Made tea and mom wanted some so I had to make something I knew she’d like.

The rolled leaves in the Adagio brand seems smaller than in the Moroccan Mints that I’ve had… or maybe it’s because it’s been so long since I’ve had it.

This is the 1st time I’ve had gunpowder straight, not in Moroccan Mint. In the tin, the leaves smell kinda like cow dung from a cow that recently ate a LOT of grass thrown into a camp fire. It does have a very slight aroma of a pu erh, but yet grassy like a green tea and smokey like lapsang souchong.

I steeped 2.25 grams of leaves for 3 min in purified water heated to 175 degrees F. The liquor is a medium yellow which is more yellowish than I expected. The aroma is exactly what it smelled like in the tin.

When I taste it, I’m not suprised. It tasted exactly like it smelled both in the tin and after steeping. There is a lapsang souchong-esk taste to it, but that is soon enveloped by a grassy taste and finally a smokey flavor. But the smokey flavor isn’t the same in a lapsang souchong, it tasts more like cigar ashes had dropped into it.

I remember hearing somewhere that the smaller the gunpowder leaves are rolled the better quality the tea, although I have no idea if this is true.

teaplz

Did you do multiple steeps of this one? Because I’m thinking of giving it a try sometime this week!

Cofftea

Yeah I stopped at 3 I think, but I’ve been getting at least 6 from my greens, especially when I start my steeping time at 30 sec instead of 3 min.

Cofftea

Good mixed w/ chai spice mix too!:)

drank Thai Chai by Adagio Teas

Every time I find the bottom of a mug of this, I feel disappointed. Must buy larger mugs. Or maybe, just add milk and honey and drink it straight from the pot?

LENA

Have you found a better chai? I haven’t…yet. This one is still my absolute favorite!

Cofftea

Lena, I have a few REALLY good (and a couple really interesting!) chais on my Adagio custom blend list.

LENA

ooh, i will check them out.

Cynthia Carter

So far this is my favoritest chai. I like the Masala Chai, but this is even better.

I love the coconut and lemongrass flavors in this tea! Lighter and less spicy than the masala chai.

Desperately needed something for chapped lips and cold hands. My choices are limited these days. I accidentally spilt all my Earl Grey. The Yunnan Noir is past it’s due date. I’m not in the mood for Jasmine tea. Blood Orange tea is too sour for right now. The others were all samples and have been summarily drank. That’s really okay, because Gunpowder shines in moments like these.

I’m going to break a precedent and try and analyze Gunpowder’s character. The liquor is Orange-Red. Smells like good tobacco, smoked herbs and orange peels. It has a thirsty smoke taste. The slight vegetable notes that you can catch are very dry. It feels fantastic on chapped lips, I can tell you that. Has almost a scotchy taste. Yep, yep, that’s it, I’m done. I’m comparing it to scotch… And you have to understand that this cup of tea is so perfect right now, that I really don’t care. Regards.

Never did a tea have a more apropos description and name than this tea. It looks like gunpowder, smells like it and has an ashen smokey flavor.

It’s my favorite tea. That is likely to be my final verdict, too. It’s just a favorite and a hard-nosed one. This isn’t necessarily a popular type of green tea. It’s not one that immediately shouts out to be liked. It doesn’t sing to the tastebuds… It’s not a profound medeley with hints of cocoa and notes of lemon… It’s simply a strong smokey green tea.

very surprised with this tea; it was excellent. Very flavorful with a lost lasting after taste and a medium body; very enjoyable!

I think I would like this tea more if I hadn’t just burned my tongue on it.

Boo Boo Rocks Out

They have the water temp really high for blacks, don’t you think? I usually boil water then wait 30 seconds before adding it to my black tea.

This is a good tea, but nothing outstanding. 3 minutes puts it on the cusp of bitter. I only taste the hint of chestnuts as an aftertaste.

One word: rich. Rich rooibos and rich vanilla make me feel the same. Easy, too: the only way to mess up this cup is to understeep, which (for people like me who forget that their tea is steeping) is a definite plus.

The thing I love most about this tea is the vanilla flavor—it tastes so fresh and natural. A good “cold day” tea.

drank Blood Orange by Adagio Teas

I ordered a 8 oz for my sister who is an avid fan of Orange flavors. The tea is a dark pink with a strong perfume of deep Orange. I admit that I liked the aroma of the tea better than the taste. If I could devise a way to turn the tea into a potpourri, I could make a fortune.

The tea itself is sour and lacking in what I would call complete character. Spiced with sugar, it’s perfect for kids. I liked it too, but it needed something to carry it to the finish line… A dark spice like Cinnamon would work, I think… Bottom line is, if you’re crazy about sugaring up your tea and love Orange, the tea is ideal.

Mike

Completely agree. I like how natural the sweetness of this tastes. Great for when you’re looking for something sweet but not overpoweringly so.

Profumatissimo e dal gusto che ricorda la liquirizia. Si beve tranquillamente senza zucchero, ma con l’aggiunta di quello di canna diventa ancora più speziato.

I really enjoyed this. Reminds me of a smooth, clean, earl grey, without any substantial after taste or scent. I used two pearls, but I think one would be plenty for my taste in weak tea. I also assumed I could steep this without a filter, but the pearls unfurled completely and I got a mouth full of leaves.

Backlogging last night.
I love this tea. Not because I like the taste, I do, but because my wife likes the tea. This is the tea that cemented my wife as a loose tea drinker. Its the one that she will go to the trouble of brewing, as opposed to dropping a teabag into a cup of water and putting it in the microwave.
Did I mention its a damn fine tea?

Heyes

Always a good idea to bring the wife over to the loose side – makes the discussion “expense” of loose leaf tea less of a bear.

Made this last night in my 4 cup pot (after the decaf ceylon disaster). Two heaping teaspoons with boiling water, steeped 3 minutes. Yummy! This came out perfect. I really like the bergamot peel that Adagio uses in their Earl Grey, and like the “normal” version, this EG comes out with a big bergamot burst that some might find overwhelming. But for the real Earl Grey experience, I think Adagio has the finest…and their decaf keeps up the standard.

I fixed a 4 cup pot of this for my wife and I last night. First time I’ve tried Adagio’s Decaf Ceylon. In short, it was a disaster! The tea had an off taste that I can only describe as “fish stock” and I poured the whole pot down the drain (I abhor fish stock and anything made with it).
For the record: 2 heaping teaspoons steeped with boiling water 4 minutes. The off taste was present at 90 seconds when I checked for color and just got worse with time.

E’ sicuramente il tè più delicato che ho bevuto. Ha una nota piacevolmente acida e un gusto fresco erbaceo.
