Sample from VariaTEA. Didn’t realise this was green but drank it anyway the other day when i had it. It wasn’t bad..but it wasn’t great. I need green teas to really knock my socks off for me to want them in my cupboard. this doesn’t meet that. too much green, not enough orange!

This is my 6000th TASTING NOTE!
I tried to think of a fun tea to have for this note but then I realized I would rather have another B tea and one that would make a good latte. I also realized I had one “B” tea that would make a good latte AND was caffeine free and as my 8th cup of the day, that seemed like a good call. It also ended up being a surprise sipdown, which was nice. That makes 4 sipdowns for today alone. Yay!
As for this tea, it made for a nice latte. I found this tended to be much more root beer than butterbeer to me. Today, with the salted caramel from the cream, it was slightly more butterbeer than it had been in the past. However, it also was a touch peppery from the honeybush base. It was good but I always found myself wanting more of the actual butterbeer flavor and less of the base/root beer. I don’t think I would get this one again – unless I forgot I had it before and add it to an order as I rushed to beat the selling out of the Necessitea’s entire stock.
I had this as a latte last night and was so thrown by how much this tasted like root beer. Root beer and butterbeer are not the same thing. Plus, there was a bunch of butterscotch chips in this blend so it was incredibly surprising when this was a whole lot of sarsaparilla. Good but not butterbeer.
Grabbed another few blends from The Necessiteas to try. I love genmaicha/rice krispy blends and I love black tea, so this flavor profile intrigued me. Sadly, there’s no popped rice, so it’s really lacking the proper flavor to make it a rice krispy. However, it’s a nice marshmallow black tea. It’s quite sweet (as expected), and would probably make a delicious latte.
I have 10 or so blends from The Necessiteas at this point. I know they’re sometimes difficult to obtain, so if anyone in the US is interested in trying some, feel free to send me a message!
Cold brew Sipdown
This cold brewed for a while but it tastes like nothing. I tested positive for COVID so could be that or could be just regular congestion side effects. Who knows.
Cold brewed Unicorn Fluff vs. Lemonberry Whip by 52 Teas. Check out the tasting note for Lemonberry Whip here: https://steepster.com/rachel12610/posts/423884
If I’m being honest, Lemonberry Whip won but I finished it so this is moving on.
It’s cold brewed and alright but I find myself wanting more of the ginger burn I’m used to. Without the ginger to offset the marshmallow and fruit, this gets a bit flat and overly sweet. It’s not bad but the ginger is the best part of this. I think I may also prefer this hot but I’ll need to review my notes to be sure.
Round 1 of my mini tournament is this tea against Blueberry Buttermilk Short Stack Pancakes. Check out the tasting note for Blueberry Buttermilk Short Stack Pancakes here: https://steepster.com/teas/dessert-by-deb/96788-blueberry-buttermilk-short-stack-pancakes?post=422970
Both teas cooled slightly by the time I got to drinking them. Also, neither was as sweet as I expected. This one I know is typically sweeter but there was less sprinkles and marshmallows in the filter this time. That, or my tastebuds are slightly off. Could go either way.
Despite the lack of sweetness and this being a touch flat without it since there also isn’t a lot of ginger in this cup, I think this edged out Blueberry Buttermilk Short Stack Pancakes for the win. That tea has a briskness that I really don’t love. So I’ll take flat and fruity over brisk and fruity. And fruity this ism with citrus and kiwi notes today.
U is for…Unicorn Fluff
I decided to make this hot while I watch Bo Burnham’s Inside and avoiding the work I should be doing.
Hot, I find the citrus comes out more but there is a marshmallow sweetness/fluffiness lingering over top. The ginger is under the citrus as well and so the top and bottom layers sort of converge on the citrus. It seems muddied together a bit which mutes the flavours overall. Basically I don’t mind this but think I prefer it cold.
