertheless, thank you Roswell Strange for sharing and the chance to try this! I think I like this best of the ones I tried but I just don’t enjoy coffee leaf.

This was a sample in the order that arrived today. I was happy to see it since it is one of her newer teas she mentioned that intrigued me. I made it as a latte and then sent some samples to Sil and Roswell Strange. This looked awesome and super chocolate-y but flavorwise, it was mostly roasted hojicha. The last few sips had chocolate and cream though, which was nice. This was my favorite of the 3 teas I tried from the most recent order so far but this is also not one I need more of. Also, I paired it with the caramel filled stroopwafel-like cookie that Deb sent in the sub box. It was delicious and a fun pairing to the latte.

Silent Kettle

This is a tea that I am super excited to purchase since I enjoyed her cinnamon bread hojicha! :)

Cameron B.

OMG so excited for this! Hojicha all the way!

VariaTEA

If you enjoy hojicha, I think this is a nice option. I am off and on with hojicha so I was fine with the one latte.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
