1598 Tasting Notes
I don’t even know what mulberries taste like outside of tea nut this is so good. Maybe this deserves a tin?
With the amount of tea we consume, I think it’s hardly fair to expect reviews with each cup. Sometimes it’s just time to relax and enjoy the cup.
This is good, but it’s mulberry leaf, not berry! I think the leaf tastes rather spinachy (like, more than spinachy green teas). Gold Rush and Caramel Spice have (had?) mulberries in them, and they pretty much taste really caramelly. If you’re curious about the flavour of mulberries though, last time I was at Bulk Barn, they totally carried them in the dried fruit section!
Gold Rush made me seek out actual mulberries (dried) and they taste like dessert! Not at all tart, really sweet and yummy!
I think this is my favorite of the Ovation teas I ordered. I’m happy I gave it a shot!
I’m sipping away at my 4oz bubble cup with just a splash of milk in it, while my timolino holds the rest. This is pretty good without milk too!
So now I know what this one tastes like when you oversteep it! I can barely recognize it from the gentle delicate green I know and love.
This is… like seaweed? With a bit of roastiness like a genmaicha?
Summary: NOT GOOD.
I wish I knew what I did, but I guess I wasn’t thinking when I steeped it. Maybe I used water that was too hot?
Preparation
I bought this purely because of CrowKettle’s review. Steepster is funny like that.
This tea is… odd? It’s very dark and brown and good. I agree- it smells like dirt and fallen leaves and just.. the forest. It has a bit of a creamy finish in there that’s surprising, but there is something ODD about this. I can’t put my finger on it. IDEK what it is. But I am enjoying this blend.
It just requires further investigation.
I’ve never even heard of that one! I’m so rude to straight teas. I look past them as though they’re not even there, when in reality they’re way classier than their (usually) artificially flavored annoying little cousins. Especially at Davids. Maybe I’ll try it next time I go!
Do you live near a DavidsTea? They have a bunch of straight blacks/greens/whites/oolongs that they were trying to promote for a dollar, and they’ve dropped them down to .50 for a sample. It’s a good way to try some out. They don’t have a huge selection but it’s enough to explore.
If not, let me know and I could probably grab some and throw them in an envelope for you! (Seriously… .50 is pretty good!)
In retrospect it looks like I was on crack while writing my note for this one. I never know how to feel when I influence people into buying tea XD
Ha! I only grabbed a little and was curious anyway. I think ii realized I like Yunnan tea somehow, so it wasn’t ALL you I guess.
I worry that I influence people to get tea they won’t like but I was (mostly) right about Coconut Oolong.
This tea just isn’t for me. I’m not a big cardamom fan so I guess that’s no surprise?
Also I am WAY TO WORRIED about new things. I had this in my “mild tea” timolino and then I was worried it would contaminate it. So silly. These things are meant to be washed out so you can start again fresh. :P So now I am brewing up my Korean Sejak to cleanse my mouth.
Also this counts as a sipdown because there’s not enough to send to anyone and I am done with it. It’s ok 52Teas: you won’t win them all!
More like Blueberry Evening? I bought this as a nice chill-out before bed tea. I wish it tasted more like blueberry though! I really enjoyed Blueberry Jam from DT, but didn’t like the crazy amount of sweetness. I was hoping this would pop, yet be a soothing rooibos.
Oh well. I have lots of Lime Chiffon left!
Also, I brewed this 5 hours ago and threw it in my old timolino so that I wouldn’t wake everyone up when I want my bedtime tea. It’s still piping hot and I’m just pouring it into my little 4oz bubble cup so that it stays hot. Maybe that’s not the most efficient way to do it, but I’m happy!
Preparation
Their Blueberry Creme (?) is guite delicious, but sadly does apparently contain black tea. However, I don’t think it has very much in it.
Haha – I wasn’t paying any attention when I chose this sample.
I made it, then was immediately let down by the terrible fishy notes. Oh. It’s pu-erh. :| Ocassionally I have found pu-erh blends that I like, but not this one.
Oh but good news!!! I just realized I can get email updates when there are replies on other people’s posts instead of just mine! So now I don’t have to hope I didn’t miss someone replying to something I said!
I don’t mind! I’m a smartphone addict so I perk up whenever I see the flashing light. I’ve even have an app on my phone so that I can set the color/frequency of the LED flashing to let me know what msg just popped in (whether email or SMS).
I should set one just for Steepster. :P
I have to say that I should probably unsubscribe from a few of the forum threads because it can be too much – the ‘you know you’re addicted to tea’ one can be the craziest but it’s so funny too.
I have joined the CULT OF TIMOLINO! bows down
We were out shopping today and my bf spent a lot of money on boardgames, and so it was decided that I could have a treat too! And so I snagged a precious purple timolino! And this time I will love it and treat it much better than my teal one. NO COFFEE.
I wonder if I should dedicate this one purely to whites/greens/oolongs, and My sad teal one can be for blacks/other strong teas? Does that make a difference?
At the very least I will now be able to pack 2 of these into the diaper bag when I am out. MOAR VARIETY on hand = never having to buy a drink again.
YAY!
i’m-not-worthy-i’m-not-worthy!
yes i have one for greens etc and one for blacks and intense herbals.
i heard that eventually the tea tannins or whatever does tend to make them taste a little off in the mug? but personally, i just thought it was a great excuse to buy more than one :)
I could see it. My teal one has some tea stain, and the rubber is looking a little ick. So I’ll just treasure my purple one and hope the teal one doesn’t get jealous.
The purple one rattles a little bit. Do any of yours? Strange! But it works fine…
I’m all for excuses. I think I bought this because of you and Kittena getting me all excited. I just WANTED MOAR. So thanks for converting me.
Also important!
We picked up the Tide of Iron board game. It’s a miniatures war game for 2-4 people. It looks like it’d be a lot of fun, and not nearly as intense as Axis&Allies (which I’ve never actually finished).
Neither of my Timolinos rattle (I can’t think of what would?) But the cream-coloured one “works” better than the black, as in, it keeps the tea noticeable hotter for longer. And yes, I’d recommend reserving the new mug for lighter teas. Flavour carryover from a strongly flavoured tea to a nice light one is unpleasant, at best.
I’ll post here, too. Denture tablets! Unscented (usually store brand) ones! Might take a few goes, but wow, do they ever work. They uncoffee’d my old Contigo.
SUPER mapley! The little tin survived the post okay?
It did! It’s so cute too!
(I just lost my entire stitch thing again. Arrrgh. More tea to the rescue?)
Fiber arts are an intense past-time >:( tea is prob a good choice.
Aren’t they ADORABLE? Are they the same minis you have?
No, these are: http://www.davidstea.com/tiny-tins <3
They swapped out some of the tea since I got mine, but I think it’s for the best.
