Classic English Breakfast Black Tea
Our classic breakfast tea is a rich combination of strong, full-bodied and robust teas handpicked from the finest estates of Assam and goes perfectly with a dash of milk and sugar. English Breakfast is among the most popular tea blends in the world. Popularized by the Queen Victoria of England, it is traditionally paired with a hearty English breakfast. Assam is known to produce some of the finest rich bodied black teas and this 100% Assam origin blend demonstrates the notion perfectly. The tea is characteristic of dark black leaves with sprinkles of golden tips. The liquor is bright reddish and offers a delightful woody aroma with hints of chocolate. The flavor is rich, full-bodied and offers suggestions of caramel and cocoa with an exquisite malty background combined with balanced sweetness on the finish. The strength of the brew is exhilarating and energizing. An excellent morning cuppa.

When a company adds the word classic to their product name it makes one wonder if, 1. They did it because it is indeed a classic because it is consumed worldover, 2. Classic to the point of ambiguity, 3. The wet aroma is decent with its woody notes, better then bagged, but still notghing more than classic, 4. The mouth feel is soft, the flavor is perfect for milk / sugar and is classic enough to the point of almost needing it, though I prefer mine without. Unclassic.
I decided to try a black tea from the Vahdam samples today, choosing this one.
I’ve not had a lot of loose leaf black tea before – most of the time when I’ve had a black tea, it’s been bagged and most of the time when I’ve had loose leaf tea it’s been a green or herbal tea. With a bag I often just left it in for a second or two before disposing of the bag, which meant a rather weak taste.
This tea tastes fine, it has a malty flavour, it has a bit of an aftertaste which lingers for a few seconds after a sip. It’s not one of my favourites so far, but it is drinkable. I think the next time I drink this, I’ll steep it for three rather than four minutes.

Another from the Vahdam Tea Company black tea sampler in the quest for a tea to have as my daily drinker. Of the teas I’ve tried thus far from both Upton and Vadham I like this one the best so far. Rich maltiness and a nice thick mouth feel. Definite notes of caramel and cocoa. With a little milk it becomes a wholly satisfying morning tea for me. Definitely at the right price point for a daily drinker too. $5.50 per 100 g, or $0.055 per g.
First brewed with 3g of tea in 300 ml at just under boiling for five minutes. Also did a cup with 4 g too. The extra gram added a bit of astringency.
