Iced and Plain Tea Sipdown (219)

This has a really nice raspberry flavour. For the longest time I was trying to place it and it finally dawned on me as I started drinking the iced tea that this is like DAVIDsTEA’s Fantasy Island, minus the coconut. The hot tea, once cool, got bitter so I was worried the iced tea may be bitter as well. It is not. It leans more into the raspberry flavour. It also has some mango. I like this though over time it will blend with all the other decent fruity teas I’ve had.

Iced Latte Sipdown (217)

This is supposed to be caramel and chocolate and walnut. It’s nutty and I get some chocolate. I think it needs sweetness to read caramel though. It’s good but I’ve had better and I’m disappointed it’s not as caramel as I hoped it would be.

drank Wild Honey Matcha by DAVIDsTEA

My smoothie bowl turned into a smoothie turned into a tiny smoothie shot with matcha. Just disaster after disaster so it’s not much but strawberry:banana smoothie mixed with this tastes pretty good at least.

ashmanra

That was a wild ride!

VariaTEA

Yeah, it just kept getting worse but ultimately tasted good

This was definitely better than expected. Smooth. Subtle. Sort of chocolate. Mostly just a pleasant every day easy drinking black tea. One I probably won’t pay much attention to since I tend to drink mostly flavoured so I added it to the SVTTB.

This is another one I’m adding to the SVTTB. It’s nice but I don’t reach for it ever. Smooth with a cocoa undertone. It’s brisk and a touch metallic at times. It’s just not a favourite.

I don’t know why Sil bought this one and then decided to stick me with it. Neither of us really like floral teas so it was an odd choice. That said, always happy to try something new and this was better than expected so thanks for sharing, Sil! I made this as a latte and was partially terrified it would be milk potpourri. However, it wasn’t overly floral given the ingredient list. It was floral but also a touch malty. It was fine and I drank most of the latte. However, I added this to the SVTTB in hopes it finds someone who enjoys floral teas more.

Sil

LOL because try everything?

VariaTEA

We didn’t need to try that

Sil

hahahahahahahaha i suspect it was a sample if i remember right. Also you only rated it a 65 so wasn’t THAT bad :P

VariaTEA

It wasn’t terrible but I wouldn’t have been sad not having it either

VariaTEA

But it’s one more tea to check off the tried list so I’m still grateful you shared…flowers and all :P

Strange VariaTEA TTB: Tea 18

Made this as a latte and the colour is so pretty. However it looks like a CTC so this is just brisk and meh.

Strange VariaTEA TTB: Tea 17

This tea is much better if the two Monarch teas I tried. Maybe because I steeped it for less time?

It’s fruit and nice. Sweet. Not overly floral. Not anything earth shattering. But smooth and overall pleasant.

drank Strawberries & Cream by DAVIDsTEA

Strange VariaTEA TTB: Tea 16

I asked Roswell Strange how she recommends this and she said cold brewed so I did that. I will say this is creamy. And sometimes sweet strawberry, other times more floral. The floral throws it off for me slightly with the cream. Also the stevia. I can see how someone who doesn’t mind stevia would like this though.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
