Now that my sense of smell is back, I’ve decided to finally try some of this tea. It’s been tempting me since it arrived in the mail a few weeks ago!—My first purchase from 52teas!
The smell before steeping was very very fruity, almost reminded me of the smell of coconut rum, or pina colada. After steeping, it still has a strong smell of fruit, but it smells a little weird, almost like butter or lotion-y.
Anyway, here goes. oh…my…god. This is amazing. It’s delicate just like white tea should be, but at the same time has such sweetness from all the fruity flavors in it. In no way are the many fruits overpowering the white tea, which I feel is what most flavored white tea blends tend to do. It’s hard for me to pick out specific flavors, but I’m definitely tasting hints of coconut, papaya, and pineapple as I sip on this drink.
It really does live up to its name and description… It’s like a tropical explosion in your mouth! (…thats what she said) But really—this is such a great tea, and I knew just by reading the description that I would love it since I love flavored white tea, and most of the fruits included in it that it was calling out to me saying “buy me!”, and what a great purchase it was ! :)
Preparation
This should most accurately be called Penultimate Chocolate Rooibos – after this delicious, chocolatey serving, I only have one left!!
This tea is such a life saver on late nights when I want something rich and full bodied and NOT fruity and herby. I am going to miss this limited edition tisane!
Preparation
We had some leftover pancake batter (courtesy of my husband – he is a great pancake maker! I totally stink at pancakes) so I decided to try and make dessert crepes with it. I attempted to make something that vaguely resembled a crepe, then put some chocolate chips in the middle of it, rolled it up, and put it in a 200 degree oven to keep it warm and continue to make the chocolate melty as I made this tisane.
Yum! Very nice pairing! The chocolately rooibos (with a little agave and milk) went well with the “crepe” and provided a little extra richness to elevate the humble pancake to a satisfying dessert!
Preparation
I made my squeezes of agave & chocolate syrup and this tisane concoction – topped with a splash of half and half – and OHHHHH it was good. I am the kind of person who needs a chocolatey treat every couple of days, and this one is super satisfying.
Preparation
More strawberries from the farmer’s market today means more Ultimate Chocolate Rooibos tonight! Again, a match made in heaven.I just love the way this tea tastes richer and more chocolate-y with fruit. I would drink this for the entire strawberry season but my packet is getting dreadfully low!! Cry!
Preparation
It tasted so nice, we had it twice! Yes, tonight we had the same dessert as last night – heavenly perfectly ripe sliced strawberries and this tea. Great chocolate flavor and no caffeine for night time. Excellent.
Preparation
Soooooo good with our dessert of perfectly ripe strawberries from the farmer’s market. This pairing is the most delicious way to consume vitamins and antioxidants that I could ever imagine!!!
Preparation
I made a batch of my big bakery style chocolate chip cookies for work tomorrow (it’s grade day at the University I work for – we have to make sure all the grades are in and transcripted before we leave for the day, so we all make food and sweets to share to help us get through it!). Of course I had to “test” one to make sure it was good! I brewed up a nice cup of this to go with. Mmmmm. This really is my ultimate chocolate rooibos. Rich and flavorful enough to stand up to my monster cookies!
Preparation
Yum! My go-to rooibos when I want something chocolate in the evening. A little agave nectar complimented the chocolatey goodness. I served it with what I think are now my holy grail chocolate chip cookies:
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Best-Big-Fat-Chewy-Chocolate-Chip-Cookie/Detail.aspx
and it was rich enough to stand up to the baked good. Gotta bump this rating up a bit!!
Preparation
Lol! AmazonV – you could do a contest like DoMatcha did where we must extol the virtues of bacon and then you’ll send the winners some bacon chocolate cookies :)
I also just now created a Favorite Recipe folder that’s right next to my Favorite Tea folder because of those cookies. Nommy-Nom-NOM!
Rabs if you like nuts I also added some pecans (about 3/4 cup) and yuuuuummmm. I’ve also made them without (and yuuuummmm ;) They are huge just like a bakery! Oh – the other thing I do is not use brown sugar but use a little less white sugar than the white and brown sugar combined, and then a tablespoon of molasses. It adds a better flavor and a bit of chewiness.
