Sipdown (198)

My siblings and I decided to rewatch the Harry Potter movies before going back to work. Today we have to watch two to make up for lost time due to technical issues the first night. We’re on the Chamber of Secrets right now and I’m watching it with this tea leftover from last year’s Geek + Tea advent calendar.

This tea actually has a great green apple flavour. Not much smoke is left but it still has the faintest campfire apple vibe. I like it a lot but it’s not a great blend for Gryffindor.

Ooh, that sounds so fun! On my way over! :P

VariaTEA

Yay! That would be delightful!

If only, ha ha. ❤

I had never read the books (or watched the movies) but my daughter-in-law really, really loved both, as did two of my daughters. When she found out she was expecting twins, she and my son agreed they would have a HP baby and a Star Wars baby. In order to be a relevant grandma, I read all the books in the space of about two months before the twins were born!

Ashmanra, that’s so wonderful! Hope you enjoyed them. I’m debating rebuying the books since my copies are at my mom’s, who I no longer speak to.

Eggnog Latte Sipdown (199)

This is a classic Christmas tea profile. Spiced orange that pairs perfectly with the eggnog latte prep style. It smelled so cozy and delicious when it was steeping and drinking it now it’s Christmas in a cup. I don’t think I need more of this but I really enjoyed this and it felt perfect for today’s festivities!

Advent Season 2021 Day 25 – MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I opened this and was disappointed because I was like they already gave me this but then I realized that was Butter Brew Number Two. So I was taking my pic and then I dumped the whole glass on the floor. I only got to try a mouthful because of that but it tasted similar to Great Scotch! from the other day. Overall, I was meh about it because of that and mostly sad it was all over the rug.

Advent Season 2021 Day 24

I added a splash of eggnog to this and I don’t think I should have. It’s a more chocolate but slightly watered down version of DAVIDsTEA’s Stormy Night.

Advent Season 2021 Day 23

Drank this last night and it was a slightly cake-y breakfast tea. Brisk black tea first. Vanilla cake batter second. Good but not my favourite cake blend.

Advent Season 2021 Day 24

Made this as an eggnog latte and while it was nice, I think spearmint may be slightly too strong for eggnog. Still, thank you Sil for the chance to try this out. You gave me a lot so it’ll be fun to try it in different ways!

Advent Season 2021 Day 23

I opened this to see if it was a green or black tea and was bowled over by the butterscotch scent. It was pungent since I had a face mask on when I opened the package. That transferred into taste as well but only slightly. Instead this was a butterscotch breakfast tea with thick butterscotch sweetness grounded by a more brisk base tea. 52 Teas made something super similar. Was Beam Me Up Scotty caramel/butterscotch? Maybe that’s the one I’m thinking of.

Advent Season 2021 Day 14

I sort of dropped the ball on wiring notes for these teas since I haven’t seen Nerdfelt before. I drank this. I don’t remember it at all. So, nothing memorable.

Advent Season 2021 Day 13

I made this tea after working late on Monday. I spent the day working basically right next to my kettle and I turned it on a bunch of times but never breaked long enough to make the tea. So I made the tea but then got into baking for the holiday cookie exchange at work. I baked until 1 am but the cookies were delicious and so cute. This tea was not delicious. Hibiscus, cinnamon and chamomile – all things I don’t like much and certainly don’t care for together. I’ve had this flavour combo before and it’s just a warm herbal blend that I feel tends to be the caffeine free option among grocery store brands.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
