Decaf teas almost always have a weirdness to them. This has that weirdness. It’s like the metallic briskness at the end of the sip that mediocre black teas get. Other than that, this has some vanilla but if I want a good decaf vanilla, I’m going with Harney’s Vanilla Comoro.

N is for…Ning’er “Golden Honey Aroma” Yunnan Black Tea

Thank you Sil for this sample. Last time I had this, I remember being surprised it did not have as much honey as expected given the name. Today I am in the same boat. It is more savory (for lack of a better term b/c that isn’t quite right – smoked w/o being overly smokey? I don’t know) than you would anticipate a tea called honey to be. That isn’t bad, just different. That said, its not exactly savory – more bready…maybe like slightly charred crust and malt.

right? it was…underwhelming.

This tastes just like Marzipan Yum from yesterday. Makes sense since the ingredients are basically the same except this has some fun snowflake sprinkles and metal balls.

These marzipan rooibos blends have been better than expected. I think because the marzipan flavor is subtle and fruity and overall its just a soft sweet tea. It’s nothing particularly interesting but I am not looking to give them away either. Also, the last of this sample was used for a cold brew that I will have later.

It is definitely marzipan but not overly offensive. I am catching up on a course I barely started and have an exam in next week so I am distracted but this was better than expected.

I got through a lot of this in the March sipdown tournament so it seems fitting to finish it off today in another Mastress Alita-inspired sipdown adventure.

Because of the tournament, I wrote a lot about this one and since its a fairly consistent tea, I don’t have much new to say. Just want to mark the sipdown and take a second to thank Roswell Strange again for sending this my way. Thank you!!

M is for…Marshmallow Crispy Square

This is from one of my earlier Deb orders and I just kept overlooking it. People in the Sipdown group were talking about it the other day though and so it seemed as good a time as any to give it a go.

I actually really like it. It reminds me of 52 Teas Marshmallow Treat Genmaichas…with a whole lot of coconut as Deb tends to do.

M is for…Morning Mimosa

This was part of my sub box. I decided to make it as a tea pop. Except I am really not liking it that way. It’s got a lot of citrus flavor but there is almost sort of skunky about this. I think its something weird about the teapop and will try the last serving either just iced or hot.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
