This is the last of my sample and it’s still super bitter. Not sure what I did to make it so creamy and wondeful the first time, but I guess I’ll have to knock my rating down a little because it’s so inconsistent for me. :|

I would try it again though. Because when it works, it REALLY WORKS.

Preparation

Fjellrev

Maybe it was having a bad day.

Kittenna

Hmm. I feel like I need to try it again too, now, and see if I can make it tasty.

TeaLady441

Haha. Well I wish you good luck! :D

drank Orange Blossom by DAVIDsTEA
1598 tasting notes

I bought this because the unicorn made me:https://twitter.com/DAVIDsTEA/status/311910727109713923/photo/1

I had that in my head all day, and when I went to the store I grabbed it, along with the mittful of clearance tea I bought on impulse. I can definitely taste the rooibos, but it doesn’t bother me like it does others. It also tastes like orange and vanilla and I probably need to make this iced and then FREEZE IT for fake CREAMSICLES in the summer. OH MAN I AM A GENIUS.

(Except I’m sure everyone else has already tried that. :P)

Anyway, this is a pretty nice herbal. Even with the rooibos aftertaste. People say they taste ‘bubblegum’ but I haven’t encountered that yet.

oh I bet I could even give this to the baby that’ll be great can’t wait for summer

OH, and speaking of being a genius, I figured out that $20 gets me 8 packs of tea, instead of 1.5 tins. I may end up with so many little DavidsTea pouches now, and samples sizes. I just don’t seem to have many regular teas that I drink daily – I’m always rotating to try new stuff. This will probably keep things fresher, and help me achieve sipdowns.

Preparation

Sil

totally! haha i hate buying 1oz now even if i really love the tea.

Shmiracles

uh oh i just realized i left this cold brewing in my fridge from last night…. is it still drinkable if i cold brew tea for 24 hrs?
ALSO you ARE a GENIUS!!

Sil

shmiracles – i cold brew things for days haha

Shmiracles

hah whew! well in that case, the orange blossom will be a potent brew and will be drank up enthusiastically!! :)

Alysha

Mmm tea popsicles! I’m so trying that!

I made this again today and it was too bitter. What went wrong? Maybe I used a lower temperature yesterday? :| Will try again.

Kittenna

Too much tea, maybe? I used about 1.5 tsp for 8 oz., used pretty much boiling water and steeped 1.5 min. It was too bitter, so I’ll be trying a 2 min infusion next time… what were you trying?

TeaLady441

Perhaps? I’m certain I didn’t use boiling water yesterday and I know I did today. Both times I steeped for 3 minutes. I’ll knock it down to 2.5 next time!

I totally meant to go to DavidsTea for Pom Power but before I made it out, I’d spent $20 and walked out with 7 other teas. I am so bad when it comes to deals.

The moral of this: GUYS! IF YOU WANT DT’s WINTER TEAS GET THEM NOW: 2- 25g bags for $5!

Really this was a terrible idea. I can’t even remember how excited I was about banana dream pie, and I bought two pouches. And do I really need more Cookie Dough?

When my bf saw my large blue bag he just asked, “So, how many teas are you at now?” Bahaha. He rocks.

Kittenna

Haha, good thing I didn’t like any of them enough to stock up :)

TeaLady441

I ended up buying a tin of the Cocomint Cream, but the rest weren’t as “necessary”. And if I have buyer’s remorse about these, maybe I can just offer them up as swaps?

Shmiracles

cocomint! yes!
idk why david’s bothers to have a ‘last chance’ section on their website if they are just gonna tease me with all of them being ‘out of stock’. pout.

I tried it again but I’ll pass. It tastes so much like dirt I can feel the grit in my teeth. I steeped it three times and sipped each to be sure.

Oh well. There’s plenty of tea out there.

Sil

Embrace the grit!

My first Irish Cream! After smelling it I was pretty eager to give it a try. It’s not really an afternoon tea though – it’d be better suited as “slap-me-in-the-face-to-wake-me-up morning tea”.

I love how strong the aroma is. Malty, and creamy. When I sip it, I find it to be a little astringent, but not undrinkably so (thankfully because I can be a wimp that way). Mostly I’m getting astringent malt in each sip, with a creamy finish and some earthy notes.

I would never have bought this on my own (although I shouldn’t really let $9 shipping deter me as that’s starting to be the standard with the new US rates too) so I’m happy I was given this. I need teas to be dropped in my lap otherwise I might miss out on something wonderful.

the next time i head to ottawa (i’ll likely post something in my tasting notes) feel free to bug me about an order. Id be happy to split an order with you and mail yours out to you to save on shipping/quantity of tea. My parents are still in Ottawa so i should get out there at least twice a year…though they’d prefer every bloody weekend haha

Kittenna

Agreed – definitely more of a morning tea! I enjoyed it though, in spite of the astringency. Hoping that knocking off 30s helps.

TeaLady441

Thanks for the offer! If I have any tea monies available I will definitely consider it.

I think that if I moved to Toronto it would be a awesome (terrible) thing because I could combine for more orders and arrange swaps. Seems like there are a lot of you guys out that way. :P

Sil

please move to toronto! we need more friends to split orders with hahaha. It’s a bit of good and bad. we place a few more orders than we might individualls but we spend less overall and don’t often have to buy 50g/2oz to ourselves. so i know at least i really love basically getting to have lots and lots of samples!

