Cold brew and plain tea sipdown (195)

H is for…Hangover Helper

I’ve had this before and it was fine. It’s not great today. I am going to drink it though because it’s not caffeinated. I just don’t want this again.

I thought maybe this was astringent but it’s not. It’s just brisk. Brisk and a touch floral maybe.

This is an award winning tea and I’m super underwhelmed. That said, I got Invisalign yesterday and everything seems wonky so maybe it’s that…

AJRimmer

Oh I was considering getting Invisalign, but I was a little worried it would make my tooth staining even worse because I’d be steeping my teeth in tea all the time? I’d be interested to hear how your experience goes!

VariaTEA

So far I’m still adjusting to them – feels like a lot of pressure and I’ve managed to stain them with Indian food but I switch them out weekly so I guess I can deal lol.

H is for…Hot Tamales

I went through a hot tamales phase as a teenager where I was obsessed with them. Then I got over them and don’t think I’ve had them since.

This has the right cinnamon to capture hot tamales – that hot but sweet cinnamon flavour. However, the other flavors like Rose and the base green make this a bit bitter and thus take away from the tea overall. It’s fine but I’ve seen it done better by other companies.

Made this as a latte with my salted caramel sweet cream. It’s soooo sweet and rich and decadent. The ginger provides the perfect counterbalance to keep everything from being cloying. Yum!

Latte Sipdown (197)

G is for…Green Meadows

I didn’t expect this to be a bergamot tea until I opened the package and smelled it and really looked at what’s in it. Given the bergamot, I decided to make this as a latte.

This is super flat though. And basically just had a hint of bergamot among milk. So I am not a fan.

ashmanra

Bergamot is a huge surprise in a tea labeled AKA Irish Breakfast….

VariaTEA

I thought so too!

tea-sipper

Oh they renamed this blend! I like this one.

G is for…Gooey Butter Cake

Thank you Roswell Strange for sending me the subscription boxes that this came in! I’m really excited to try this one and am so happy it happened to be included.

I’m not sure what I expected from this but it’s not what I’m having in this cup. It’s buttery, I think but it’s also not cake-y like I expected. I’m also getting less sweetness than expected. Lemon and the black base are also coming through and that’s making this more tea than cake. Is that bad? Not necessarily but I really looked forward to cake.

AJRimmer

The name of this one sounds SO good.

This tea was nice enough but never delivered what I hoped for. I guess I expected it to be sweeter, fruitier, and more lemon-y like the fruit as opposed to lemongrass. It was ok enough that I drank the package of it but I don’t think I will get this again. I’m still grateful to Nichole at CuppaGeek Teas for the chance to try it though! Thank you, Nichole!

Sipdown (199)

F is for…Forever Nuts

I don’t love the DAVIDsTEA version of this and this is like a worse version of the DAVIDsTEA tea so…

It’s heavy hibiscus. Heavy nut. And then a dusty cocoa. I wanted to like it but honestly i did not and I’m happy it’s gone.

tea-sipper

I can’t stand the version of “Forever Nuts” with the hibiscus! What are they thinking.

Kawaii433

Agree. It’d be so much better without the hibiscus.

This is tasting very petrichor/forest-y today and that doesn’t seem right. Am I having an off day? Or is the tea? It’s not bad. It’s just not what this usually is.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
