Nutty and nice

Our favourite part of the holiday season? The treats, of course. And those little almond-scented cookies have an extra-special place in our hearts. Buttery and sweet, with the nutty crunch of an almond on top, they’re a dangerously delicious part of any festive cookie spread. But with a nutty kiss of almond and an organic base of green tea, this sweet and subtle tea is our guilt-free version of the classic treat. Because indulging yourself should have no strings attached.

Ingredients: Green tea, almonds, marigold flowers, cornflower petals, natural almond flavouring

Delicious tea. I smelled this and had to have it, despite the cornflower and marigolds, which I was wary of. I am so glad I did, with a bit of sugar this tea tastes like almond sugar cookies. What a holiday treat! Thankfully the floral elements don’t stand out. Be careful not to oversteep this tea, it is quite unforgiving. I steep for exactly 3mins30secs in water just below boiling. After 4mins the bitterness starts to creep in, I accidentally steeped for 10 or so mins at work when I was distracted and it was undrinkable.

I really loved this tea. I normally don’t go for flavored Green teas, but I’m glad I gave this one a try. I really felt like I was actually eating an almond cookie. Even the second steep was delicious, with the almond taking a back seat to the Green tea.

Sipdown…this tea smells amazing. Sadly, it does fall a little short on taste. It’s not bad, and I might look at getting more, but it is not a priority.

keychange

ugh yeah this fell hugely on taste for me, which is sad given how amazing it smells.

We’ve had pretty much the same feelings on all the winter teas so far…have you have the new gingerbread one?

Bitter! Like chugging hot almond extract. Smells much nicer than it tastes.

Did not add milk as tea was yellow-light.

I love almond in all its incarnations so… this was an obvious choice. I also particularly love the smell of this dry because it reminds me of almond bar cookies my grandma makes around Christmas. Taste… I might have to try again, it’s been a little while since I had it, but my main impression was that it tastes like almond extract in green tea. I could probably go pour almond extract in a cup of green tea and it would taste just like this, so… take that however you will, I still haven’t decided how I feel about it and want to give this a few more shots.

The dry leaf aroma is pure almond extract. The brewed tea aroma is almond and green tea. The flavor? A delicious, buttery, almond green tea. It’s nothing unique or out of the ordinary. It’s just almond. But that’s why it’s perfect.

This is a welcome change from DAVIDsTEA’s tendency to over-flavor their teas. There’s nothing complicated going on in this cup. The ingredients list is green tea, almonds, marigold flowers, cornflower petals, and natural almond flavoring. That’s it!

DAVIDsTEA, keep on this track because this is what tea should be. Added flavoring that is natural and complements the base. Nothing artificial. Not an overabundance of stuff that masks the tea and overwhelms the cup. Just good tea. Yum!

I totally agree!

I second that. Even though I haven’t tried this one yet.

Count me in as a fan, as well.

Out of all the teas in the winter collection, this one is my least favorite. I’m beginning to find that I’m not a huge fan of green teas to start, and this one is no different. Almonds and green tea are an odd combination. I don’t taste either with this tea. It was just a cup of…bland. I’ll give it another shot, but as of right now, I’m just drinking this tea to get through it.

Smells like marzipan…tastes like? I don’t know. Maybe it’s me…but it’s not my cup of tea. Ha Ha. Ha. okay…not so funny. But it just tastes like an okay weak cup of green. Not my fave :(

DavidsTea does flavoured tea…that seems to be its niche and this one is flavoured to the max…it is best at a third steep…first steep is too powerful and the pure tea does not shine through…difficult balance to achieve…I want tea not “Disney” tea. My 82 rating is based on the third steep…once all the flavourings have been diluted down.

Dry: This smells intensely of marzipan, which I love. Of all of the Winter Collection teas, this one is my favorite scent-wise. You can see the green tea with marigolds and cornflowers. It’s pretty.

Wet: The marigolds and cornflowers disappear and you’re left with a green tea with leaves that have opened up nicely. I recommend using an infuser with plenty of room.

The liquor is a golden green color. I can definitely taste the almond flavor and there is also some grassiness from the green tea. I also detect a very slight cherry flavor. This sort of reminds me of Zhi Tea’s Cherry Sencha which I am a huge fan of.

Overall, I love this tea and it’s my favorite from the Winter Collection so far, with 2nd place going to their Hot Chocolate pu’erh/black tea blend. Green tea and marizpan? HECK YES. I need to quickly buy a full-sized tin of this.
