467 Tasting Notes
Thanks to Rebekah Elaine for the Birthday Cake from David’s and thanks to Arshness for the Adagio Birthday Tea! I wanted to compare the two teas because I had them separately and wondered what they tasted like in a side by side comparison. Well, both are yummy. The Birthday Cake is a rooibos which means i can drink it anytime. Not a bad thing. The dry tea is lovely with adorable little sprinkles. Taste is good with a nice vanilla cake/creamy icing /sprinkles flavor. Gosh It takes just like a birthday cake!
The Birthday Tea from Adagio is also good. It has a black tea base. The tea isn’t quite as cute as Birthday Cake but it is still fun. The black tea seems just a little bitter compared with the rooibos. Taste is a bit astringent at the end. Still an enjoyable cup but I think I prefer the Birthday Cake from David’s.
I am totally addicted to this tea! I did a 1.5 mile walk this morning before it got too hot. I thought about this tea waiting for me at home. I have taken to adding either a couple drops of hazelnut stevia or chocolate stevia to change it up. I like it plain or with a little stevia but enjoy the variety of the other flavors.
The dry aroma was great. Lovely almond. I brewed it according to the directions on the baggie. 3-5 minutes, I chose 4 min. I found it rather astringent/bitter. The almond came through more in the aroma in the back of the mouth rather than in the taste. I see that other people recommend a 8 minute steep. I have enough for another cup so I’ll try it again.
I over indulged (but fruit salad, veggies and chicken breast ) at lunch time and I need something for my little tummy. There has been an evil thread lately about chocolate (sigh) so i was thinking chocolate and mint Well, how about that… Chocolate Mint and I hadn’t even tried it yet. It’s very tasty and doing just the trick for my tummy. The chocolate isn’t predominate but it is present. Very relaxing cuppa.

I have a lovely sample of plain matcha from Red Leaf Tea. Unfortunately, I’ve found that I really don’t like plain matcha. However, I really like flavored matcha lattes. I’ve been making mine with plain almond milk and adding a little bit of flavoring. Today I used chocolate and hazelnut. I poured it over a little ice and I’m in heaven! I’ve had two of them today! (How do you make a guilty face?)
We are redoing the bathroom floor. Today we are pulling up the tiles and the backing board. Ugh! Not fun! About half way through job I took a break and had my first latte. Super-energizing! Worked some more… had the second latte! Oh, I feel good! Maybe I should just live on lattes!
Flavors: Chocolate, Hazelnut
Hello Mint! That’s all I could think to say as I opened the tin. Wow! I do smell some chocolate. It is an agreeable scent. The tea is a little weak. However, I used my miracle flavoring (Chocolate Stevia drops) to make it awesome. I don’t know if I’ll buy it again but i will certainly finish up this tin with happiness in my mouth!
Is there a big difference between Harney and Sons loose leaf and sachet? I’ve basically only had sachets and I’ve enjoyed them. I can buy the sachets locally and I’m trying not to buy online. (I spend way to much when I do it online.:( I do much better when I have to pay actual cash for my teas.)
I’m wondering if this tea would have been better in loose leaf form. Maybe I should have thrown in another sachet…

Love the name! Even though it is a black tea, all I taste is fruity goodness. A fruity melange of flavors balance so that I don’t taste a predominate flavor.

I’m really enjoying a nice cup of this even on a hot day. Funny how that is somedays. I read several notes saying they thought it was weak. So I used 4 bags with 3 cups of water for 6 minutes. Perfect. I always use a bit a vanilla stevia with chocolate teas and this was no exception. The beet root gives it a nice reddish color like red velvet cake. No creamy frosting :( But I’m not going to count off for that. Very enjoyable.
This is a nice enough oolong but nothing to be excited about. It has some almond flavors but nothing it wasn’t really satisfying. Sort of a run of the mill oolong tea.
Thank you to Lariel for this tea!

Adagio’s Almond Oolong is really strong Almond flavor and tastes really nice. :) I could send you some next time we swap if you want?
I love this tea. I’m glad they decided to keep it around, even after discontinuing their other two cake-themed teas (ice cream cake and chocolate cake)!