Oh lordy I’m drooling! I’m not the best at cooking, but I love to bake. I love to make my own breads and bagels. I haven’t done cookies in awhile – I’ll let you know when I try ’em. :D
I’d love to learn how to make my own bread, but so far have just gotten good at pizza dough! My husband really got into bread baking when he was in grad school and teaching, but now that he works in a corporate environment w long hours…sigh! No more bread.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/21/dining/211brex.html i think this is the one MilitiaJim makes all the time – it’s simple and tasty
Oh that sounds yummers! ::adds to recipe favorites:: My favorite was an Italian Bread recipe I found in Southern Living years and years ago. I’ll see if I can find it online. After reading up on breads in Fannie Farmer’s book on baking I realized that I didn’t need to punch down the dough as much as the recipe called for which made the bread so much easier to make :)
Mmmmm! This is my favorite of all the Chocolate Rooibos tisanes I’ve tried! The different types of chocolate remove most of the woody flavors and just add depth – I tasted a nice subtle chocolate and white chocolate flavor (at first I thought it was vanilla, but then I realized it was the white chocolate!)! A very enjoyable cup to happily sip on as I worked on my latest batch of photos:

Preparation
I woke up in the mood for coconut and remembered that Jillian sent me a sample of this. 52 Teas isn’t joking when it comes to their coconut. Man, those coconut shavings are GIANORMOUS! The smell of the dry leaf is just wonderful. I was slightly tempted to eat one of the pieces of coconut…but I refrained this time. The tea was very smooth and flavorful. I noticed on the package that this tea included vanilla flavoring, but I did not taste any. Perhaps the vanilla flavor would be more prominent in the latte version. The oil from the coconut formed little globules on the surface of the tea. Mmmm! I wanted to try this tea with milk and sugar or perhaps whip up their latte recipe, but after quickly drinking my 1st cup (a true sign I enjoyed it), I found the tea to be a little weak. I don’t know if it would hold up to the milk and sugar…or the latte for that matter. Without the milk and sugar, I think this is just a regular coconut flavored tea, albeit a decent one. I promise to try it one day, but for now, straight up is just fine and dandy.

LiberTEAs spoiled me!!!
When I saw this I KNEW I was crazy enough to try it.
When I was scrolling thru the reviews again I said to myself ‘okay…everyone seems to like it…what’s the deal-E-O?" Then it happened. 2 low, low, low reviews. It doesn’t scare me! Bring it on!!!
One thing that made me laugh while reading the 52 teas description about the butter flavoring was…OH MY GOSH…I’m going to drink butter? Then I just chuckled it off…
YUP! It smells like Cinnamon Raisin Toast, indeed. I am unable to smell the butter tho. BUT…I don’t slap on much butter – if any – while eating toast – so…maybe it’s the same case scenario!?
YUP! I can taste the black tea, the toast, the cinnamon (thankfully it’s not over the top), and the raisin. It’s hard to taste the butter but just as it starts to travel down my esophagus I can taste a hint of it, I guess.
As for the toast part…the more I drink this – the more I can taste the toast as an after taste.
This is a neat little creation and I appreciate the fact that it’s different. It’s surprisingly good and am glad you can still taste the black tea. To me…it makes a true flavored black tea that way.
Very Fun!
Okay…so…if you were to ‘juice’ a cucumber and heat up the juice this would be it! This is the closest I have tasted to ANY tea that actually tastes this close to Cucumber! This is really good and really refreshing. I think I am going to save my last sample for an ICED attempt.
Yet another goodie from LiberTEAs…she’s such a peach! :)
The dry leaf smells like a cucumber as you pick it from your garden with the skin still on it where as the post-infusion liquid smells like a cucumber once you start to cut it in chunks or slices! It’s truly amazing!
The taste is so pure and clean it just makes me smile! WOW! I really, really like this green tea…it seems to be the complete package (as long as you like cucumber!)
Preparation
Yummy with some agave nectar. My cup was extra strawberry delicious! I love the honeybush in it – I kinda wish I could take a magic wand and turn all the rooibos in the various tisane blends in my cupboard into honeybush!!!
