Sipdown (218)

Finished this off earlier today while doing some work. Work sucked but this tea was sweet, delicious and comforting.

I picked this as my “spicy” tea for Mastress Alita’s scavenger hunt. Alas, it was not spicy. It wasn’t even really apple. It was a sort of grocery store/dollar store cheap tea in cute packaging. The flavour was a sort of apple but so subtle. Mostly it just didn’t taste like much.

It’s back and I’m excited for my Starbucks dupe iced chai latte.

Iced latte Sipdown (218)

My nephew brought the stomach flu home. I tried initially to fight the nausea with a tea with ginger. That, and even water made me sick. Even gravol didn’t fully help. So it’s been a while since I had tea and the whole time I’ve been readjusting to proper food since getting better, all I’ve wanted was a sweet iced latte. I ordered more of the chai concentrate but it’s not here yet so when I saw this tea, I thought it may have been a good alternative. Spoiler alert: it’s not.

My issue is this is not as sweet as I hoped. I really expected a Deb tea to be heavy on the sweet because usually it is. Granted the chai concentrate has sugar in it, but this has honey and other sweet ingredients. I wanted more maple and more “sticky” (I.e. caramel) but I’m getting chai. As in literal chai because this is tea and cardamom and ginger and cinnamon and not in a lovely spiced chai way but instead a muddied mix of spice. It probably would have been better as a hot latte. As it is, I’m disappointed and thus okay saying goodbye to this one.

I couldn’t think of an apricot tea for Mastress Alita’s scavenger hunt so I made a peach tea instead. This one was never a favourite and today it is coming off a bit soapy. So ultimately it is one I am completely okay with saying goodbye too. Sweet peaches and cream vibe…but with soap today.

This seemed like a pretty obvious choice for a cream flavoured tea for Mastress Alita’s scavenger hunt. And it ended up being a surprise Sipdown. Yay! Thank you Sil for sharing this with me. It’s smooth and nice. I don’t know if I would have gotten cream without knowing the name but the more I drink it, the more I can see it.

drank Orange Cream Green Tea by 52teas

It’s been a hell of a work day/week and since I’ve been struggling to pick teas, I decided to do part of Mastress Akita’s scavenger hunt. And since it’s been shitty, I went with the tea that reminds me of an alcoholic beverage…and then I made the alcoholic beverage to go with it. Both this tea and the drink taste like an orange creamsicle. Obviously the drink was sweeter but both are distinctly orange and vanilla.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
