drank Celebration by Harney & Sons
353 tasting notes

I had just moved cross-country to Albuquerque, and Harney & Sons had their Celebration Tea back in stock, but only in 1 lb bags… so I did a bad thing and bought one. 1 lb of tea is a lot, guys! I already made my neighbor take a baggie full, and am trying to drink it down, but it may take me years… But so tasty. SO TASTY.

I’m not getting any of the sweetness that others are tasting in this tea. It is oddly savory and I’m not sure I like it. Where is the caramel? The blueberry? The dried leaves smelled so good! I don’t taste any of those tasty delicious things in here. One of the reported flavors for this is “chicken soup” – how apt. It is very soup-like. Meh.

Also, I hadn’t realized there was ginger in this when I placed the order, and I’m not sure if I can attribute my ambivalence to my hatred of ginger, or if this tea is just doesn’t work.

Maybe I’ll try a shorter steep.

There are a LOT of roses in this tea. I was a bit horrified when I looked at the dry leaves but thankfully, it wasn’t the perfumed mess I expected it to be. There is definitely rose flavor, as well as jasmine. There’s supposedly bergamot oil because it’s Earl Grey but I couldn’t really taste it under the rose and jasmine.

It’s drinkable but not my favorite. The flavors mix together a bit weirdly and I’m not completely sure it works for my palate.

Jeremy and Andrea just came back from a trip to London and in thanks for taking care of their cat, brought me back a jar of this fruit tisane. It is delicious. As advertised, it tastes like toffee and apples. I added a spoonful of plain rooibos tea to to this because my wrists have been hurting but I don’t think it impacted the flavor much. A pinch of sugar and some almond milk, and this is like dessert in a cup. YUM.

I just wish it had some cinnamon, because in my mind, apple and cinnamon always go together. I should add a bit next time.

Unexpectedly spicy. Blech ew. Not sure where’s the chocolate flavor; not here.

This is quite possibly the worst tea I’ve ever had.

This tea is amazing! I definitely wish I had picked up more than just 2 oz. when I was in Philadelphia this weekend. This is sweet and fruity (peach or blackberry, maybe?) and laced with peppermint for a little minty kick. And it’s smooth, too. Amazingly so. YUM.

I went up to Philadelphia for a day trip with some friends. At Reading Terminal Market, there is a merchant selling dried fruit, spices, coffee, and tea in bulk. It was tiny, bins everywhere, and it smelled like heaven. I limited myself to only picking up a few teas, though I easily could have bought more, especially given how cheap the prices where! I got 4 types of tea, 2 oz for three of them and half a pound for the fourth for about 25 dollars.

Tonight, I remembered I hadn’t unloaded the tea from my shopping bag, so I transferred them over from the plastic baggies the clerk at the store used into plastic Chinese takeout containers, for want of anything better. I will do for now.

So, first tea up was the Rooibos Peppermint Patty. This is a lovely before bedtime tea. Despite the sprinkles and chocolate chips in the tea, it’s not very sweet. I might have to add some sugar or almond milk in it for extra flavor depth. But the peppermint definitely comes through.

It also smells heavenly dry.

drank Almond Oolong by Adagio Teas

This is one of my favorite teas. It’s a pure comfort tea. I love almond anything and this tea really hits the spot. I just finished up the last of this tea during my last Albuquerque trip and managed to forget to order more in my last giant order, so I’ll have to make do. I still have plenty of the Almond Cookie blend which is delicious so I’m sure I’ll be okay. Don’t worry about me, folks!

drank Cacao Mint by Samovar Tea Lounge

Going through my tea backlog and reviewing stuff I’ve drunk since I had neglected Steepster for several months…

I was in San Francisco for one night only and I had dinner and tea with some friends at Samovar Tea Lounge, which was an adorable little cafe where we had the option of sitting on pillows at low tables or in chairs at a regular table. We opted for chairs though in hindsight, I would have loved to have sat on pillows. But then we would have had to share a table with others.

It was late so I didn’t want anything with caffeine. Most of the other herbal teas had ginger in them, which I try and avoid since I don’t like it. So cacao mint it was.

I think I would have enjoyed this more if I had the ability to try different steeping times and temperatures. I think the temperature was a bit too hot and/or it was steeped for too long since the mint turned bitter. I had to steal honey from an appetizer to sweeten the tea (no sugar provided) to try and cut the bitterness and bring out the other flavors.

I’m a tea-aholic. I’ve always loved tea. It is soothing and warm and comforting. I always had it when we went out to eat as a child so my first association is with rich and delicious food.

As an adult, I’m learning to enjoy tea on its own merits, and bask in its subtleties and varieties. The ritual of making a cup of tea is instantly relaxing.

I prefer oolong and white teas, followed by greens. For the most part, I don’t like straight black tea, but appreciate it as part of a blend or flavored. I’ve learned to love the world of flavored teas out there.

I’m slowly learning to appreciate rooibos blends, which I started drinking for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Love: Oolong, almond, coconut, peach
Hate: Ginger
