I was drinking this yesterday with honey but it’s caffeine free and I have a lot of it. It was actually quite good both with and without the honey. Alas, today the sore throat has turned into a full on cold so I am still drinking this with honey, except now I have that annoying void in taste from the cold. Boo.

This was an easy sipdown of a mediocre tea so I just went for it.

Throat is still store so I am gargling with salt water, taking EmergenC, and trying to stay hydrated while drinking a lot of honey. That’s where this tea comes in. This tea that I am trying for the first time and really do not like. I tried it first without the honey and mostly got sage, which could be a plus for some but isn’t for me. The honey rounds it out a little and brings out some lemon but tbh, this tastes a little bit like the earthy flavor of weed and I am not into it at all. I don’t know why that’s what is coming across but it is and I don’t like it so the other couple of packages are going into my swap box.

I actually drank this one today too! I always pick this one as a free sample from DT because I love the sweet lemon mixed with the sage. Different tastes, I guess!

VariaTEA

Lol to me it was all sorts of weird but that’s why swaps work so well and why I don’t feel terrible when I give people tea I hate.

I feel the same way! There was this one herbal chai that tasted so horrible to me, I called it the fish tea since that’s what it tasted like. Yet my dad always requested the fish tea!

This was always just ok so I figured I should finish it off before the coconut spoiled

I always forget about the samples from Evol Ving Ness which are tucked away in a shoebox. However, today I was in search of a tea to pair with some of the goods from the One of a Kind show for my tea photo. This jumped out as something that would go nicely with the lemon squares I got. Citrus tea and citrus snack can’t go wrong. It had the added benefit of likely going well with honey and since I’ve felt off all day, tea and honey seemed like a good plan.

My first sips without honey we’re pretty underwhelming. I really got no flavour from it. I blame age…or my storage or both. Perhaps it wasn’t steeped long enough. I blame myself for this being bland.

I added in a generous squeeze or two of honey and now it just tastes like a honeyed black tea: Nothing special but it’s soothing.

drank Bubblegum by Dollar Tea Club

This did not seem promising when I opened it and it lacked the actual gum balls that Necessiteas’ bubble gum tea had. It also smelled a bit off. I just did not think it would achieve the same bubble gum flavour I enjoyed in the Necessiteas blend.

Steeped this had the classic hibby redness and a whole lot of hibby flavour. Hibiscus and waxiness. I am not digging this all that much. Hopefully Roswell Strange can make the last serving of this work for her.

This was a sample from Bird and Blend that I was happy to revisit. Sipped on it as I ate an overpriced square donut from a place in Toronto. I was happy with one of the things I was consuming and disappointed by the other.

Sil

lol i saw the square donuts on insta….seems like an interesting gimmick

VariaTEA

They’re expensive af and definitely not worth it. Not to mention they are cooked in peanut oil and this rule out a large demographic

Sil

Weird. You need to come to beeechwood. So good. And vegan!

I completely forgot about this sample from Sororitea Sisters and so it’s been hanging out in a ziploc, hidden in my stash, for years. As a result, this doesn’t taste like much. It seemed to have potential though. Sad…

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
