467 Tasting Notes
I found the most exciting new coffee/tea shop ever!!!!! I drove by a shop about 3 miles from my house and noticed a new sign…. The Blue Box Cafe. I say to my self… Oh, how funny? Like Doctor Who. But then I go, sure it is… here in Elgin. Well guess what, it is a Doctor Who themed tea/coffee shop!!! Doctor Who and Tea… what could be better! This looks like my new obsession!
Well my cup of tea could have been better. Not much flavor, no bergamot. But they have other loose leaf teas, so I’ll try some more.
They have a nice selection of pastry, salads and sandwiches. Nothing looked Weight Watchers friendly, but I think I’ll find something I can eat without so many calories.
I’m sure I’ll find my way there, frequently! :DI found a neighbor who is into tea!!!!!! We’ve swapped a few teas and drank some tea this afternoon out on my screened porch and watched the wildlife out on the pond. It was truly a wonderful day.
The tea was an interring mix of curled up leaves, dried seeds(?) or berries, fluffy stuff that I can’t think how to describe. It has an unexpectedly vegetal scent. Maybe I should get out a thesaurus. The web site does not say what is in the tea.
I followed the directions my friend gave me. It seemed like a short steep for an herbal. It has a vegetal taste and virtually no berry taste (to me, but I have a slightly stuffed up nose due to allergies). There is no predominant flavor. Actually there is very little flavor at all.
The company is an herb farm in Illinois . It looks like it has a lot of nice herbs, teas and products. It’s very much a mom and pop type place.
I feel bad that that I don’t like the tea, as I would prefer to give them a high rating. I always want to support small businesses. I’d like to try some of their other things but I don’t know…. It’s only about an hour away. Maybe my friend and I will have an outing so I can try some more of their products.
Preparation
Awesome flavors, well balanced, with a nice black base. I love a chocolate tea with some real body to it. So often the chocolate seems like a afterthought. The leaves seem resteepable; dare I try when it is already after 5 pm. I’m going to throw caution to the wind and have some more!
Thank you mj1851 for a sample of this tea. I don’t know how you let this one out of your hands. It was very generous of you to share such a truly excellent tea!
I resteeped this tea this morning. Awesome! I was afraid it would water down too much. The chocolate almond remained beautifully. I plans to get more of this for my cupboard!
Flavors: Almond, Chocolate
Preparation
I have been drinking Sleepytime for quite awhile and thought I’d try this one. I don’t know if the echinacea will actually help the immune system but , eh, why not! Tastes pretty much like Sleepytime. I don’t know if I sense any real difference. I have a box, i’m sure I’ll drink it all up. I added Vanilla Stevia and it is suddenly wonderful.
I need to drink a bunch of this to try to counteract all the mate I had today. Bad Girl! But that Raspberry Riot Lemon Mate was so perfect, I just kept refilling the glass.
Preparation
The scent was so awful that the employee warned the other employees that she was opening the canister. They moved off to the far end of the store. That was a pretty good indication of what I would think of this tea. I took a brief smell I thought maybe it would brew up better. I asked her to brew me a sample and the other employees practically left the store. Needless to say, one sip and it went in the trash. Who came up with this blend? Who was on the test panel? Were they all seriously drunk or high?
The main taste was tomato! Ewwwww… It contained Apple Pieces, Beet Root Pieces, Carrot, Cinnamon, Dried Tomato, Hibiscus Blossoms, Natural And Artificial Flavouring, Orange Pieces, Raisins.
I cold brewed this tea, 12 tsps. for 8 cups. Left it in the refrigerator for 12 hours. Beautiful dark pink. Nice aroma. As I sip on this cool glass as deliciousness, I taste the raspberry and lemon. No taste from the mate but that’s okay; I’ll get my mate flavor from some other teas. I put in some Stevia which drops the tartness down to a level that I can really love. Very refreshing on a nice warm summer day.
Went to my weekly Weight Watcher’s meeting today; Down another 1.2 lbs. ! Now to just keep it off. I have several weddings and family events with lots and lots of food! Resist Carol, resist! I’ll take iced tea with me but its hard to not eat the goodies.
Flavors: Lemon Zest, Raspberry
Thank you Ost! I am enjoying this tea as I sit inside watching a classic Doctor Who (Pyramid of Mars) on a rainy afternoon. What a lovely cuppa! The cup of tea is a lovely red full of promise and fun. It has a nice red velvet flavor but I’m not getting the frosting which is one of my favorite parts. Altogether, a nice tea which I will pick up and keep in my cupboard!
The dry mix certainly has a nice roasted marshmallow scent. Makes me think I’m sitting by the campfire. I am sitting on my screened porch with a candle but it should be a woodsy smokey scented candle to enhance the mood. Tea is calm and tasty. Really a good sit back and relax tea for me! This could be like s’mores if it had chocolate :D
My thanks to the lovely Ost for her swap package of delicious looking dessert teas.
Flavors: Coconut, Marshmallow
This sounds awesome! I bet it’s so cute!!
Ahhh that sounds amazing! :D Bummer that the tea sucked though.
An EG without any Bergemot?! That’s weird…I wonder if maybe the tea hadn’t been stored properly or something.
That’s what think… poor storage or old tea. I talked with the owner, in general, not specifically about tea and he was so proud of his loose leaf tea. I didn’t have the heart to tell him. Maybe after I get to know him better I can make some suggestions. I already gave him a bunch of Doctor Who books for display so we are developing a nice relationship. Their chai tea latte is available with almond, soy or regular milk so I can save a few calories.
