467 Tasting Notes
Another cup of some nice almond oolong! Calm, peaceful. It goes well with the rest of my day.
Tomorrow I go over and help my blind friend with moving. Their house was foreclosed on, she went blind (she has had some improvement since then) was taken off of disability, forced to go back to work as a teacher (even though she can’t read without machines and can’t see to the other side of the classroom) and her husband had a nervous breakdown and quit his job as a minister and now works a minimum wage job all in the last two years. And of course, she can’t drive.
My life is so easy. I am continually thankful!
I am sitting out on my lovely screened porch drinking a cuppa Birthday Cake from Rebekah Elaine. Beautiful day in the upper 70’s. The pond outside is active with an egret and two great blue herons. The tree nearby has a goldfinch nest and they are singing up a storm. Mother and Father Goose are walking with their ten goslings. What could be more perfect. Love this tea! Very much a dessert tea. The sprinkles in the dry mix are cute an cheerful. How they get that cake element in there I have no idea but I taste it. No caffeine so I don’t know if I will get much done today. I might just sit and read and drink tea!
Mmm… Birthday Cake. I have Birthday Tea by Adagio (also has colorful sprinkles in the mix) I wonder how Davids’ variant compares. I LOVE my birthday tea :)
I’ve only had the the David’s so I can’t tell you. Maybe I’ll keep the last bit of what I have and then if I ever get a chance to try it, I’ll post it.
When looking at previous tasting notes, I noticed people either hate it or like it, not many in-between I made it both hot and cold brewed. I liked it both ways.I tend to overleaf all my herbals and that seems to work well for this. I lightly sweetened it which dropped the cinnamon a bit and brought up the plum. Yes, the cinnamon is strong but I don’t mind. It brings it to a nice bold flavor. I love herbals that have some punch for later in the day. Too often they are a little bland.
Flavors: Cinnamon, Hibiscus, Plum
Preparation
I find it funny that you sweetened this because I didn’t and still found it way way way to sweet. I loved the plum flavor and the cinnamon, but I couldn’t get past the sweet.
My daughter complain of the same thing… They say that I like me tea cloyingly sweet. They won’t let me pour a cup for them anymore. ;-p Maybe it’s because I use my teas in place of desserts and sweets. I have lost a lot of weight (28 lbs in the last year!) so I guess it works for me. :-D
Lovely looking tea when dry. Scent is fruity and somewhat rose-like. Brews a lovely pink. Taste… not so exciting. I’m going to adding it to some other teas and see what I can get.

I’ve read several reviews of this one and it sounded good. I haven’t had much luck with watermelon teas, its a hard thing to duplicate since it has such a delicate flavor. The only other one I’ve had was the Watermelon Mint Chiller from Teavana. Not a favorite.
This one has a delicate watermelon flavor that I am really enjoying. The Teavana watermelon was an iced/cold brewed tea and maybe I under leafed it. This one I only had enough for a cup of hot tea. I’d like to get some more and try it as a cold brew. It might bring out the watermelon even more. I really think I will order this one.
Preparation
I made a pitcher of this as a cold brew. Yummiest iced tea I’ve had in along time! It took a while to give me the expected boost but maybe it was because I was extra sleepy. We kept getting phone calls around 4:30 am. Wrong number! Of course, as a mother I really worry about a phone call in the middle of the night… Well after the first call, I didn’t have to worry about that. The person calling was hanging up before we could straighten out what number they thought the were calling. ANNOYING!
I brewed this up using 5 bags and 6 cups of water for 12 hours. Added a couple drops of Stevia.
I had high expectations for this tea. I mean really, almonds + coconuts should equal really good. Well, it’s OK but not as yummy as I was hoping for. I taste some coconut and almond cookie but doesn’t satisfy me like some other dessert teas.
Flavors: Almond, Coconut
I love almond and amaretto! This has a most wonderful scent. It smells like …. wait for it… amaretto. If you enjoy amaretto this could be the tea for you. I used to have an amaretto over ice in the evenings (stopped since being on Weight Watchers) so this is an excellent replacement. I love that it is herbal so I can drink it at night.
I believe thanks go out to Nicole for this terrific sample.
This is one that I would like to get and keep in my cupboard.

I have never had a bubble tea before. I was on an architectural tour in Chicago. We stopped at the French Marketfor a bit. Of course, I zoomed in on the shop selling tea. They had too many choices of loose leaf to make a decision quickly so instead I chose to try a bubble tea. I got a margarita bubble tea. Totally yummy, loved the tapioca bubbles but… where is the tea? Maybe there is a variety that is more tea-ish, but I didn’t taste tea at all. Altogether a lovely drink but I don’t understand the use of the word tea. Maybe they were originally less a flavored drink, more tea.
Canal St. between Randolph and Washington. It’s not very big but it is worth exploring. I’m not too sure why it is the “French” market as it seems to have a lot of other foods. The French pastries did look very good. Have fun in Chicago!
There was a stall with a selection of teas. Some looked good. It was too crowded to get much service or smell any teas. I would have liked to check them out more but I was in a tour group so I only had a few minutes. The prices were around $5 an ounce, plus or minus a couple dollars. Signage isn’t great so it was hard to see the prices. It looked interesting. They also had hot and iced teas, matchas,as well as bubble teas.
Thanks! I was pre-scoping it out here. http://www.frenchmarketchicago.com/dl/cfm_vendor_floorplan.pdf
Wow! Computers are so cool! I was trying to think how to describe the location but a map is soooo much better. We came in the south entrance and it took a while to find it because you don’t have an overview. Now you will be able to spot it easily!
I love bubble tea! I agree, though, that at most places, it just tastes like sugar or whatever flavoring they add. Really good places will let you adjust the amount of sugar and use real tea, so the base tea flavors can really come out.
Looking for chocolate – not much, mint- maybe a little. Not much exciting. It’s an OK drink for when I want a non-caf tea in the evening but i don’t think I’d buy it again when there are still so many good ones calling my name – “Carol, drink me” “No, no drink me” “Me first” :-)
Flavors: Chocolate, Mint
ugh, that sounds awful!
Second person on my dashboard to recommend this, I think I’ll have to try it! :)
