1598 Tasting Notes
I made two cups of SoHo today and dumped both. The first was really flat and awful, so I thought I’d make it again with better results. Well – it was marginally better.
But THIS cup has renewed my faith in H&S teas. I made it super strong and poured into 250ml of milk and frothed it up. YES. I love it.
And another matcha gone! (74) This time I had it with hot water, as usually intended. It’s more bitter than I’m used to when I drink it in milk, and the chocolate isn’t quite as stand-out-ish, but it’s still a little creamy and sweet.
I would definitely restock this.
This is a tasty oolong, but not one I’d re-stock from Teavana as it’s much cheaper elsewhere. (I’d probably try Teavivre instead!)
But, I thought I’d finish up this sample as it was nearly 6 months old, and it was an easy sipdown! (75!)
Thanks for Teavivre hint! My husband loves this stuff but I just can’t bring myself to pay that for it.
To be honest, I can’t really remember. I do know that I generally like a lot of Teavivre’s teas, and that they have very reasonable prices/shipping costs. You could try a few samples from them for fairly cheap. Also, sometimes you can contact them and request samples so long as you do a review here afterwards!
Mmmmmm… this is a lovely Butiki tea to end my evening with! I’m just on the 2nd of my two planned Supernatural episodes, drinking this, and knitting some silly mitts for my poor cold kid.
Then I’ll start my GoT Winter is Coming scarf! :D
I found out today that I was the lucky winner of the Butiki contest! I’m so stoked. I picked the blue bird jar because I’m a sucker for birds, and now I’m drinking Butiki tea to celebrate! I’ve only got one cup of this left, and one cup of Caramel Vanilla Assam and then I’m totally cleaned out until my order arrives. That’ll be… odd.
VariaTEA! were you the one that got me started on that damn show? argh! i’ve been trying to remember who it it my head!!!!
Congrats! Please post a picture when you’re done with your GoT Winter is Coming scarf (and your jar). :)
Thanks!
Well so far Season 2 is MUCH better than one. I hope that means they just get better. :)
And CrowKettle – if I manage to pull off this scarf I’ll probably spam pics everywhere. :P
OMG. I’m just watching S2 E15, and this episode is cracked. This is ridiculous. I didn’t realize Supernatural was on purpose funny.
Don’t do it… It’s full of pain and sadness :( But in all seriousness, it’s really good, I’m just bitter over last night’s episode.
Hahaha Roswell, it really hit you hard. It will be okay.
And Cavo, I think in the first season they were trying to make it more a drama but the seasons for sure get funnier as they progress. Just wait for Castiel. Also I like to watch bloopers and cast interviews on YouTube because the cast is honestly hilarious and love each other so much. It’s adorable.
And it’s time for this one again! I only steeped it two minutes, yet it still smells sharp and bold. It tastes great too. I’ll try and resteep it at least once before moving onto another cup. (Sadly I am awful for not re-steeping multiple times…)
And now that I’ve read all your logs and contributed my own, it’s off to the job board!
And… not to ravelry. (http://www.ravelry.com/projects/cavocorax)
:( I just finished knitting scarves for my daughter and my nephew and am out of projects at the moment and it’s making me mental! I need to be working on something but I don’t have any inspiration at the moment. Part of me thinks I should teach myself crochet so I have more options, while I ALSO think I should keep on knitting so I get better at that!
Riiiiigh. Job board? Ok then. I’ll be back in an hour or so. :P
Probably not the sort of things I’m capable of making! Some of those projects out there are so awesome!
I made this a while back. Super fun and surprisingly easy: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/gruurly/dwarven-battle-bonnet-2
MissB – that looks cool, but also scarily complicated! And is that you on Ravelry? Cuz if so, I’ll follow you. :P
Veronica – knitting is pretty fun, based on what I’ve done so far, but it seems like crochet is more flexible because of how you connect the stitches? IDK. I like the idea of making toys with crochet.
I think I’m going to attempt this awesome Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming scarf as my next project: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/winter-is-coming-scarf I just picked up some black and some light grey yarn from Walmart to see how I do. J thinks I should make our buddy a House Stark toque instead – I’m considering it if I can find an easy pattern! #noob
Anyway, if you guys are on ravelry, here’s my profile if you want to follow.
Cavo, that scarf looks awesome! My brother is totally into the books, but isn’t really a scarf-wearer… so if you find a toque pattern, let me know. :)
I didn’t, sadly. :( I think you could make your own using this: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/stark-sigil-game-of-thrones-a-song-of-ice-and-fire but I’m not at that skill level where I can combine those two things. :P
Yep, that’s me! :) It was really easy. I thought it was more than I could handle to be frank – I have yet to conquer anything with multiple colors. If you can knit in the round, do basic cables, and cast off, you can definitely make it. It only took me a week from start to finish too, and that shocked me.
