Advent Season 2021 Day 6

This smelled deliciously like Blueberry Jam by DAVIDsTEA. However, it’s not that. Instead, it’s more true to the fruit and less jammy. It lacks the sweetness that tea has. So when the comparison fell through I was disappointed at first. However, drinking it and trying to just focus on the tea without holding it up to another, I decided it’s a pretty good blueberry tea. Not too sweet, smooth, a touch brisk but not astringent, and distinctly blueberry.

Advent Season 2021 Day 5

This one smells like vanilla mint and that’s what comes through in taste. It’s really smooth actually and reminds me of Santa’s Secret by DAVIDsTEA. If I pay attention I maybe taste the cardamom but I don’t think it’s really noticeable.

Advent Season 2021 Day 4

Little late reviewing this because yesterday I went venturing way across the city (2.5 hrs on train) to see a friends new house and have a rainbow drink night where we all picked a colour and had to make a cocktail. It was fun because everyone went all out. You can see the pics here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CXG0hD3uC3G/?utm_medium=copy_link

Before that I rushed out the door to do brunch just after I finished drinking my cup of this tea so I didn’t get a chance to do the note. I did post my tea pic though and you can see that here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CXEp_aVuq1D/?utm_medium=copy_link

Taste wise, I feel like this is similar to day 2 in the sense that if you’ve had one pumpkin tea you had them all. Nerdfelt recommends adding a splash of milk and while I don’t usually (latte or bust), I decided to go with it. It had classic pumpkin spice flavour and wasn’t muddied or astringent which is good. But not a standout either.

This is making for a nice eggnog latte. Orange cookie vibes, but creamy and eggnog-y. My brain isn’t capable of a better description right now because work BUT I did get my performance review today and it was super positive feedback which is nice.

Congratulations! That’s always a great feeling. :)

Advent Season 2021 Day 2

This tea has a fun name but a meh taste. It’s the same as any other Rooibos chai out there. Heavy ginger and cinnamon. It was fine. Herbal-ish. Not terrible to have one cup worth but nothing special.

Advent Season 2021 Day 1

The only advent I purchased this year is Nerdfelt teas because I’d never heard of the company before and thought this would be a good way to explore their offerings.

This is a good start because (1) the name made me laugh and (2) the dry leaf smelled awesome. The sample is only about 1 tsp which makes for easy sipdowns but means there wasn’t a second serving I could share or play around with. Oh well.

Taste wise I enjoyed this one. It’s almost jammy in sweetness. Distinct currant but not overly medicinal like currants can often be. I think that’s because it starts as currants but melts more to a generic berry flavour. A touch floral. Smooth. Overall a lovely introduction to the company. I am currently very content :)

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