TeaLady441

Haha. Good to know! I’ll be sure to let you guys know when we know we have to move. Tea people is one of the benefits to such a big (for me) move.

Wow! This is so good! I just received this today in my FIRST Amoda subscription box. (And as such, I’m sorry if I am supposed to wait a few days to review it for those expecting to be surprised? I’ve never done this before.)

Anyway, as I mentioned earlier, I’m not so big on fruity teas, or I didn’t think I was, but I NEED TO RETHINK THIS IDEA. I used about half my sample to cold steep it in the fridge for a few hours, and now that I sip it I am blown away.

It’s very delicately fruity and the cherry and kiwi are balanced quite nicely. If it’s not too pricey, I think I’d like to stock up on this – either ordering from Amoda, or diret from Tiesta.

Looking back at it, maybe $15/mo for 60g of tea isn’t THAT GREAT of a deal, but if it exposes me to high quality tea (and surprise tea!) I can justify it that way. :D

Preparation
Iced
Fjellrev

Yeah, the subscription is a little steep for me but they seem to pick really interesting ones!

Courtney

I’ve actually never tried a cherry tea for fear of getting a fake taste, but I love kiwi and fruity teas. Perhaps I’ll give this one a shot.

TeaLady441

:P I didn’t really work the math out that well when I signed up. Or, when I did I factored in the ‘free’ shipping – if I ordered any of those teas from the US I’d probably pay $10 shipping anyway. I signed up for 4 months just to give it a shot. It is pretty exciting to have mystery tea arrive!

And as far as I can tell it doesn’t taste like fake cherry!

Kittenna

NOOOOO you spoiled it for me!!!!

(However… I’m now pretty excited! My box had better arrive tomorrow!)

Kittenna

Also, I figured the cost was worth it to try random new teas :)

TeaLady441

:p Alright, next time I’ll wait a week before I say anything!! At least the other two are still secret. /0\

Kittenna

Ahaha, no worries. Is there hibiscus in this one? The ingredients on the Amoda site appear to indicate that there isn’t…?!

On the downside, I’m hoping this isn’t essentially the same tea as the cherry kiwi coconut fruit tea I have from Mahamosa, and the two fruits and a nut I have from Caraway (which are essentially the same tea).

TeaLady441

No hibiscus! (I dislike it too). Hopefully it’s different enough. I checked and these are the ingredients: Kiwi bits, cherries, apple bits, raisins, carrot bits, ginger bits.

Kittenna

Can you taste the ginger? I don’t recall there being ginger in the other blends, and I’m pretty sure there was coconut. Fingers crossed!

Btw, feel free to log the other teas. Maybe don’t add the bit about them being from the Amoda box, though :D I shouldn’t be on here a great deal in the next while, and probably wouldn’t have twigged at all except that you mentioned it! (Not that I care a great deal about being surprised, anyhow).

TeaLady441

I get a bit of the ginger at the end of the sip!

And thanks for the suggestions. That’s probably work fine, or I could just wait a few days for your box to arrive!

Kittenna

Ok, now that I’ve received my box, I desperately want to write about my teas + commentary, haha. Do you think it would spoil it for anyone else?!

TeaLady441

I don’t know? I tried looking up the previous Amoda teas to see if people I knew had reviewed them and didn’t see anything, but then I missed you. :P So that was a detectivefail.

I don’t know how many subscribers they actually have on Steepster, but I’d like to know what you think!

Kittenna

I think we might be the only two on here. Sil isn’t currently subscribed. I got the 4 months as well, and this is my first box :P This situation could have very easily been reversed! I just brewed up all three, so am probably going to write about them all shortly, haha. It’s irresistible!

TeaLady441

That’s great! Guess I should brew one of my new ones as well!

Also, I’m happy yours showed up so soon. I’m in the same city as Amoda, so I thought you’d have to wait 2-3 days after me!

I didn’t expect to even get this box because I signed up a few days after the deadline. Man, am I happy I didn’t have to wait until April like I thought.

12g is not enough!

I made this, did baby things for a bit, then came back to it and forgot what it was. I knew it was sweetly delicious and very fruity.
Then I recognized the pomegranate and remembered what this was. It resteeped tolerably well too.

I didn’t think I was big on fruity teas, but I love this! Will nerd to get more at some point, as well as try it iced.

Before I realised it, my cup was empty! That’s a pretty good sign that this is a good tea.

I keep forgetting that “plain” black teas are amazing in their own right. I bought this tea a few months ago and never tried it because, oh it’s just ceylon no big deal blah blah blah. I should never listen to my brain. This tea is GREAT. Will do a proper review next time.

I was afraid to make this for the longest time because I knew it was fancy, and I was wigged out by the 3-5 second steep recommendation for my gaiwan and had to look it up because that sounds too short. But as others have pointed out, it’s too good to let waste away in my cupboard! (and thanks CrowKettle for surprising me with the sample!)

First steep: very light and fancy. Floral and refreshing.

Second steep: Still lightly floral, but with a hint of cocoa!

Third steep: it’s turning a nice orange now I’m getting lots of cocoa and malty notes. I can see why people enjoy this tea so much.

After, I steeped it three more times, and then used the last of my sample to brew it Western Style and resteeped that. I don’t know that I have ever dedicated one day to one tea like that before but it was wonderful. On to the shopping list with this one!

Crowkettle

Yay! Glad you had a enjoyable session with this tea! :)
