From DAVIDsTEA

A spicy adventure

If you’re into spice-based chais, this one is for you. It’s got a smooth base of caffeine-free rooibos, and a satisfying kick of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and piquant red peppercorns. Plus there’s a strong hint of coconut, for a slightly exotic twist. Try it straight up or infused in hot milk for a truly fabulous chai latte. It’s the kind of thing you get addicted to.

Ingredients: Fair Trade Certified Rooibos, coconut, cinnamon, ginger root, cardamom, cloves, pink peppercorns. With artificial and natural flavouring*.

Delicious.

I brewed it with water the first time but it was meh. The second time, I heated just milk to almost boiling, then added this tea. That did the trick! The best tea that hits the spot for those “snack” cravings. Sweet, spicy, and frothy. A great balance.

Just a note though, it tastes better than it smells. A sniff will be too strong. Just have to have faith that the flavours meld more delicately after brewing.

That baby hooked me up on Davids’ Tea. It’s the second tea I bought in Vancouver and I do not regret it! I took a 5k walk to get a refill for this one! My spicy-tooth is gone down so I kind of forgot about it. However, tea conserved in a can is good for 2 years. It’s just like the description renders it. It’s strong, spicy, but delicious. A Latte with this one is God on earth. For those who don’t like coconut, don’t buy it. The taste is quite something.

Phew, what a night! I make my breakfast smoothies the night prior and store them in the fridge, and tonight while doing so the plastic of my blender caraffe cracked and red strawberry smoothie guts splattered all over my kitchen, looking very Halloween-horror-scene-appropriate. I, however, wasn’t quite so amused. Not only did I have to clean my kitchen, but I had to get dressed again, go back out after I’d settled in for the night, and buy a new blender stat to have my fruity matcha goodness in the morning. I am in the middle of an 11,000 book re-labeling project at work, and that was the last thing I needed to come home to!

So, no more drama for the night. Need relaxing tea! Had a few DAVIDsTEA caffeine-free samplers lying around — this one had coconut, so I immediately ripped it open and checked it to see if it was still steepable or would be trashed. Nibbled a slice of coconut. Tasted okay. Didn’t smell foul. Okay, will go with this one. Too tired to heat milk, so it’s just a plain ol’ hot cuppa.

The aroma smells very pleasant… definitely not that “instant badness” coconut smell I got from that Mighty Leaf Coconut Assam freebie teabag not long ago, but rich, sweet coconut, and lots of warming spices… cinnamon, cardamom, perhaps a hint of ginger and pepper peeking through on the nose as well? The flavor is very nice… The coconut adds a bit of sweetness to the spices, which just feel so warm and comforting tonight, and while the last rooibos I had from DAVIDsTEA (Pumpkin Cheesecake) tasted very medicinal/woody to me, this one does not; it’s very smooth and I’m getting more of a nutty/honeyed flavor from the base.

This is the sort of cuppa that helps make up for a shit night. Warm, comforting, relaxing.

Going out immediately to buy a blender?! That’s some smoothie dedication! LOL!

I had a bit I had lifeboated out of the broken blender into a glass, but it wasn’t even enough for breakfast since so much had ended up all over my kitchen. Yet, I didn’t want it to go to waste, so I figured if I could dump it back into a (working) blender, I could add a few more ingredients and salvage it, hahaha.

A very relaxing tea for nighttime. Either that, or my day caught up with me all at once when I started drinking it. I’m all of a sudden very sleepy.

I really enjoy the sweet spices in this chai. It’s not at all spicy hot, so that’s a plus when it comes to a bedtime tea. I taste cinnamon the most, thankfully not the red hot kind, but I’m missing some of the other flavors. No cardamom or clove, both of which I love. I especially like a clove-heavy chai. This is an older sample so maybe it was stronger in the beginning. I would definitely enjoy it again as a sample, maybe even purchase a small amount to have a caffeine-free chai on hand.

Tea latte tonight while my boyfriend and I watch Drag Race over video call (we’re separated during lockdown because he’s a key worker and still has to go in to work every day). This makes a phenomenal chai latte! I wish I had enough leaf left to make more, but sadly I probably don’t. It has a lovely blend of chai spices, with warming cinnamon dominating the sip without overpowering the other spices. The peppercorns add an interesting heat, but not too much since I think the milk tempers it quite a bit. I don’t get much in the way of coconut, but again that could be due to the milky latte overpowering it. It actually reminds me quite a bit of a chai tea I got from a traditional stove-top stand at a food festival in Sheffield once, so that’s got to be a sign that this is perfect for a latte! Mmmmm, I should make tea lattes more often.

My favourite of the teas I’ve tried from David’s Tea. Every time I drink it at work, people comment on how nice it smells! It also tastes wonderful.

Oooh, I quite like this! I had it straight up with just a little sweetener. I think it’s probably kind of a weak chai to add milk to, but I’m willing to try it. I get a nicely balanced chai, with a coconut sweetness and a pepper zing – just enough to give it a little tingle, it’s not spicy per se. The sweet and spicy balance well, and I really am enjoying this. I don’t generally choose rooibos, so this is a nice surprise. I can enjoy this in the evening when I’m craving spice but not caffeine!

Finally decided to try my sample of this. And I remember what has put me off doing that. Coconut. I do not like the coconut. The rest of it isn’t bad, but I can clearly taste the coconut in this and I’m not a fan of it. It was drinkable but will not be having this again.

The rooibos pairs perfectly with the cinnamon and ginger, which are two flavours I typically hate. I think it’s the coconut that tones the cinnamon down enough for me to enjoy! It’s a very sweet chai and is absolutely lovely hot with a splash of soy milk.
