6444 Tasting Notes
This smelled weird and Roswell Strange who usually finds the good in teas rated this a 21, so I was a bit hesitant about it. Luckily we had apple juice lying around the house so I used a bit of hot water to dissolve some of the powder and then topped it with the juice.
This tastes fine but it mostly tastes like apple juice. A lot of the powder settled to the bottom and that last sip was a whole lot of earthy turmeric nope. So I guess ultimately I’m a fan of apple juice, not this. Going to put the rest into my swap box.
When making the last batch of cupcakes, my sister and I made a mistake with our buttercream frosting when we added raspberry purée that was too cold to the mixer and it caused the butter to seize and our buttercream for lumpy. I didn’t think it was that bad until I iced the cupcakes and saw all the bits but at that point it was too late to fix. However, I was mad so my sister suggested we make other cupcakes to redeem ourselves.
Today, we decided to make chocolate cream cheese frosted banana cupcakes filled with dulce de leche. The recipe was a lot less involved than the other ones we made and ended up tasting and looking much better. And we didn’t mess up the frosting so yay! The only issue with these is they are chocolate frosting and I don’t have my usual decorating stuff so with my limited options, the frosting does look slightly poop-like. Anyways, as per usual, I had to find the right tea to go with the cupcakes and this sample from Roswell Strange called to me. It’s very chocolate-y which is what you’d want from a tea called death by cocoa but I think next to the super rich chocolate cream cheese frosting, this is a little meh. Could be nice when you want chocolate and don’t have it though.
Tea Lemonade Sipdown (277)
I had this the other day as a tea lemonade and really enjoyed it. Since I am considering a DAVIDs order for certain teas I want to pick up, I wanted to make sure that wasn’t a one-off experience before I added this to my cart. I am happy to say it wasn’t because this made for yet another awesome tea lemonade experience with a whole whack of melon sweetness up front. Yum!
Thank you Cameron B for sharing this with me!
I broke out this sample today to go with a honey beer bread I made. However, dinner ended up being a lot earlier than I expected so I didn’t get a lot of time to enjoy this.
Both the bread and this had a nice honey sweetness but if I am being honest, I was a lot more interested in trying the bread in the moment I got before dinner=. As such, while I know I liked this, I couldn’t say why and am glad I have another serving of this to try again.
As for the bread, it was crazy easy to make but had an awesome dense and spongey texture. I totally recommend the recipe: https://www.gimmesomeoven.com/honey-beer-bread/

Latte Sipdown (278)
This makes a really nice latte, though flavor wise it is not too different than the regular hot tea. It’s still got the doughy/bready quality with cinnamon and brown sugar notes. It’s perfectly capturing monkey bread.
Again, caramel isn’t very prominent but the latte is slightly sweeter than the regular tea. With that said, the sweeter is more like a sweet cinnamon than a caramel. It’s like the cinnamon sugar and butter mixture you’d find in a cinnamon bun actually.
Even without picking up on any caramel, I enjoy this greatly as a monkey bread tea so I upped my rating from 74.
I reviewed my spreadsheet of teas and then realized that somehow I had more teas in my steepster cupboard than I had on the spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is a more thorough inventory of what I own so I realized something was off and after reviewing my cupboard, it would seem there was about 9-10 teas that I managed to not remove from my cupboard, despite finishing them off. Oops. I think it is fixed now though.
Most mornings I have been having either a matcha smoothie or a plain black tea and so around 3 pm today when I realized I have had 0 caffeine, I decided it was about time to make a cup of something. None of my blacks were appealing to me so I went to the next best thing.
This tea doesn’t get as much attention as it deserves because every cup I have of it is great. Yet I don’t have it as often as I should. I feel like that sorta just comes with the territory of having a lot of teas though. This is cup is no exception. Malty, smooth, a bit of hay and some corn. I am enjoying it a great deal since it has nice flavors of white teas combined with the robustness/maltiness of a good black tea.
Kenya Rhino from What-Cha is the most amazing white tea I have ever had! Can’t wait to place another order!
This is one of my favourites, but like you I have a habit to dismiss it. Always exciting to “rediscover” every 2-3 months that I have 100g/3.5oz at the back of my cupboard. Strange that I always notice when I have none though :P
This one is quite popular based on the couple of people that rated it and to be honest I can see why. I mixed it into hot frothed milk and there is a lot of sweet peppermint here. However, I think I just don’t like rooibos “matcha” because I’m not loving this one. It’s the flavor beyond peppermint that I am not liking. This got tossed into the swap box.
