Tea of the Week for February 19, 2018!

Not too long ago, our featured reblend of the month was the very popular “Sun & Cloud Mist” which is a green tea blend with lemon and lemon-y herbs and marshmallow root. Shortly after I released it, one of my customers suggested that I do an herbal (naturally caffeine-free) version of the Sun & Cloud Mist. I put my mind to it and here it is – my naturally caffeine-free herbal version of Sun & Cloud Mist: You Are My Sunshine Green Rooibos!

I started with organic green rooibos which has a light, crisp flavor with a natural fruit note to it. Then I added a bunch of lemon-y herbs, including lemon grass, lemon balm, lemon myrtle, lemon verbena and lemon thyme. Then I added some dried lemon wedges and of course, I can’t forget the marshmallow root!

This tastes a little lighter in flavor and has a lighter texture than Sun & Cloud Mist, otherwise, it’s pretty spot on! It’s sweet and tart and I love the creaminess from the marshmallow. Really nice!

organic ingredients: green rooibos, marshmallow root, lemon grass, lemon balm, lemon verbena, lemon thyme, lemons & natural flavors

Lemon marshmallow
Tasty to the final sip
A delicious cup

Happy National Haiku Day! Pulled this tea for my Ode to Tea Y entry and have been sipping on this as my nightly herbal the last few evenings. 5g grandpa steeped in a teabag in 350ml 205F water.

It has a really lovely creamy lemon aroma… there is a tart lemon zest sort of note, and then a sort of softer meringue aroma. The lemon flavor is very bright… a natural, zingy flavor with just a hint of background sweetness which keeps it from tasting like furniture polish. The lemon is front and center, but there is a subtle fresh grass seed/herbaceous note in the background (likely my tongue reading a combination of lemon grass and the green rooibos base). It’s really nice! A slight sweetness that is almost honey-like in taste is left on my tongue after the sip. Very relaxing and enjoyable!

From the Samurai TTB
It seems like I am drinking lots of tea today as I watch football and read a book. I can taste the tang of lemongrass in this blend, and maybe a creamy note, but not much else is going on here. Still it’s a pleasant cup as I’m enjoying the wind blowing through the trees and am glad I don’t have to spend much time outside today.

This is nice and lemony without having sharpness to it. There is a slightly creamy note in the fragrance (marshmallow root maybe?) and I do barely detect it in the flavor. The green rooibos is nice in this, too. Lovely afternoon tea!

Sipdown (211)

Last cup was all messed up from my cold and tasted quite terrible so I am so relieved that this cup is back to its normal deliciousness. Then sad because it’s done.

It really is a nice, soft lemon tea and the marshmallow root is an excellent addition. It gives it warmth and comfort and a touch of sweet that makes this the perfect cup to relax with in the evening while under a blanket and watching some TV or reading a book.

I have some other similar blends that are more easily accessible to me so while I do enjoy this one, I don’t know if I will be holding my breath for a reblend. However, it was very nice while I had it so thank you Sil for sharing!!

Shae

Sounds like a perfect evening.

VariaTEA

It does…it’s not my evening since my evening is spent with law books in preparation for exams next week but one can dream…

Sil

I’m just glad we still share teas…

guys…i’m 5 teas away from being on a SINGLE CUPBOARD PAGE! that’s insanity. Seriously. This is probably my last cup today since this evening i’ll be drinking water and wine. ha! I’ve been enjoying this one quite a bit esp with a tiny bit of sweetner to make the flavours pop. i prefer this version to sun and cloud mist….that one for whatever reason never really made me as excited as others….

Final Count: 23 (9 teas, 14 puerh)

__Morgana__

How is it possible to have a single cupboard page!?!

VariaTEA

Provided I finally get over whatever I’ve come down with…I can either (a) meet you for lunch downtown next week to give you a bag of teas or (b) drop it off at your place one evening next week. Let me know if either option works.

Sil

Either, or works.

Morgana – I know right?
