Latte Sipdown (276)

This one smells so good but I could never coax out the flavors quite like I wanted to. Instead, I get a lot of black tea flavor here with the smell of coconut and vanilla. Even as a latte, it’s a black tea with some coconut flavor but the emphasis is the base and it’s nothing special.

Iced Tea Sipdown (274)

Finished this one off yesterday. It was pretty spot on for a pina colada, which was nice but also seemed odd given the cooler weather.

This was always meh to me. Not really white chocolate. Not really pumpkin. Mostly just chai. An ok chai at that. So A+ for concept since this screams “Fall” to me, but the execution isn’t really what I want it to be.

Not loving this one. Not sure what it is. I get orange and vanilla and green tea and while it’s fine, it’s also nothing special.

I never seen to be impressed with spiced green teas for some reason. And I do remember this one in particular being meh. Dammann’s green base is rather uninspiring.

VariaTEA

I’ve come to the conclusion that I just don’t really reach for white teas or green teas (except for maybe genmaichas), even if I like the tea.

I’m the same way, with only a couple of exceptions. Blacks teas are definitely what I reach for the most!

drank Mocha Matcha by DAVIDsTEA

Today is both #31daysofhallotean and #matchamonday on instagram and the prompt for the former is all about a pick-me-up tea. That seemed to align pretty perfectly with the latter seeing as matcha really is one of the best pick-me-ups in the tea world. I decided to have a bit of fun though and use this matcha in a matcha frappuccino (recipe: https://www.ohhowcivilized.com/matcha-green-tea-frappuccino/).

While the frappuccino was alright overall, I didn’t really taste the matcha. What I did taste was the sweetened condensed milk. So, not bad by any means but definitely just sweet and creamy and not much else. Looked nice enough though: https://www.instagram.com/p/CGQd3wJAx9P/

Dustin

That looks really tasty!

Thank you. If I am being honest, I genuinely think a plain matcha would have been better though. The mocha matcha is sweeetened and then mixed with the sweetened condensed milk it was too much. Plain matcha may have cut that a little

drank Caramel Brownie by Pudtea

Sipdown (277)

Following the day of trick blends, #31daysofhallotean called for a treat blend aka a favorite blend. While this certainly isn’t my favorite blend in my stash, it’s the one I wanted all day yesterday so I suppose its up there. I like it because it’s really fudgey which sells “brownie” all the way. I do get caramel but the brownie element is the star.

This is another Roswell Strange share that I finished the other day. I had a much better experience with this tea than I did with Dandelion Detox though. This is a rooibos cream blend and while the rooibos flavor came through, it wasn’t as offensive as so many others I have had lately. It was a nice vanilla cream flavor that worked well with the rooibos – which was neither woodsy or medicinal. I was surprised but quite pleased with this one. Thank you for sharing Roswell Strange!

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
