Get lost in it
Ever hear about the tea utopia hidden deep in the jungle? Word is, it’s a pretty enchanted place. People say the hibiscus is always in full bloom, the oranges and mangoes are perfectly ripe, and the subtle scent of cornflower and safflower petals hangs in the air. How can you find this earthly paradise? It’s as easy as steeping a cup. One sip of this fruity black and green tea blend will take you right there.
Ingredients: Hibiscus, apple, black tea, green tea, orange peel, safflower, cornflower, candied mango, artificial flavouring*.

There are fruits all around in this tea, it even smells delicious, but there’s an unfortunate hint of the overpowering hibiscus, and the even lesser safflower and cornflower.
Overpowering flower blossoms can be a problem, as they take away a lot of the fresh and bright flavors that would otherwise be prominent in a blend like this.
In this case, the hibiscus adds a disgusting amount of tartness and bitterness to a potentially great fruit cocktail.
I would love to drift away to paradise, but the jarring hibiscus unfortunately takes you back to the tart bitter reality.
I found it to be fruity, sweet with just the right amount of tartness from the hibiscus. I actually really enjoy the slight tartness that comes after the fruity flavour. The colour is gorgeous, reddish-pink and it smells amazing! I’m not a fan of iced teas but I may try this iced!

Apparently “paradise” is a big punch of hibiscus to the face. Who knew? Perhaps I should have read the ingredients list and had this iced/cold brewed to tone down the hibby tartness because hot, that is all I am getting. Nonetheless, thank you Jeweled Thumb for the opportunity to try this discontinued blend.

This was the last tea I tried before I left the house to visit my inlaws this weekend. It shall be a sore and trying time, for lo, they drinketh not the tea, nor even grace their kitchen with a kettle.
I brewed this up strong and used a few spoonfuls of leaf, then added ice. People were right about this being very hibiscus-y! And I agree that it’s unusual to see it mixed in with a black tea at all. I’m learning more and more that David’s is a big offender for mucking up their tea with hibiscus, but ah well.
This did turn out pretty nice with the ice and a bit of agave nectar added, but I didn’t get a lot of the secondary fruity flavours, like the mango, that are included on the ingredients list.

Cold brewed this for like 24 hours and I’ve been trying to force myself to drink it ever since. Tropicalia it is NOT.
So I dunno if it really counts as a sipdown because I’m probably going to dump it down the drain.
I used to think I didn’t have a problem with hibiscus, and maybe sometimes it’s ok, but this is not one of those times. This is so nasty. Bitter, sour, gross.
Just bad. Not refreshing.
I’m done with it now.
Maybe if I’d cold brewed it for like 5 hours it would be ok….24, not so much.
I’m trying to cheer myself up with having this tea.
I had a… we’ll say miscommunication or sorts with my mom and she took something very personally that she shouldn’t have ‘cause it had nothing to do with her and I got really upset at her for taking it so personally. Anyways, it’s basically sorted out now, but I thought I’d try and have something that would cheer me up, and this is the tea I thought I’d try out.
The colour of this one is absolutely stunning. It’s a nice rich red. I must take a good picture of this one at home.
But the taste isn’t one I care for… It’s VERY hibiscus flavoured with a hint of something floral, but I really don’t know what exactly. I think overall, I don’t care for this one… I don’t have a lot of it left. I might mix it with something else and chill it. Maybe the something else will take the tart of the hibiscus away.
This tea has a dark, dry, fruity taste. I wish it were a little brighter — I always remember it being such, but it doesn’t quite live up to my memories each time. Still, it’s nice to have a good fruit profile in a black tea. Those aren’t as common in the teas I’ve tried as I’d wish.
This is one of my favourite fruit teas. Usually i’m not a fan of hibiscus, but this tea is rather pleasant. I love the tartness especially when tempered by a teaspoon of sugar. It’s good when I want a fruit tea in the morning but still want caffeine. :)
