drank Almond Plum Perfection by Teavana

This stuff is potent! The dry leaf has a strong aroma of candied almonds with a bit of fruitiness. It brews up to a bright hibiscus pink. The flavor is mainly artificial fruit with a hint of almond. I’m not a huge fan of this one, personally, but my sister loves it so I’m keeping a bit on hand for her.

Flavors: Almond, Artificial, Fruity

Stacy was sweet enough to include 1/2 an ounce of this tea as a bonus with my recent order. This particular flavor combination isn’t something I’d normally be drawn to, but I gave it a try yesterday afternoon. The flavor is definitely true to the name! The primary note is sweet orange zest, which really does remind me of orange marmalade. This is backed by the nutty pistachio flavor and just a hint of the vegetal green base. At 2 minutes, I wasn’t getting any bitterness or astringency. Personally, this wasn’t my favorite, but I can see a marmalade-lover really enjoying it!

Flavors: Nuts, Orange Zest

I don’t know much about this tea, as I got it as a bonus sample in a swap with…someone. It’s been kicking around in the bottom of my sample box for AGES and I finally brewed it up yesterday. It appeared to be a black tea/green tea blend and I chose to follow my black tea steeping parameters. It came out smooth and minty with just a hint of dark chocolate flavor in the aftertaste. Quite delicious! Thank you, mystery benefactor. :)

drank Coconut Cream Pie by Butiki Teas

Mmm, this is lovely! It tastes EXACTLY like the name. With absolutely no additives, I’m tasting the coconut, the cream, and even (I think) a hint of graham cracker crust! My first sip had a hint of medicinal rooibos flavor in the aftertaste, but that disappeared as my cup cooled down. I’m wishing I’d purchased more of this before Butiki closed up shop…I don’t have very many good caffeine-free teas and this one is the perfect bedtime treat!

drank Coffee Ice Cream by Butiki Teas

I hated the first coffee-flavored tea I tried (David’s Cafe Mocha) so I was a bit wary of this one. I needn’t have worried, though! Stacy is pretty much incapable of blending a bad tea. This is exactly what the name promises: creamy and slightly sweet with a realistic coffee flavor that isn’t at all bitter or overpowering. This isn’t something I’d personally reach for often (just because I’m not a big coffee person) but it’s quite good!

drank Decaf Carol by Lupicia

I got this in my Lupicia Happy Bag, along with a bag of their Strawberry and Vanilla green tea. Both have a very pleasant creamy strawberry flavor, but of the two I prefer the green tea version. The green base just goes better with these flavors in my opinion…and Carol also has a slight astringency in the aftertaste which I’m not a big fan of. But this is still tasty and I’ll have no trouble finishing my tin!

drank Strawberry Oolong Tea by Teavivre

I tried this one again following the steeping parameters on the package and liked it so much more than last time! A lovely, natural strawberry flavor layered over a smooth, slightly vegetal oolong base…just delicious! I would definitely consider re-purchasing this one.

drank Piccolo by Lupicia

You know you have too much tea when something has been in your cupboard for 6 weeks and this is the first time you’ve tried it! Finally getting around to the rest of the tea in my Lupicia Happy Bag. This one has a strong, almost syrupy sweet generic berry flavor with a touch of honey in the aftertaste. Others have compared this tea to cough syrup and I do understand the comparison. But personally, I found it quite drinkable. Not something I’ll be running out to re-purchase, but I’ll happily finish my tin.

Flavors: Berries, Honey, Sweet

Tried this one at work today. It was pretty good for a bagged black tea. I steeped it for four minutes and ended up with a strong, bold flavor but a slightly bitter aftertaste that I didn’t care for. I’m sure it would have been much better with milk, but all I have access to at work is powdered creamer, so I drank it straight. I would drink this again, but I’d either try a shorter steep time, or add some milk to temper the bitterness.

drank Strawberry & Vanilla by Lupicia

Mmm, this smells like some kind of delicious strawberry candy! Lupicia says to steep it at boiling, so I did…and I’m very relieved that I didn’t end up with a cup of bitter, over-steeped green tea. The flavor is mild compared to the scent, but still quite delicious: sweet vanilla, delicate strawberry, and a nice smooth grassy base. This isn’t quite as amazing as some of the other Lupicia teas I’ve tried, but I will definitely have no trouble finishing the 10 servings Lupcia sent me in my Happy Bag!

Bio

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.” ~ C.S. Lewis

I was introduced to loose leaf tea by a roommate in 2012, but it wasn’t until I stumbled upon Steepster in 2014 that I discovered a world of tea that went beyond Teavana and the grocery store.

My tastes continue to evolve, but black tea is currently my favorite. I am especially drawn to strong, malty breakfast blends to wake me up in the morning and flavored dessert teas to sip throughout the day.

Just about everything in my cupboard is available to swap, so feel free to ask!
