This tea has become my go-to while I have been sick. I am basically through my 50 grams and I even have been resteeping it.

With my cold and funky tastebuds, I was sad to be starting my tea advent calendar today in fear that it would be a blend I want to try and things would be wonky. Thankfully, this is a blend I have had before and never truly cared for all that much so I am okay sipping on it, funky tastebuds and all.

With that said, something is really funky here b/c I am getting licorice. Licorice, which should NOT be here, and wafer, which should. Not loving it but then again, I never really did.

I think this is the last of the teas Arby shared with me and I decided to break it out to go with a ruby chocolate bar I picked up at the One of a Kind show while I take a study break. Weirdly enough, I can taste the rose here. I guess those taste receptors are working. Unfortunately the rose with the floral oolong is trending toward perfume.

I am feeling a lot better but my tastebuds are still really off b/c this tea from Sil is tasting really gross. I have had it before and know it’s good so I am blaming the cold.

:( Sorry you’re not feeling well.

VariaTEA

Thank you. I am feeling much better than I was…for some reason colds like to mess with my tastebuds and cause problems even after I start feeling normal again.

When air (or some of the scent particles in the air) doesn’t get to your olfactory nerve, your sense of taste gets off. Individual flavors are made possible by your sense of smell. Hopefully it will clear up soon and you’ll get back to enjoying your teas like you did before.

When I’m not feeling well, my taste buds are like that too. I usually just drink tea with ginger/honey crystals. The tea is usually just an unflavored black tea – when I’m sick all I really taste is the ginger anyway and the ginger helps clear my head and sinuses for a little while at least. I hope you get to feeling better soon!

I’m glad you’re feeling better, VariaTEA. Get well 100% soon! Yeah, my tastebuds are totally off when I’m sick too. It sucks.

I am going to blame being sick and my weird taste buds b/c while this tastes slightly like the raspberry sauce in a peach melba, it mostly tastes like cherry cough syrup thanks to that raspberry combining with the rooibos base.

Sipdown

I found this in my stash and though I think I set it aside for a swap, I decided to just finish it off. However, since I set it aside, it was not in my “cupboard” so no decrease in numbers…boo.

While I don’t recall enjoying this much the last time I had it, with honey it is actually quite nice. Spiced orange and honey are a nice combination. Not my favorite by a long shot but since it is caffeine free, I was glad to change up from the Lemon Cream Rooibos I have been resteeping like crazy.

This is a lot of sweet from the honey and then mint underneath. I don’t mind it but this was never a favourite so I am ok saying goodbye.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