Preparation
Mmmmm. I steeped it properly this time and I can taste all the flavors! Strawberry is the first thing I taste, followed up by the chocolate then vanilla. I love the honeybush, too. A great combo of sweet and robust. Very satisfying when you want a black tea but really shouldn’t have one! Gotta up this rating…
Preparation
We just had a very bizarre power outage – I came home to no electricity! – but thankfully everything is now fixed thanks to some long hours from the power company – at 8 pm we shouted “Let there be light!!! (and internet!)”. The first thing I did when the power came on was make tea! I chose this one because I wanted something sweet to ease all my worry.
I was a nervous wreck making it – in a mad rush to try and reset all the clocks in the house, make sure everything was now working, etc and I was too heavy handed with the leaves and probably steeped it a bit too much. I tasted a strong, delicious strawberry flavor and my first taste of honeybush! Yum! Sweeter than rooibos and less cigar humidor-ish! I fear that my heavy steep and the addition of honey masked the vanilla and chocolate flavors. Nevertheless, it was very delicious! I love the honeybush and the strawberry was so natural and good. It does not need honey at all, and I think a 5 minute steep would be more suitable.
Preparation
This tea has had so many great reviews lately that I really need to order some. However, I’m on a self-imposed tea buying hiatus for the month of April, so if it is still in stock at midnight on April 30, I’m ordering some! Until then, I am glad to live vicariously through your and others reviews of this blend.
When our electric is out we light the wood stove and get out the metal tea kettle. Have to have my tea.
Dan – It’s great that you have an alternative energy source! That is the smart thing to have! I felt so fragile thinking I couldn’t do ANYTHING with the way the modern things were set up. When the apocalypse comes, I’m in DEEP TROUBLE!!!
I think 52teas has proven that more tea makers should offer flavored honeybush. Not enough flavored honeybush!
Glad you’ve got your power back! I’m a little surprised you didn’t seek comfort from your beloved Thomas … but then again, he might be a little too stimulating for this situation!
Yes – the last thing I needed was caffeine!! I was shaking as it was :) I should have drank a whole chamomile bush!!!
JacquelineM – maybe consider a natural-gas stove next time? The igniter doesn’t work during power outages but the stove does once you ignite it with a long fireplace match or one of those long-long-nozzled lighter-thingy. At least tea & even dinner gets on the table during outages…!
We have a gas oven and burners that run by an electronic pad thing. Can I light those burners with a long match?
I don’t do the oven (though my mom did on hers all the time) I only do my stove with the long-nozzled-fire-lighty-thing (often as we are subject to black outs and brown outs on the wind’s whim).
I will try it – only on the burners! :) if I have this happen again. When I saw the whole stove looking dead I just figured nothing worked! THANK YOU!
My only caution – make sure you can turn it off somehow (my knobby thing turns off my stove) I don’t know about your electronic pad thing.
Yes I have knobs that you turn as well as the electric part. I hope I never have to try it :) :) :) :) but it is so good to know about.
Try it, JacquelineM! Try it out now when you have power – that way you won’t panic about trying something different in a stressful situation (which is so me, probably, more than you).
That’s a good idea – I was totally shaking yesterday!! In our last house, our electricity went out and we wound up having to get the whole house rewired at $$$$$$$$$ – the wires were old and rotted – so of course that is what I automatically thought happened and I was like noooooooooo! Thankfully it was something the power company had to fix.
But this is no reflection of 52teas quality, as how did they get a tea to mimic champage? Upon removing the filter after steeping, I think I actually saw champagne bubbles. This tea does magically capture the “dryness” of champane.. but for me, I am not a champagne fan. Shoot, the only champagne my sweet tooth likes is some bargain brand (Verdi?) sold at the corner CVS…
I did not detect any lime notes even after cooling…
Ah, Verdi Spumante! It’s cheap but yummy (I have a sweet tooth too!). I actually served it at my wedding. A coworker did at hers first, and I liked it so much I copied the idea. Besides, dry champagne tastes bad with sweet wedding cake… I read that somewhere.
So glad to hear you are enjoying it! By the way, great use of “That’s what she said.”
