Sipdown (240)

I saw the sipdown in sight and decided to just take it. That gets me to about 44-45 empties this month so far (I think). Yay!!

This cup was overleafed b/c it was too much for the cup but not enough for another serving so I said f**k it and just went for it.

Even overleafed this is still smooth though. It has a nice sweetness today mixed in with the hay notes. Slight fruitiness as well. It’s a very good white tea and one I would likely get again if ordering from teakruthi.

Nice work on the sipdowns! I’m around that number for the year and that is much more than normal, for me. :D

Mastress Alita

I’ve hit just over 100 for the year so far, but I care less about the “number” and more about the “ounces” because so many of my packages are 2oz. packages that take me ages to clear out. The last few months I was averaging clearing 600g per month, which shocked me and I was quite pleased with that.

tea-sipper

Wow! That is a lot of tea drinking!

VariaTEA

Thank you @tea-sipper!

@Mastress Alita – I tried tracking the weight of my tea but was so inconsistent with it that it just never stuck. That’s an impressive amount of sipdowns, especially given the size. Mine range from full packages to single serving samples that I finished. The tournament last month was a great way to work through larger amounts and I am seeing some of the payoff this month from that since some of the teas from the tournament only had a serving left that I finished this month.

Thank you Sil for this one. Today it has more cocoa notes but its still not overly interesting. Cocoa. Malt. A sharp metallic endnote. Nothing special but still fun to try.

O is not for…Marshmallow Crispy Square

That said, I have been thinking about this and trying it as a latte since I tried it for the first time a couple days back. So, I decided I would take the time to have it as a latte today.

The smell of coconut coming off this latte was so strong and while I definitely get a coconut cream aftertaste, the majority of the sip is actually more the toasted rice/genmaicha. It’s good but less dessert-like than I expected. Weirdly enough I found this was the case when I would make the 52 Teas Marshmallow Genmaicha Treat blends as lattes. For some reason the prep method brings out the base over the flavoring with these…

O is not for…Candy Cane

Ran out of “O” teas so I decided to get in a sipdown of a tea I was pretty indifferent to. It’s better hot than cold brewed but it was just never very good or very interesting. I am okay saying good bye to this one.

O is for…Orange Cookie

Between this and Orange Dreamsicle, I think I finished both “O” teas I own. The other “O” teas are because the company put “Organic” first as part of the title but that feels like it counts less.

Anyways, I used the whole sample of this tea to make a large hot cup of tea. I noticed a lot of almond and peppercorn in the rooibos when I poured this out. Honestly, I get a touch of both those flavors and maybe the slightest bit of citrus. It is cookie-ish but I wouldn’t have called this an Orange Cookie. That said, it does have a Christmas tea sort of vibe to it – that classic orange/spice profile so maybe it is Orange Cookie. I don’t know. It’s better than expected but likely not a restock for me.

Cold Brew Sipdown (244)

O is for…Orange Dreamsicle

I’ve had this cold brewed a couple times now. Mostly I gulped down the glass and never paid much attention because I only intended to write this note when I finished it. That implies I really enjoyed it but honestly I think I’ve just been plowing through it because it was caffeine free, cold brewed well, and I wanted to finish it.

Paying attention now I’m conflicted because it starts super orange forward and ends on a pretty accurate creamsicle/creamy vanilla+orange note. That sounds delightful expect the rooibos is so medicinal throughout that it almost seems like someone coated my creamsicle in EmergenC or some other orange medicine. So it had potential but lost me a bit.

I didn’t realize this tea had glitter in it but it does and its super cute!

Also, its supposed to be a black tea but its a lot of fruits. Got a nice cranberry and vanilla flavor.

N is for…Noel a Venise

This came via Roswell Strange and I need to be honest because she loves it but I have had this multiple times and it always seemed to miss the mark for me. Until today…

Today I took a sip and I guess it was at the perfect temperature for this tea because it was a perfect cookie flavor with a lemon rose glaze. It was so sweet and decadent while still being light and just perfect. Think a cute little petit four. That’s what I got and then it cooled and that flavor dissipated a bit and now the base tea is peeking through and taking away from what this was.

Thank you Roswell Strange for sharing! It’s amazing how finicky some teas can be but at that perfect temperature, this is amazing!

Well, that’s a happy tea story!

Cold Brew Sipdown (245)

N is for…Nutcracker…again

I figured I didn’t much care for this flavor profile and I have basically the exact same tea by My Tea Box so I could either save one serving or just finish it off. The latter was more appealing.

As a cold brew, its basically the same as the hot tea, though perhaps slightly fruitier. It’s fine.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
