Another sample that was kindly sent by AmandaStory
I had meant to drink this one yesterday but didn’t end up getting around to it. Creme Brulee is not something that I’ve tried before but I do sort of know what it’s supposed to taste like. This one is pretty yummy and does taste like burnt sugar with a little custard. I think the oolong base works really well here and you can definitely taste it. It’s milky and a tad floral. As it cools the oolong flavor comes out more and more. I would definitely consider buying some of this one.
Flavors: Burnt Sugar, Milk, Orchid
Preparation
Sipdown! Is it sipdown or sip down? Hmmmm….
Got to try this tea thanks to AmandaStory sending a sample! I overleafed this cup a bit and it’s much more flavorful than my first. I’m not quite sure what a fluffernutter is. I’m guessing a marshmallow peanut butter combo? I’m having this with a bit of creamer, Oat Yeah I think. It adds a lot of sweetness to it. The sip tastes very banana nutty with a slight graham cracker taste coming out at the end of the sip. The finish is very similar with the banana and nuttiness taking turns being more prominent. It’s a very tasty cup. Probably not anything I’m moved to buy, but very fun to try!

Sample from AmandaStory! Thanks!
I keep going back and forth between thinking this tastes creme brulee like and not. I feel like it’s a hard flavor to transfer over to a tea. It starts out with a deeper burnt sugar flavor, a hint of sweetness and malt, then it goes a little flat. It gets interesting again in the finish, but only just. Malt is just barely back and an almost rooibos taste. I wonder if this would do better cold steeped. Hot isn’t doing it for me.
Preparation
AmandaStory sent me a sample of this! Thanks! :)
I made this, took a few sips then walked away from my cup until it had cooled. When hot it was sweet and fruity, mostly pineapple flavor. Now that it has cooled there is a slight tartness to it that seems fitting with the fruit flavors. It’s still mostly pineapple, but I think I get a little lemongrass along with it. It looks like there is a variety of things in the ingredients list, but I’m not able to taste those. This is a fun cup, but not something I’d seek out and buy.
Preparation
I sipped on this while making some baked oatmeal cups since I needed to use up some ripe bananas and didn’t feel like making banana bread.
This one is pretty sweet and yummy it’s simple in flavor since it’s slightly caramel-y from the rooibos and sugar combo. I don’t get peeps from this specifically and am missing that marshmallow flavor. I would happily drink this again since I love pretty much anything that’s really sweet. I don’t think I’d repurchase this one though just because it doesn’t really stand out in flavor. Glad I got the chance to try it! I love the idea of an Easter inspired tea!
This was one of the samples AmandaStory kindly sent me (:
Flavors: Caramel, Sweet, Wood
Preparation
Got a sample of this with my order! It wasn’t very exciting when my cup was hot. There was something empty or flat about it. Since it has cooled the flavors have gotten more interesting. It’s still a little empty in the sip, but the finish has something going for it. It reminds me a lot of the chocolate orange tea this company does, but with the orange replaced with darker berry flavors. So far feeling lukewarm about this one.
Preparation
I read several tasting notes mentioning how nice this was as a latte and I intended to do that, then forgot as I was steeping. Next time. As it is, it’s a nice cup! The sip is a little light with some peanut notes and then the chocolate peanut butter notes come out in the finish. Enjoying this as I watch bits of The Princess Bride with the tiny roommates.
Thanks for the sample, AmandaStory!

One of the NecessiTea Samples I received courtesy of AmandaStory (she sent some other lovely looking teas as well)
One thing I noticed was that the samples she sent me from this company in terms of smell remind me of A Quarter To Tea. So I’m curious to see how that translates in flavor like in some of the fruiter ones for example.
This one has an oolong base and I steeped it pretty much how the company recommends to. (I don’t have a 195F temperature on my kettle)
The cup has a creamy vanilla mint flavor and some sharper notes of candy canes. It also tastes a little floral from the oolong base. I don’t necessarily get Creme Brulee from it but then again I’ve never had creme brulee before. Peppermint seems like a bit of an odd flavor for Creme Brulee. A Perfect tea for the winter holidays.
Flavors: Cream, Floral, Menthol, Peppermint, Vanilla
Preparation
Sipping/choking down this tea that AmandaStory shared. I seem to have forgotten how humans drink and got some of this down the wrong pipe! If only there was a point where we outgrew that!
I’ve been so busy lately with running my small business that I haven’t had time to log my tea or take notes while sipping on cups between filling orders, shipping orders, making more product (casting, finishing, soldering, polishing), ordering supplies, updating my website and a slew of other things. It’s also swarming season for bees and I’m on the local beekeeping association’s swarm list. Getting free bees is a very competitive thing, so I have to be glued to my phone to catch the alerts before another beekeeper does. Life is busy and I just want a nap!
Onto the tea! Overleafed this a bit so I didn’t have half a serving left and it’s pretty delicious. I’m getting less of the earthy notes this time and more pumpkin spices with something a little more buttery in the background. I’m not super familiar with snickerdoodles other than a cinnamon association, so it’s hard to tell what part of this is supposed to be snickerdoodle like. The cinnamon/clove action is nice, but not overpowering. I like this, but I’m on the fence on if I’d order it or not. I might have to be in the right mood to buy it and right now I’m trying to hold off on buying more Arthur Dove tea as my cupboard is overflowing and starting to intrude on an adjacent cupboard. Tea priorities and problems. :/
Preparation
I predominately make components for a jewelry system used in body piercing. Tiny little gold pieces that display on the front of the piercing.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who can’t figure out how to consistently drink tea the right way!
