drank Coconut Oolong by DAVIDsTEA

The first time I tried this tea, I was a little overwhelmed by the coconut. It’s very powerful! Steepsterites seemed to like the second steep, so I tried it this afternoon and I agree. The coconut is toned down, definitely present, but there is a buttery creaminess that I like a lot. Saved the first steep to try it iced. We’ll see how that goes!!

So I’ve tried this twice now, and I don’t know… not a big fan. I definitely got some good whiffs of dark chocolate from the aroma, but it has a funny taste to it. The chocolate is definitely there, but not the taste of chocolate I wanted. A little artificial tasting, really. Bummer.

Now this one was interesting! The dry leaves smelled nutty and sweet. Once steeped, it honestly smelled like spinach! I thought, “uh oh, that’s weird.” Tasted it without any additions and I could tell the pistachio was there, but I still smelled spinach. So, I added some sugar and a dash of soy milk. Bam! There it is! Pistachio ice cream! Still smells a bit like spinach, but it tastes true to its name. :) it is a very silky smooth tea, and I will enjoy the rest I have, but I’m not sure I’m in love, at least not yet.

Fjellrev

Interesting that you get spinach! I’ve only tried it once at a tea fest, so it was naked, and luckily I didn’t get that. But soy milk sounds like it would taste great with this.

I really don’t know what my problem is with this one. I tried it Friday, but couldn’t trust my judgement because of a massive headache, so I tried it again this morning and….meh. I love dessert teas, but this one isn’t doing it for me. It has a fake-y sweetness that I don’t care for….maybe because of the marshmallow?

Fjellrev

That’s too bad. I know what you mean by the fake-y sweetness. I get that with Pineapple Upside Down Cake.

Perfect first tea of the morning. A solid black tea with a hint of blackberry. Exactly what I wanted. This one’s a keeper!

Oh, this is good. REAL good. I might be in love. This might be my new favorite. This is the first tea I’ve tried from Butiki, and I can totally tell that it’s much higher quality than other teas I’ve had. It’s so natural. No fake flavor here! The dry leaf smells so good, maple-y, nutty, and woodsy. I waited very impatiently for it to steep the recommended 4 minutes, and then cool for a minute or two. It tastes exactly as it should. I get the maple and pecan, and it’s naturally sweet on its own. I didn’t feel like this needed any additions, but I did add a tiny bit of sugar, which amped up the sweetness even more. I actually felt like my sugar was so not worthy of this tea…note to self: must invest in higher quality sugar! This tea would probably be awesome for afternoon tea! It is so nice to branch out from my usual teas (flavored blacks). And the flavor is so unique. I don’t have anything like this. My favorite part is that is seems so natural, like the tea leaves naturally taste like maple pecan. Stacy, you are amazing!

I agree, this one is fantastic!

So I’m a little behind on tealogs, because I had a bunch of new Della Terra Teas yesterday, but I don’t want to write reviews of them yet, because I think my taste buds were off due to a massive headache that progressively got worse until I took some Advil when I got home from work. I did get to use my cute elephant mug, though, and I received my first Butiki order, so not a bad day!

I had this tea again this morning, because it was one of my first favorites from DavidsTea, and I’ve been seeing some less than stellar reviews on here lately. I still really like it. I agree with some of the reviewers that the cinnamon is more prominent than the chocolate, and that it can turn out weak if you don’t steep enough leaf, but I think you just have to experiment with it and find the right specifications. I steep about 2tsp for 5 minutes and add milk and sugar. I still think it tastes like chocolate cinnamon loaf from Starbucks! Yum!

Maybe I will try a bit more leaf next time, and a slightly longer steeping time. I should like this one more than I did!

Had this in a “to go” cup on my way out of DavidsTea today (see previous tealog on Ceylon star for my fabulous experience!) It was good, but I couldn’t tell if I was tasting the mango or the agave sweetener, and I wished I had skipped the sweetener so I could really taste the tea. It was very light tasting, and I even left the teabag in the cup the whole time I was drinking it and it didn’t get bitter. Might have to get some of this one just to see how it is without the sweetener, but it was good with it!

In anticipation of a trip to DavidsTea today during lunch, I finished off my little bag of this one. Needless to say, I bought a whole tin of it later!! I LOVE this tea!! I’ve decided that once I LOVE a tea, that I will honor it by buying a whole tin! :) YUM!

On to my trip to DavidsTea. I had SO MUCH FUN! Probably too much fun for my own good. I had decided I wanted the new elephant perfect tea mug and the purple timolino, so I got them! Yay!! I also bought 1oz. bags of copabanana and coconut oolong to try! Btw, this is on top of the 10 new teas I recently ordered! AND the woman at the store was so nice! She said I bought so much stuff (and stuff she would buy for herself), and then she offered me a cup of tea to go, on the house! AWESOME! I was gushing with happiness!! Yay for great lunch breaks and more tea than fits in my cupboard….time to find a bigger cupboard!!

Alysha

I’m going there tomorrow and now I’m even more excited…and scared (for my wallet)! haha

Fjellrev

Aww, sometimes you just really need to treat yourself.

Tealizzy

Ya, it was fun! I’m bringing my elephant mug to work today…gonna be so stylish! Ha!

drank Green and Fruity by DAVIDsTEA

So, this was the last tea I had today, and it’s a sipdown! Before this one, I had tried the new hazelnut macchiato from Starbucks (GASP! Coffee? Yes, and it wasn’t that great), oatmeal raisin cookie and s’mores from Della Terra Teas, and toasted walnut from DavidsTea. Nothing new to say on those, but I enjoyed them. Anyway, on green and fruity, I have to say I probably won’t buy more of it. It is very sweet and tropical papaya tasting, but I feel kind of meh about it. In sum, I enjoyed the experience, but it’s over now. On to new teas!

Profile

Bio

Another profile facelift! My tastes have changed a lot from when I first discovered loose leaf tea.

I can trace my tea journey back to October 2012, when I discovered DavidsTea. Before that, I had the occasional cup and enjoyed high tea at An Afternoon to Remember, which has since closed.

I went through a period of wanting to try all the teas, and was really into flavored teas, especially dessert blacks, but my tastes have substantially changed over time.

I still enjoy the occasional flavored black or rooibos, but I’m more into unflavored black teas right now and recently, puerh. Chinese black teas are amazing…with their notes of chocolate or sweet potato, who needs a flavored tea? I had a much steeper learning curve when it came to puerh. I used to dump out cups of puerh for tasting like leather. Now, I am really enjoying them. I think it took finding good quality puerh and steeping them gong fu style to really enjoy them.

I also, on occasion, enjoy a good oolong, white, or green tea.

Favorite tea companies right now include: Mandala, Teavivre, Butiki, Golden Moon, Lupicia, and DavidsTea (for teaware mostly).

Just a note: I don’t rate my teas numerically because my iPad doesn’t like the scroll bar. Maybe someday that will change…hint hint, steepster! ;)

P.S. My profile picture is of one of my 2 cats, Holly, who is a little princess but very photogenic, and she loves boxes, including those that bring me tea! :)
