1598 Tasting Notes
Oh, what have I done?
Tealizzy told me that this one might get discontinued and then I kept thinking about it, and … well I just bought the 8.8oz thingy online for $18.

I’ll put it in my 7 oz Read My Lips tin once I drink it down a bit more.
CHAroma….only if you buy into them haha. I look at those sales as a chance to NOT buy the tea that i won’t be able to get every again heh
You’ll enjoy it! It’ll keep you warm all winter, especially since the winter collection isn’t that great. ;)
Well, there’s a reason I track my tea collection by weight as well as number! And I was a bit disappointed with the winter teas I tried so far, so I wanted this to make up for it. Like Tealizzy says, it’ll keep me cozy all winter. :)
Another sipdown! (96)
I find this one has a mild floral taste, a bit of grassiness and a lot of cream to it. It seems like this milk oolong is stronger some of the other unflavoured milk oolongs I’ve had. It’s funny, because when I had it before I didn’t get much cream, but this time I did. Maybe I’m getting better at detecting notes?
Maybe?
This is surprising to me, but I guess I like oolongs now. That’s what happens when you drink one each day for a few weeks, I guess. :P I still can’t say much about them, and remember exactly which one is which, but I do find myself craving one first thing in the morning as a gentler wake me up.
I even chose this over trying new teas from DAVIDsTEA. :P
So I’ll definitely have to order something from Teavivre. I just don’t know which oolong I’ll want. And then maybe I’ll order a few more samples to help me figure out what I like. :)
Preparation
I had to kind of warm up to oolongs, didn’t like them when I was younger. Flash forward to the past few weeks, it’s almost all I’ve been drinking.
Agreed. I really really didn’t like oolong until very recently, and it started towards the green end and has slowly been creeping over to the roastier side. Oolong drift!
Oolong drift – I love that term. :)
Glad to see I’m not the only one. Did you guys end up getting the samples from Teavivre when they had them for $8?
Alas no! (But I do really dig this oolong, think it was one of the ones that really convinced me.) Lately, and I know this isn’t tea snob popular but, I’m finding oolongs make a much better base for additional flavors than black tea. I love coconut and milk oolongs (flavored or natural), and really fruity and tropical flavored ones as well.
I’m trying to wait ‘til I have a huge order ready for Teavivre, ’cause Teavivre packages are guaranteed to be ones I have to go to the post office to pick up and I’m so very lazy about that stuff. I’ve had a handful of their oolongs in sample size though…this was one of my favorites along with, IIRC, a TGY (and man, I used to really dislike all the Wuyi oolongs).
got cut off somehow, huh. I used to really dislike all the Wuyi oolongs but IIRC Teavivre’s was one I didn’t mind too much and I’d be curious about trying it again and seeing if I’ve changed.
Yeah, I hate how my post office guy doesn’t EVEN TRY to deliver my Teavivre packages. It’s not a huge deal, but if I don’t get a ride it’s a half hour walk and that won’t be fun in the winter. I’d better order soon, or in the spring.
Yeah I bought a bunch of the samples when they were having the oolong sale, still have a couple I need to open and try.
I wasn’t able to fully review this before it cooled down, but I’m happy with this. Happy that I have 50g, but not sure that I’ll miss it once it’s gone.
It’s slightly spicy, with a nice cake-y background (yet without the oily aftertaste I got from Coffee Cake and Red Velvet Cake), and the ginger is nicely pronounced. I feel like I should add sugar to this one, or steep it longer to make the flavours pop more. I want MORE spice.
Preparation
This smells so rich and dark and amazing. I don’t even want to sip it – just smell it all evening. But that would be a waste, wouldn’t it? I only bought 15g of this, which might end up being 2 cups, and that probably won’t be enough, but this one was more expensive than the rest…
First sip? YES. I instantly love this much more than the Coffee Cake. It’s just BAMMM. Rich chocolate and hazelnut and sweet sweetness. I guess there’s oolong under here? Mostly I’m tasting hot liquid nutella with a tiny bit of an odd aftertaste that I can’t identify, but do not mind.
Drat. Now I wish I’d grabbed more than 15g. Suppose that’s move incentive to find high paying work. :P
Preparation
Is 5 minutes at boiling your preferred steeping time for oolongs, or is it DT oolongs, or was it just this oolong? I figured it would be quicker to ask than go through all your oolong tasting notes. =)
I usually do boilings at a little less, but I typically just go by the instructions. It said to steep 5 min at 95, so I thought I’d do what I was told, at least for the first time.
What temp do you usually do it at?
Thank you!
I always follow the instructions, but if it’s a tea sans instructions, I tend to – by default – do it the Lupicia way; full boil at 1.5-2 minutes. Then again, they’re all very green oolongs, so I’d probably reconsider if I stumbled over an unidentified black oolong blend.
The aftertaste is the licorice root, btw. It’s kind of sweet, in the front of your mouth? I can’t stand it, sadly, and I had such high hopes for this one.
Yeah. I ended up not resteeping it, which isn’t the best sign when I only have enough left for one more cup. The hazelnut was just so strong/strange.
I picked up about 25 g of this one and a few of the others – I am excited to try it…damn power going out and hindering my tea tasting ability :P
And I definitely get what you mean about being excitable on launch day…At midnight I was checking out David’s website to see the new flavors
Hahahah. Yeah I did the same – and then I made a spreadsheet with the prices so I could decide how much of everything to buy beforehand. :)
I just remember buying all the FALL teas and being OMG OMG these are great, and then a few days after was just… oh, why did I say that. /0\ So I’m trying to be cautious.
This is the first from the Winter Collection that I decided to sample – I didn’t want an herbal so that limited me to 2 choices.
Side note: there are duplicate entries for all these teas and it’s making crazy! (ok, enough ranting).
I’m definitely getting cake from this tea. It smells delicious but I was completely distracted by this odd oily flavour because it was so damn familiar, and then I realized that this tea has the same cake flavoring as Red Velvet Cake. This tea is very similar, except it is lighter, and fruitier with the cherry and pineapple. I like it, but it also reminds me of dirt.
I realize that isn’t a ringing endorsement. Ha. I’m resteeping this now and will update if necessary.
Hmm. Red Velvet Cake may be what it’s reminding me of too. But not in an oily way. More of an artificial cherry way…
If you’re comparing it to Red Velvet Cake, then I could see it being similar to DTT’s Pineapple Upside Down Cake?
It kind of is, but DTT PUC is better. I think. It’s been a while. There’s something weird with this one.
This is so smooth and fragrant and relaxing. I didn’t think I’d care for it because of the jasmine, but when I’m in the mood for it, I’m in the mood for it. I’m happy I got this sample from Verdant, even if I forgot about it for 6 months…
I drank a whole teapot of this over the course of the evening.
I nearly reached for Tea Spot’s Bolder Breakfast, or A&D’s Tiger Assam, but I wanted something gentler – this was it! I just love this one.
It’s Halloween! I’m pretty excited you guys, ngl. I made a little beard for my daughter so she can dress up as her dad but she doesn’t like how it tickles and won’t even let me tie it on. So her backup costume is a slightly too small monster outfit that a friend bought her last year! We’re going to take her to a nearby mall for indoor trick or treating which sounds like a good way to do it for her first time.
Also, I’m getting free candy out of this. :) What kind of parent would I be if I like a 17 month old eat tons of candY? Bwahahaha.
OK, the idea of a little girl dressing up as her dad has got to be the most adorable thing I’ve heard. Too bad she won’t wear the beard! But at least both of you get to go trick-or-treating. :D