My husband is currently obsessed with videos of beekeepers capturing queens and moving unwanted swarms! I think he wants bees…
Ladies, you aren’t alone. It happens to me as well. I always blame myself being old enough to drink properly. Apparently not.
My neighbor’s hive swarmed a couple weeks ago and stopped at my house long enough for me to put a bait box out and get them to rest so we could scoop them into a new hive. It was a fun day interacting with neighbors after we have all been shut in our houses for a year. It’s very meditative working with bees because I’m constantly having to ground myself and resist the urge to let anxiety creep in. If you have the room in your yard I vote bees for the Ashman!
My dad was just mentioning yesterday about a lady who goes around collecting bees from neighbors without a bee suit on that he saw on TV. (Is it common not to use at least a netted hat?) I guess he (or I?) didn’t know this was a thing. But it makes sense now, that you kind of have to “catch” the bee swarms.
When bees swarm they are super docile, so a lot of people skip using the suits. Two things are going on to make this happen. First is the bees are homeless, so they don’t have any turf to protect like when you mess with their hive. Second, they fill up on honey before they leave knowing it may be days before they find a new home and when they do find a new home they are going to have to start making comb quick. When you use a smoker on bees it triggers them to feed on honey and their full stomachs is what makes them more docile.
Waiting impatiently for my cup to cool a little! It has a very earthy dirt like scent to it that makes me wonder if some puerh is in the mix. Cinnamon is prominent in the scent as well. The flavor when I sip is similar. I get a little bit of the nutmeg and maybe clove that is the pumpkin spice trio, but nothing that says pumpkin. The cinnamon is a little bitey, but not in an overwhelming way. There is almost a cookie note to the scent one I get further into the cup. The finish is all spices. It’s a nice enough cup but not something I’m taken by right away. It has a little sugar in the mix already so maybe some cream would liven it up? I’ll have to play around with this.
This was a tea I was eyeing on the website that sold out before I could make a purchase. Thanks AmandaStory for the chance to try it!
Preparation
Got a sample of this (and several other teas) today from AmandaStory! Thanks!
This has such a rich caramel scent to it! It’s very pretty visually before steeping with little colored sugar crystals sprinkled in the mix. It tastes sweet with a very light caramel flavor that becomes more prominent in the finish. There is something slightly tart in there that starts mid sip and lingers. I’m enjoying this cup and am super happy to have something new to try in the evening!
Preparation
Three months since I last logged this tea and I can’t say I’m any more fond of it. There is still this bitterness that I’m now equating to walnuts when they start to turn rancid. The banana is light in the scent and flavor. Oatmeal on the finish. I’m not digging this one at all. I might give it one more go before it goes into the get rid of pile or I might skip the one last mediocre cup and put it in the pile next time I see it.
Preparation
Super strong banana scent in this one. Taste wise I’m not so sure about it. There is a slight bitterness I’m getting. The sip is a little bland and it isn’t until the finish that the banana comes out. I can just pick out the oatmeal part. I’m guessing this is another freshly blended tea that needs to sit a while and let the flavors marinate. I’ll have to circle back to it in a month.
Preparation
Whoa! This is all cinnamon! I get what the blender was going for, but the balance between cinnamon and chocolate is not there. This reminds me a lot of a local brunch place, Hobee’s, that has a super strong cinnamon tea. So much cinnamon in fact that it gives me a stomach ache and hopefully this tea doesn’t follow in that path as well. There is a sweetness here and it’s hard to tell if it’s just from the cinnamon or from the marshmallows and other ingredients. When I think Mayan hot cocoa chili peppers come to mind. I get a little bit of spice, but it could just be from the cinnamon. If I wait long enough I’ll get some chocolate in the finish, but there really isn’t much. Maybe if I put it in the back of the cupboard the cinnamon will mellow out over time and let the chocolate out to play. As is, it’s a cinnamon tea and I’m really not into it. :(
Preparation
I’ve always been so curious about this company, but they are always sold out of the teas I am interested in lol! I feel like I should place an order once I start running out of teas.
I have an older tin of this tea and have been using it mixed with David’s Tea Nutty Granola Crunch. TBH I can’t recall if I’ve ever sipped it by itself. LOL!
My best friend lives in the Bay Area, and I always want to go to Hobee’s when I visit, hahaha! (I like their breakfasts). First time I had their “red hot cinnamon” tea it was a really good batch, last time I was there it was brewed way too strong for my liking.
I was feeling curious about this company too, Silent Kettle. I finally made one purchase and liked the tea enough. Got an email that there was a shop restock and had a really frustrating experience with items being sold out from in my cart as I decided between two other teas, so I skipped ordering and it’s taken me a while to try their site again. I get the feeling it’s a side hobby/business for the owner, so finding items in stock is pretty hit or miss.
Hmmmm… maybe I should try mixing this with a chocolatey tea!
I was raised on Hobee’s for brunch. I love their coffee cake, veggie scrambles and shakes. I hope they survive the pandemic. :/