Too bad that VariaTEA didn’t like this, but I’m happy she gave it to me. I don’t mind mediciny-rooibos’ flavours.
And I’m happy that we made it through all the Black Friday/Cyber Monday madness. Our discussion boards should calm down soon! Well, aside from the “What I Got in the Mail” thread, but that’ll be an exciting one to watch, and also it’s easy to ignore if I’ve got too much going on.
Apparently this is the tea I wanted so late at night! Nothing herbal. Nothing flavoured. Just pure black tea in all it’s delicious glory. Honey and malt and awesomesauce.
I’m starting to get a little low on this one, but it’ll just have to last me. I did a count and I have ~77 teas right now and roughly 67 incoming after this weekend. Some of them are just small swaps from Steepsterites, but I have a few 100g orders coming too! I’m pretty excited – this will definitely liven up my cupboard!
Just 67 teas arriving, no big deal. If I had been drinking my tea, I totally would have snorted it. :D
LOL. I don’t think it’s as bad as some people? (Please?)
My problem is that I bought a surprise bag from Janelle, and I have incoming tea from you and CrowKettle, while Sil has about 9 samples waiting for me at her place. All of this was BEFORE the weekend.
Speaking of which, I mailed your matcha samples out, and then stuffed the Coconut Oolong in a separate envelope and mailed them out today! I forgot to label the Coconut Oolong but you’ll know what it is. :)
(84 bought, plus free samples, plus two swaps, plus a few from BrewTEAlly Sweet’s stash sale, two people saying they have tea for me… yep I’m “some people” …..)
LOL. I probably have a similar number in the works, plus teas from Sil and Dexter I haven’t tried yet. I need to finish packing up teas for Sil, but I’ve run out of baggies.
Dexter – Hahahha. Yeah – I think I saw you comment about that somewhere so I didn’t feel like I was too outrageous.
Well… now is the time?
Give yourself $40 for possible Boxing Day sales or DavidsTEA Spring Collection excitement and then hiatus until…. March?
I’m trying to decide how long I want to go!
I really think I’m going to get really close to 300 – most of which are quantities. I need to think hiatus until I halve my stash – quantity and/or number of.
Yeah. That totally makes sense. I don’t feel so bad about going up to 140 because most of it is 1 oz or less. Or much less. But I do have 8 oz of Ceylon Star to counter that. :P I really find it useful to track my stash by weight instead of number, but number means more to other people.
Noooooo! I’ve got one little scoop of this left after this cup. I will surely miss it once it’s gone. I think it’s my favourite out of all the matcha’s I’ve tried so far…
How do you brew this one? When I made it, I used about 1/2 tsp for 8 (or 12) oz and though it was good, it did not taste like Belgium Chocolate
I mix it with 250 ml of cold milk! Sometimes I use 2 matcha scoops isntead of one for more flavour too. I imagine it would great hot too. It’s not SUPER chocolate-y, but enough for me.
Well I have never thought about mixing it in cold milk. Haha it is so simple but would probably be very good. I will have to try that next time. Thank you :)
Thanks VariaTEA! I’m really enjoying this vanilla rooibos. I think I would order some if I did a CaesarsTea order. It’s just really smooth and the vanilla is nice and creamy. It makes me think of marzipan a little, but I also get some kind of fruity note, possibly raspberry.
Yum!
I made a cup of this to keep up on my oolong tasting for Saturday Oolong day, or whatever it’s called. I may have over steeped it, but regardless it tasted like butter. Not milk. Not coconut. Just butter.
I’m not into that right now as I’m already a little queasy today, so I dumped it after a few sips. Will finish my sample and rate it another day.
Oh no! I think we are the opposite in our love of Harney teas because SoHo is my favorite and I just can’t seem to get this one to work for me.
Well when I first bought then I loved all of them. It’s only since I moved to ON that they seemed flat. I was worried that maybe the move did something, but you seemed happy with the ones I passed on, and now this one tastes fine, so Idk what’s going on.
Maybe Florence needs a little milk?
Cavo…maybe it’s the water here heh
Nooooooo! I’m going back to BC. :P
Do you have a brita? I find it’s making a huge difference, even though the water here is super soft. There’s just so much chlorine. I miss the aquifer water we had when I was growing up!
Yeah we had a Brita jug, but now we have the filter that goes directly on the tap. I need to make sure I’m always filling my kettle with that water instead of the tap water. (I get impatient? But once I finally get a nice variable temp water I’ve proimsed to not put tap water in it. :P)
Cavo, I ended up bringing your box with me. It traveled back to Markham haha. Anyways, I will probably drink one of the Harney teas at some point this weekend and if I taste a difference I will let you know because then it might actually be the water.
Hahah. You’ve got your own traveling tea box I guess! I’ll keep an eye on your notes to see if it’s the water or not. And I’ll do a better job of using filtered water for my tea. :P
