606 Tasting Notes
Haven’t reviewed any teas in a while… It’s time to get back to it. It’s been a lot of drinking the same teas everyday to use up what I have.
But the last few days I switched over to this one after picking it up on sale at a bulk refill store in my town this past weekend.
This one is quite nice, but I do wish it was a bit stronger. I left the teabag in it the whole time I was drinking it on Saturday and I have to say, it made it really good. I found that it made the tea much stronger and the black tea came through more and same with the caramel. This one is such a nice treat. I really like it and it won’t take me long to drink through my newly purchased box, that’s for sure.
SIPDOWN
I probably should have steeped this longer. I used my whole sample and I’m finding it a bit weak honestly. It’s definitely got the green tea aspect to it and I’m picking up on some pineapple and coconut.
It’s good, but it’s not really my thing. I probably wouldn’t restock it.
I didn’t need to buy more tea, but I wanted another strong straight black tea to start my mornings. There’s a shop not too far from my house that sells only Metropolitan tea company teas, and honestly, I’m finding I like most of them that I pick up. I’m sure they aren’t the highest quality, but I’m not too worried about that when I usually just want something to wake me up in the mornings.
This is actually my second cup this morning. I’m so happy I picked this one up. It’s exactly what I was looking for in a straight black tea: malty, strong, and bold. Yum
Iced latte today! I haven’t had this tea in such a long time… like 2 years. I’m pretty sure it was one of the last teas that I had in our store before our DT shut down due to c*vid.
This one has hibiscus, so normally you wouldn’t add milk because it was curdle. Well, the trick I’ve found is to chill the tea super super well before you add the milk. If it’s super cold, it seems to stop it from curdling.
I forgot about how good this one is. It really does taste like chocolate covered strawberries. I do wish I had added a bit of a sweetener to this one, as the tartness from the hibiscus is a little weird to me, and it’s got that stevia hint coming through too.
But the chocolate is so good and the strawberries are great. I need to enjoy this one this year for valentines day. It won’t take much for this stash to disappear.
My husband got me this one when he was ordering himself some coffee as I love trying something new, and he throught this would be fun.
This tea is definitely a surprise! I was fully expecting it to taste like coffee because I hadn’t read the flavour profile for the tea yet and so when I took my first sip and got apple cider, I was definitely surprised! I fully expected it to taste like coffee with hints of the fruitiness, but no, there is no coffee taste in this tea at all.
It’s mostly apple cider, with some cherry and raspberry.
I’m drinking this one straight up too because I really didn’t know if anything would be needed in it, and I’m glad I’m doing it that way as I think milk would not be good in this, and it’s actually very sweet on its own, so it really doesn’t need sugar. This is a tea I would probably drink a bit later in the morning though as I usually don’t go with the sweet teas in the mornings.
I’m not a huge green tea person, but occasionally when steeped right, I will drink one. This one is a nice pleasant surprise for me. I only did 2mins on this one and I think that’s the key to it. Nice short steep. It’s grassy but not too much, just enough. And it’s not at all bitter or astringent.
Yum! And SIPDOWN!
SIPDOWN already. Wow. I had this one maybe a month? And it’s gone. And I just realized this is tasting note #600! I didn’t think I’d get here especially because in the five years I was working for Davidstea, I pretty much didn’t log anything.
Like I said in the last review, this one is strong, bold and has a great creaminess to it. I loved it and I am debating getting more… It’s a really good one for those days you wake up and you didn’t sleep well the night before and you just need something to kick start you.
Tea #6 of my cupboard revisits
I have totally gotten behind because for some unknown reason, I decided that I needed to crochet two blankets (one for each of my kids) for Christmas. I gave myself 5 weeks. WHY?!?!?! I’m crazy. The only way that I’ve been able to do it, is basically only letting myself crochet all the time while they are at school, and once they go to bed. I’m literally doing it as a full time job when they aren’t home right now. Thankfully, I think I’m going to make it!
Anyways, I made this one a couple of days ago and I put some fresh lemon juice in it, because I really like when I put lemonade in it. Well, this one is super tart, and fresh lemon is super tart, so after putting the two together, it was tart city over here. I should have stuck with lemonade because at least it has some sweetness to it and balances it all out.
So, I drank it, but I didn’t love it. My kids drank most of it.
I’ll try and do more teas for my challenge because I really did enjoy working on it. It will probably run into January.
So, I’m pretty sure this is the one I have, although mine is called “Cream Irish Breakfast tea.”
I needed some new straight black teas in my cupboard because I was down to Honey black and Thailand Black (both DT) in my cupboard and they are both really good, but very similar and I needed something else.
This one really surprised me. Like REALLY surprised me. I knew it had the word “cream” in the name, but I wasn’t expecting it to actually have creamy tones to it. DT’s cream of Earl Grey says cream in the title, but I didn’t really notice the creamy part to it at all, so in a lot of ways I was expecting the same here.
But I was wrong, and I’m so happy. It’s got a lovely malty taste to it, and it’s nice and bold and strong (4min steep here lol) But it’s got this really nice creaminess to it that’s just smoothing it all out and making it such a delight! I had this one for the first time yesterday around lunch and I was crocheting some blankets for my two boys for Christmas and I literally took a sip and stopped in my tracks and took another drink. It was a very nice surprise and I absolutely love it. I’m going to enjoy this one a lot I think!
Tea #5 (I’m getting behind on my personal challenge here, but I’ll try and catch up. If I can’t, that’s fine. It’s Christmas and I’m trying to get too much done before it comes and I don’t know if I’ll make it. Oh well, I’ll do my best.)
Last time I reviewed this, was five years ago…. and I have a feeling that was the last time I drank this one. I never go to green teas, and I wish I did, because as long as you steep them right, they are really good.
I’m not getting much in the way of butter flavour in this one right now, but the green tea is still very good. A touch of astringency, which may have been my fault, I’m not too sure, but either way, it’s not too much. I did a 3min steep and I think I could have done less and had maybe an even better flavour to it. I’ll try that next time.
Either way, this tea is nice and I’ll enjoy it, but because of how little I go for this one, I’ll probably not restock.
