Almond

Sipdown! Thanks to gracebtlb for this share. Super excited to try the new teas she sent me! I opted to try a giant mug of this one because I want to save the puerh for when I can really sit and focus and enjoy them. Now, as most know I’m not a fan of adagio teas but they’re not terrible. Apparently I have a thin about almond teas as well, since this one also came across as almond extract to me. It’s similar to Stacy’s almond cookie tea but with the adagio black base (which isn’t nearly as nice, and is much finickier). However, all that being said, this isn’t a terrible tea. The almond is there in the flavouring and the black base helps to keep it from being overly cloyingly sweet.

I agree with previous reviewers that this definitely has more of a bitter almond rather than a sweet almond taste, which is fine by me. I am a big almond junkie, so this was one of the first teas I ever ordered from Adagio. This pot means I’ve finished the tin … but I also have another sample-sized tin that I bought when I realized I was close to running out.

This isn’t amazing or astonishing, but it does taste like a bitter almond cookie and it’s a good comfort tea for cold snowy days like today.

This is an ok tea. I think that I’ve had so many marzipan teas at this point that are amazing that it makes this one seem a little blah by comparison. It’s definitely not the best almond tea that I’ve had. There is a touch of bitterness and the marzipan aftertaste is a little too artificial. I think this one definitely needs milk; it tones down the bitterness and adds to the creaminess to make the aftertaste more authentic (but not quite amazing). I would drink it, but only if there wasn’t a better almond tea in my cupboard.

-Dry blend has medium black tea leaves and twigs.
-Dry leaves smell like almonds with a hint of marzipan. Tea liquor aroma is of marzipan.
-Tea liquor is a slightly cloudy dark reddish brown color.
-Malty fresh almond flavor and finish. A small amount of bitterness. Light creamy marzipan aftertaste.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Good tea. Lightly artificial almond marzipan flavor.

As others have mentioned, I found this tea to be a tad bitter although I did not oversteep it. I think next time I’ll give it 3 mins. instead of four. It’s pure almond and I have had better almond. There is something just slightly synthetic about this—-not really synthetic but as if it relied more on almond oil than some of the other teas. It is not a bad tea but I do have other almond teas that I keep around and so I probably will not reorder this one.

As a side-note, however, you can get this in a very generous $2.00 sample size which I strongly recommend. I like almond so much, that an almond tea can hardly go wrong with me unless it is utterly tasteless.

It’s a work day. Brought out the Bodum cup with infuser basket, and went with the sample of Almond black tea.

Brews up very dark. Smells nice, but there’s a bit of an alcohol taste to the tea, I’m guessing they use an almond extract for the flavoring, which generally contains alcohol. I don’t like that taste, unfortunately, so I can’t see ordering this tea in the future.

Which makes me think I should give the one last serving in the packet to my coworker who likes tea. Why am I drinking it if it is something I wouldn’t order? I always get stuck in this “gotta use it up” mentality. “Using” also can include gifting. Duh! :D

My stash is getting old and I’m running out of almond pieces. Which, actually, may be the upside—no bitterness this morning; just slightly sweet.

I think I liked this more than the average person does. However, I did add milk and a bit of sugar before even tasting the tea plain (I was in the mood for milky tea this morning and nothing was going to stop me). The almond flavor is definitely there, but it’s subtle enough to be a morning tea rather than a dessert tea. I’ll have to try it plain though, but from what I’m reading I think it definitely benefits from milk and sugar.

I’m enjoying this even more the second time around. This is definitely my new favorite black! It’s very smooth, really. It just makes me feel warm and cozy, without being lulled into a stupor.

I’m not drinking tea as much lately as I used to. My Steepster use has shifted from documenting every drink to documenting unusual ones. And documenting when the tea has left my cupboard. And that’s what happened with this one.

I really love the Adagio Hazelnut tea, and enjoyed the Almond as well. It’s not quite as good to me as the Hazelnut one, but that’s probably because I prefer hazelnut to almond in general. It’s a good cup and one I’d like to replace one day… once I’ve gotten my tea stash to a reasonable level.

I received this from darby in a swap. Thank you so much! This is a nice smelling black flavored tea! It smells almost like amaretto – sweet almond. I tried this during medical school because my friends loved this tea, but it has been a long time since I’ve tried it again. I can say that this tastes wonderful. The liquid was amber brown and it tasted like an almond biscotti!
