1598 Tasting Notes
I only had a sample of this, so I decided to save it for my 1-Year Steepster Anniversary: THAT’S TODAY! :O
I can’t believe it’s only been a year – this site, and the people on it, have become such a big part of my life. I’ve said this before, but I’m generally on here before facebook or twitter and I try to constantly stay up to date with it. I’ve learned so much, met a lot of great people and tasted roughly 480 teas. Wow. That’s… more than one a day. :O
So I thought I would take the time to do this one properly, and steep the entire pack in my little gongfu for 10 seconds as advised.
It smells amazing. Rich cocoa notes, malt and a bit of caramel sweetness. It tastes pretty similar as well! I’ll see how many steeps I can go through of this throughout the day and add to this as I go.
1-3: Very strong cocoa notes, with malt and caramel. It dominates my mouth – almost makes me think I’m eating something instead of just drinking.
4-6: Still good, but far less cocoa with each steep.
Preparation
This is so perfect today with a dash if milk and sugar. So warm and comforting! I thought I had a lifetime supply of this, but it might not last the winter.
I’m having such an awesome weekend too. Today we are relaxing by reading and computer games. We’re totally dystopian with Prison Architect and Papers Please on the computer, while I read some angsty fic.
I think you could order direct from them for $10 shipping? I don’t know if it’s worth it though. Frankly, I’ve been disappointed with a lot of their teas as they seem to get astringent easily (unless you like adding milk – then you’d be fine!)
This was supposed to be my homesick blend, but I’m not actually homesick – I just left it out of my storage so it was easy to grab and I wanted to get closer to sip-down because the type of bag it’s in doesn’t fit in as well with the foil zips everything else is in.
I oversteeped it. It’s not my fault. (Well… it is) I was looking at a Pride&Prejudice card game kickstarter that is super adorable. Even if I never play it, it’s totally worth $5 for the digital version that I can look at. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1898617831/marrying-mr-darcy-the-pride-and-prejudice-card-gam
Also, this Werewolf card game looks really awesome too: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1680252891/werewolf?ref=thanks
Man, I can see how people can get sucked into so many awesome projects…
oh! And this tea still tastes ok! WIN! I have no idea how long I steeped it but it was definitely over 5 minutes!
Preparation
I know! I really like them too! I bought the P&P game for $5. I’m tempted to do the same for the werewolf one too. But… 7 people? That’s hard to arrange! Still, I could buy it for the cool art…
This is awesome with brown sugar – it absolutely makes the flavours pop!
I just had some of this tea but with cream. I never use sugar in tea but I bet it would be good in this – more like sweet pumpkin pie.
Mmmm. Yeah maple would probably be awesome. I don’t know if I’ve seen brown sugar bars before though.
The ones I have seen were at Chinese grocery stores. I think it is probably just hardened brown sugar and I imagine you just break off a piece to use.
So we’re awake and the heat isn’t running yet and I’m being a baby and feeling cold. I think the people upstairs turned it off when they were gone for a week and I have no idea how to turn it back on. Hopefully now that they’re back they figure it out?
Either way, as soon as I woke up I needed tea – ANY tea – just to feel warm. :) The fruit in this one is just perfect actually with what I was craving, even though I didn’t know it!
It’s turkey day today and we’re having two people over, with a Skype conversation to a third. I’m looking forward to it. It’s funny because I never would have thought that I’d grow up to like doing the cooking etc, but I do. Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving!
I think I’m going to fire up Little Inferno on Steam and throw things into a fireplace. That’ll warm me up too?
happy turkey day…. i don’t do much until i have a cup of tea either. i like the cold though, but i carry on a bit about the heat. lol
This isn’t so great with milk and sugar. It’s best on its own.
i beg to differ!! sugar, yes…. cream, yes….. 7 minute steep and a wide awake james in class? absolutely!
i consider cream sugar as plain… plain old comfort! =0P like when it’s cold, and rainy and you’re studying for midterms that you’re afraid you may flop.
i was amazed. the first time was by accident. it doesn’t go bitter! i use a heaping tablespoon for a 16 ounce tea cup. (exceptionally robust no matter how you look at it!!!)
Quick note while we game this afternoon.
This re-blend is tasty! It seems more buttery than I remember, but still good.
I just finished two cups of Laoshan Black and hadn’t had enough black tea, so I went immediately to this. The contrast is easier to discern. The PTA is sweeter, brisker, yet also slightly astringent. This is a lovely tra.
Too bad I’m out now.
J says that even if I’m not working by November (and I better be?) that we can justify $100 for Black Friday sales! So, I’m making that public so neither if us forget in a month. Bwahaha
Terri – i started a tea fund. I think though, my limit will be have i just increased my cupboard by 100+ by the time everything gets to me? because i’ve been close to 300 before and that’s my breaking point when i start to feel overwhelmed lol
Right! A few months ago I was up around 350, but that was after tea trades with you, Nofar, TTB, etc. That’s just too much tea, LOL. It feels good to be around 220 right now, although I still haven’t gotten the box you sent yet, or my yunnan sourcing order (placed before oct 1st! I’m really being good!), or the next BBB Box. I’m really really trying to be a good girl, lol, & also trying to target some teas for sipdown! I’d still like to get down to 200 by Black Friday!
need to let you try the one from tealux that i love.. no atrificial flavouring and possibly more chocolatey than this one.. i need to do a comparison once i get around to placing my tealux order heh
Oooh – sounds interesting!
Yup!
