1598 Tasting Notes
I think this is the last sample I have from JustJames, and it is just PERFECT for winter. The oolong is dark (and possibly roasted), while the chestnut flavours swirl around. It makes me imagine sitting curled up next to a roaring fireplace, with a cat purring on my lap and a book nearby. It’s a cup of liquid comfort.
It’s just, really good. Can’t wait to re-steep this!
(sipdown 82)
It’s late and I should be proof-reading my bf’s essay but I’m too sleepy and my head hurts so instead I’m drinking this tea and talking about the Doctor Who special with a friend of mine. It was pretty great. And now my headache is gone and I’m off to bed. :D
Yay for painkillers, good tea, good friends and Doctor Who!
(I wouldn’t be in the mood for this all the time though. Very rarely in fact. But when I want it, I want it)
Sigh. Another sipdown (84). And unless Stacy decides to release this as a permanent blend, I may never have it again.
I drank it after watching the 50th Anniversary special of Doctor Who. It seemed like the appropriate time to finish this off. And without spoiling anything, I will say that I am happy with the episode and the tea. Both do well multiple times. (And now I can scour the net for reactions/reviews and madcap theories!)
Preparation
i know!!!!! the episode was awesome! (shamefaced) i was so transfixed that it never even occurred to me to steep up my blend. dammit. i can do it now though. i wonder what the budget was for that episode? wow.
so hard to spoil anything….. i’ll shut up now.
I must be the only person on the planet not watching this. Ditto for coronation street, not that we’re talking about it. Dude, I wasn’t even conceived when this show first came on, and I am not what one would consider young.
I didn’t get into Doctor Who until 2 years ago, and I started with the 2005 reboot as it was (apparently) a nice easy way to jump into the series. Now I look back at those and cringe a little. :P They’re great fun though if you ever decide to give them a try – it’s on Canadian Netflix!
ooooooooooooooooooh. and i couldn’t pick. 2005 absolutely. earlier? gak!!!! i do not understand the obsession with coronation street. not at all.
I don’t understand coronation street obsession either..though i also didn’t get downton abbey…and then i watched a few episodes. happy sigh
Yeah Blink is pretty awesome as well, but then I’d skip to Series 5. :P 2005 had a lot of silly fart jokes and characters who I’m not quite as fond of when I see them again :P I worry that people who start there might not keep going! Haha. Of course my friend told me to start at Series 5 and I ignored her and went to S1 and I stuck around. So, I’m just being a hypocrite.
I really want to watch more of the old ones though. I’ve only seen 2 or 3 of them and I get all my old Doctors mixed up.
haha i make all my friends start with the reboot and tell them it’s a little like the harry potter series…first one was totally childish and then they get progressively darker. I can’t imagine not having watched everything unfold with rose and david tennant…
Downtown Abbey is good now but for the first couple of episodes, I was only watching because I knew it was good. My idea of good. Awarded, critically acclaimed and liked by those with tastes similar to mine. Until all of you steepster peeps I have never even heard of dr. who! More like… Dr who?!?
I totally get that! That’s a great way to describe it to people. And I really, really liked Ten. So it would be a shame to miss him and all his companions.
(NXTDOOR – SPOILERS)
I started rewatching DW a month ago and it was just painful to watch Rose/Mickey and her family drama stuff. Mickey wasn’t actually a bad guy at the end of it, and everyone sorta trampled on him. I guess that made me a little uncomfortable, although the first time through I was totally shipping Rose/Ten.
I really like Downton too! I need to catch up – it’s been a few weeks! :O Are you guys all in the current season? Who’s your fav char? :P
Backlog: I had this last night and wanted to note it because I’ve had trouble with this tea. It’s fallen flat a few times, and other times it’s just wonderful. I guess I really need to be careful to use 1 bag for 8 oz, and not under leaf it. It’s also much creamier with a little bit of milk.
We woke up with a little bit of snow outside yesterday, so it seems like the right time to whip out the Winter Tea. I haven’t tried this but when QueenofTarts put it up for sale, I thought I would give it a try, especially when the forums are abuzz with talk of Fauchon and Mariage Freres.
This is such a light and mild tea. It’s creamy, with a nice mixture of lemon and vanilla. I think I detect the white tea in the background, but only when I actively think about it – white tea is so subtle!
I was wondering why this would be called L’Hiver, but I think I get it. It’s just so milk and lightly refreshing that it just hints at Spring and provides a bit warmth through the gloomiest winter.
Preparation
A little bit? I had to shovel this morning. Really shovel. For 20 minutes, till my extremities were kinda numb so I went inside. Brrrr.
Yikes! I didn’t even go outside yesterday so I don’t know how bad it was then, but not it looks warm and melty with the green grass poking through…
Sure! I didn’t get much, but I could send enough for 1-2 cups. :)
Is there anything else you want me to bundle up and send your way?
Haha. Caramel popcorn matcha? Maybe just one serving? :D Ooh, and peanut butter? Same thing. Ooo, matcha.
Crazy. I’m down to maybe 3 ox if this one. Maybe buying the crazy big tin wasn’t THAT bad an idea.
i love this one. I have a cup left and am already planning a restock. With whipped cream (and booze) tastes exactly like a peppermint Mocha from starbucks.
Hmm. I think I’m going to decupboard this. Usually I love this tea, but this one just had an odd taste this time around. It’s almost salty with a smell/taste that reminds me of the flavouring from itchiban noodles. I’ve been delaying a tasting note on it in the hopes that it’s just me, but nearly done my 1 oz pack.
Maybe I’ll grab more on Friday and try again!
I’ve had it since July. Not sure why it seems different this time around, but maybe I’m just not a fan of the base anymore? IDK. I’ve never had issues with any any of your other teas so I’m not too concerned – I can restock on Premium Taiwanese Assam instead. :)
Cavocorax-That would make sense. We are actually discontinuing the base. We will be doing another Raspberry Truffle with a higher quality base.
This tea is PERFECT.
I’ve only got enough leaves left for one more cup… Sad, sad little cup. Maybe I’ll save it for next weekend when I order 2 oz more. :D
Here’s another one from VariaTEA. She didn’t care for it, but I don’t mind it. The spices are quite nice, and u can actually taste the pumpkin
I know the retail stores have a bad rep, but I’m happy VariaTEA had a few samples to share so I could try Teavana with an open mind.
